News: Third-year linebacker Greg Jones and second-year running back Richard Murphy were waived by the Jaguars on Monday.
Analysis: Neither player was expected to light the world on fire statistically. Keep 'em off rosters.
News: The Jaguars placed linebacker Greg K. Jones on season-ending injured reserve Monday with a fractured leg. Jones appeared in six games this season after signing with Jacksonville in mid-November and registered just four tackles.
Analysis: Jones was released by the Giants at the beginning of the season after appearing in all 16 games with New York last year. The 24-year-old had 31 tackles in his rookie campaign, but will look to get healthy for 2013. Leave him untouched in all Fantasy formats.
News: The Jaguars signed linebacker Greg Jones Monday.
Analysis: Jones will provide depth at linebacker for Jacksonville, but he can be ignored in Fantasy at this time.
News: The Giants continued trimming their roster Friday in preparation for the regular season and released the following players: linebackers Greg Jones and Jake Muasau; defensive linemen Marcus Thomas and Matt Broha; wide receivers Dan DePalma and Isaiah Stanback; and tight end Larry Donnell.
Analysis: Some of these players were able to make an early impression in training camp and survive the first round of cuts. However, neither of them were ultimately expected to make a Fantasy impact this season and should be left on waivers at this point.
News: Giants rookie MLB Greg Jones has now jumped from the third-team defense to a starting role in just a few days. MLB Phillip Dillard was cut on Saturday, which elevated Jones to the second-team defense, and now that MLB Jonathan Goff (knee) is likely done for the season, Jones will likely get the nod on Sunday against the Redskins. The Giants could also bring in a veteran linebacker while easing Jones into the starting lineup.
Analysis: This is not how the Giants wanted to start Jones' career. They were hoping to ease him into life as an NFL linebacker, but now injuries have likely forced the rookie from Michigan State to play a bigger role. Jones was a standout linebacker in the Big Ten. If he ends up getting regular reps at MLB, then the chance for Jones to make a lot of plays is there. But leave him on waivers in IDP leagues until we see how this plays out.
News: The Giants spent three picks in Round 6 in April's draft on defenders: Michigan State LB Greg Jones, Iowa safety Tyler Sash and USF linebacker Jacquian Williams.
Analysis: All three of these guys aren't candidates to play much in 2011, but there is some upside with Jones. He could be a starter in a few years and could be productive as a mega-tackler in the Antonio Pierce mold. We'd consider Jones with a late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a late choice in rookie-only drafts.
