Nick Toon stating his case

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/28/2014) In his battle with Joe Morgan and Robert Meachem for two roster spots, Saints receiver Nick Toon is making a strong early impression, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

"He's healthy. He's really running well. It was tough last year with the numbers of getting him into the rotation," coach Sean Payton told the paper. "This year I definitely see him as someone who competes and factors in for not only playing time, but for touches. He has done well these first few days."

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/5/2014) Saints receiver Nick Toon looked good in OTA workouts recently. According to ESPN, the Saints are still high on Toon and like his potential even though he struggled last year and didn't play during his rookie season.

Toon had four catches for 68 yards last year.

Mickey Loomis sticks up for Nick Toon

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/22/2014) Saints second-year receiver Nick Toon was usually inactive the second half of the season, but general manager Mickey Loomis said the organization is not down on him. "The only thing holding Nick back is the number of opportunities," Loomis said, per ESPN.com. "He'll get those going forward."

Noon dropped a bomb in the Week 9 loss at the Jets and was rarely seen after that. He finished the season with four catches for 68 yards. Signed cheaply for the next two seasons, Toon could play more if the Saints part ways with veteran Lance Moore.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Saints' role players hardly factor Week 9

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/3/2013) Saints fullback Jed Collins, tight end Josh Hill, wide receiver Nick Toon and tight end Benjamin Watson were hardly factors on the stat sheet during a 26-20 loss Week 9 at N.Y. Jets.

Collins had one carry for 7 yards, while Hill had one carry for minus-8 yards. Toon was targeted four times and had no catches. Watson, Collins and Hill all were targeted once but had no receptions.

Toon had the best chance to make an impact Week 9, but he couldn't haul in a pass that would have likely resulted in a 51-yard touchdown in the first half.

The Saints are back in action Week 10 vs. Dallas.

Toon will take on the Patriots Week 6.

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

The Saints will open the season at home against Atlanta in Week 1, and coach Sean Payton said after the Dolphins game he expects Toon to be fine.

"They did a quick scan, and I think that came back positive," Payton said. "He had a little blood in his mouth. They just wanted to make sure it was clear."

Toon is the No. 4 receiver for the Saints behind Marques Colston, Lance Moore and Kenny Stills.

Nick Toon stepping up in preseason

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/17/2013) Saints wide receiver Nick Toon was in the starting lineup for Friday's preseason game against the Raiders, and he showed off his downfield skills.

Toon, who is battling for a spot as the No. 3 or 4 receiver in the preseason, brought in just one reception, but it went for a game-high 56 yards. He was targeted twice in the passing game.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune speculated during the game that Toon looks like a lock for the No. 4 spot, given his playing time and production in the preseason.

Joe Morgan getting second opinion on injured knee

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(8/6/2013) Saints receiver Joe Morgan will seek a second opinion on his injured knee, coach Sean Payton said Monday per the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Morgan hurt himself during the team's scrimmage last saturday but Payton is mum on the extent of the injury.

The injury prompted the Saints to sign veteran receiver Steve Breaston. Second-year receiver Nick Toon, rookie Kenny Stills and a couple of other low-end receivers could also get looks as the No. 3 receiver while Morgan is sidelined.

At this point there's no telling if Morgan will be ready for the start of the season.

Toon plays well at camp

(6/10/2013) After missing his rookie season after foot surgery, Saints receiver Nick Toon looked at ease on the field, hauling in passes on mid- and deep routes according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Saints like Toon

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4/12/2013) The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that the Saints have high expectations for second-year receiver Nick Toon, who missed his rookie season with foot surgery. Toon, who spent most of the offseason working out back at Wisconsin, could play a key role for a Saints team that hasn't re-signed veteran receiver Devery Henderson to this point. He could be a third or fourth receiver, along with Joe Morgan, depending on what other moves the Saints make at the receiver position in the draft or free agency. "We expected a big guy, a big receiver who was polished, which he is. He had a great pedigree (the son of former NFL receiver Al Toon), came from a great program, was well-coached at Wisconsin. And he just had a medical issue he had to overcome," general manager Mickey Loomis said. "So we liked everything we saw, yet we haven't seen enough yet. But he's smart, we know that. A lot of physical ability, we know that. So all the signs, all the flags were positive. And everything we thought from him coming out of Wisconsin was confirmed or better so far. But he has a lot to prove yet."
