Rams reverse course, bench Austin Davis for Shaun Hill

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/12/2014) Rams coach Jeff Fisher, who on Monday said he was sticking with Austin Davis at quarterback, changed his mind and will start Shaun Hill against the Broncos, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Davis committed turnovers on three straight fourth-quarter possessions in the Week 10 loss at Arizona, and he's thrown four pick-sixes in eight starts.

Hill completed 8 of 13 passes for 81 yards with an interception in the season opener before injuring his thigh and getting replaced by Davis. Fisher said he decided to "go with experience" with Hill, a 10-year vet, and told the team at a meeting Wednesday morning, the report said.

Rams sticking with QB Austin Davis

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/10/2014) Rams coach Jeff Fisher said quarterback Austin Davis will start Week 11 against the Broncos despite committing turnovers on three consecutive fourth-quarter possessions Sunday, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The last two were returned for touchdowns.

Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson intercepted Davis and scored from 30 yards out, then corner Antonio Cromartie picked up Davis' fumble and returned it 14 yards for a touchdown.

Davis has accounted for 12 touchdowns and 12 turnovers this season. Shaun Hill will continue to be his backup.

Rams QB Austin Davis throws one touchdown Week 10

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11/9/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis managed one touchdown Week 10 against the Cardinals.

Davis completed 17 of 30 passes for 216 yards and a score during the contest. He was constantly under pressure, tossing two interceptions, losing a fumble and getting sacked six times. Davis really melted down in the fourth quarter. He threw both picks while attempting to lead a comeback. The second pick was returned for a touchdown by Patrick Peterson.

Davis will take on the Broncos Week 11.

Rams QB Austin Davis held to 105 pass yards in Week 9 win

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11/2/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis completed 13 of his 24 pass attempts for just 105 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions Sunday, adding nine rushing yards on two carries in his team's 13-10 road win over the 49ers in Week 9.

Davis couldn't get anything going through the air, with his only completed pass of more than 20 yards going to Kenny Britt on a 21-yard touchdown where the quarterback completed a short pass and watched Britt run into the end zone from more than 15 yards out.

Davis hasn't topped 160 passing yards in any of his last three games, yet the Rams have managed to go 2-1 during that stretch. He'll face another tough test in Week 10 when the Rams head to Arizona to face the division-leading Cardinals.

Austin Davis shows his true colors

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/28/2014) Remember when Rams quarterback Austin Davis was looking like a sneaky pickup in Fantasy? With back-to-back sub-200 yard games, he's back to performing like a backup thrust into a starting role, as I mentioned in my latest post to the Fantasy Baseball Today blog. Oh, and now he's without his best wide receiver, Brian Quick, for the season. It's really quite sad.

Granted, he hasn't had the most favorable matchups to work with the last few weeks. The decline actually began against the 49ers in Week 6, but then, they're the eighth-best team against the pass. The Seahawks, regardless of where they rank, are still the Seahawks, and the Chiefs, Davis' Week 8 opponent, are actually No. 1 against the pass.

But clearly, you're scraping the bottom of the barrel if you turn to Davis in Fantasy. He is, in fact, a backup quarterback for a team whose starter left something to be desired himself. And hey, he's facing the 49ers again in Week 9 -- this time on the road -- so we should have a pretty good idea how that'll go.

Rams QB Austin Davis held to less than 200 yards again

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/26/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis threw one touchdown and one interception in a 34-7 loss Week 8 at Kansas City. He completed 15 of 25 passes for 160 yards, while rushing for 1 yard on one carry.

Davis got off to a quick start, as he finished the team's opening drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Lance Kendricks. However, it would be downhill the rest of the way for Davis, who has thrown just one touchdown in two of his last three games. He has been held to less than 200 passing yards in two straight games.

The Rams are back in action Week 9 at San Francisco.

Austin Davis eliminates mistakes in Week 7 win

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/19/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis, who had committed five turnovers in his three previous games, took care of the ball and was highly efficient in the Week 7 win over the Seahawks. Davis completed 18 of 21 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers.

Davis completed a career-high 85.7 percent of his throws, finding running back Benny Cunningham for a 5-yard touchdown in the first quarter and tight end Lance Kendricks for a 4-yard score in the fourth.

Davis visits the Chiefs in Week 8.

Austin Davis throws another pick-six in MNF loss

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/14/2014) Monday Night Football was a tale of two halves for Rams quarterback Austin Davis. He hit 11 of 14 throws for 137 yards and a touchdown in the first half, then looked lost after halftime.

Davis finished 21 of 42 for 236 yards with one score and one interception. With the Rams going for a tying touchdown in the final minute, Davis threw late and cornerback Dontae Johnson returned the pass 20 yards for a touchdown. It was Davis' second pick-six in the last three games.

Davis took a big step back after recording two straight games with 300-plus passing yards and three touchdowns. He was sacked five times and appeared skittish in the pocket.

Davis plays the Seahawks in Week 7.

Now not the time to start Austin Davis

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/9/2014) It's not exactly a Kurt Warner sequel, but the Rams may have found a keeper in Austin Davis, who only came about the job because of a season-ending injury to Sam Bradford. He's thrown for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns in back-to-back games and looked good doing it.

But those were against Dallas, one of last year's worst teams against the pass, and Philadelphia, one of this year's. This week, the Rams host the 49ers, who are on the other end of the spectrum. Not only are they fourth against the pass, allowing 205.6 yards per game, but they've allowed the third-fewest Fantasy points per game to quarterbacks (tying with the Patriots and Packers).

Some of the quarterbacks they've stifled include Tony Romo and Nick Foles. As good as Davis has been, he's not quite as good as them.

Which doesn't mean you can't add him off waivers. If you need a backup quarterback, he should be a good one. But this week isn't the time to get cute with him.

Austin Davis, Carson Palmer the best of a bad waiver-wire crop

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/7/2014) Jamey Eisenberg isn't thrilled about the crop of quarterbacks available for pickup ahead of Week 6, as he notes in his Waiver-Wire column Tuesday.

Eisenberg considers Rams quarterback Austin Davis the best of the bunch for Week 6's matchup against the 49ers, coming off consecutive three-touchdown, 300-yard games. It is not a great matchup for Davis, considering the 49ers have allowed just 20 Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks over the last two games, but Davis is playing well enough that he may be able to overcome that.

If you don't need a quarterback too badly for this week, Carson Palmer remains a fine long-term option, and is still available in 35 percent of leagues. Palmer might still be forced to sit out Week 6 as he continues to deal with a shoulder nerve issue, but the team appears optimistic about his chances for returning before long.

Austin Davis does it again

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/5/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis showed his performance in Week 3 was no fluke, as he tossed three more touchdowns in Week 5 against the Eagles.

Davis lit into a subpar Eagles pass defense, finishing with 32 Fantasy points on 375 passing yards and three touchdowns. This coming after he earned the starting job with another three-touchdown performance against the Cowboys. And, lest you write it off as Davis just taking advantage of poor defenses, only one quarterback has bested his Fantasy point total against the Eagles, while his game against the Cowboys remains the best so far.

Davis might be a flash in the pan, but it is hard to write off these kinds of performances coming on consecutive games. We'll get a real idea of how well Davis can play in Week 6, with the 49ers on the schedule; if he can produce against San Francisco, there might be something here.

Austin Davis tallies 375 passing yards, three TDs vs. Eagles

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10/5/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis went 29 of 49 for 375 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while adding 30 rushing yards on three carries Sunday, but the Rams still fell to the Eagles in Week 5, 34-28.

While Davis' final numbers were excellent, he also lost two fumbles on sacks, one of which was recovered in the end zone to put the Eagles ahead 27-7. After the Eagles added another touchdown, Davis led the team on a furious comeback that fell just short. He's managed six touchdowns and two interceptions while posting back-to-back 300-yard efforts. The Rams will host the 49ers on Monday night in Week 6.

Fisher: Austin Davis new starting QB for Rams

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/1/2014) Jeff Fisher has done a flip-flop after naming Shaun Hill the starting quarterback for the Rams in Week 4. He has now given the job full-time to Austin Davis. Fisher added that there will be no quick hook for Davis, per ESPN.

Davis has improved with every performance this season. He peaked in a 34-31 defeat in Week 3 to Detroit in which he completed 30 of 42 for 327 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Shaun Hill will start Week 5 if healthy

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/22/2014) Rams quarterback Shaun Hill will retake the starting job Week 5, after the team's bye, if he is fully healed from his thigh injury, coach Jeff Fisher said. Hill was active Week 3 but did not play as Austin Davis played his second straight game.

"We kept him up as the No. 2 because I felt like he could finish a game out of the shotgun," Fisher said of Hill. "But he's not ready to go under center yet."

Fisher reiterated that Hill "is our starter and Austin is our backup."

Davis completed 30 of 42 throws for 327 yards and three touchdowns in the loss to the Cowboys but threw two interceptions, including a pick-six.

Austin Davis racks up 327 yards, three TDs in Week 3 loss

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/21/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis completed 30 of his 42 pass attempts for 327 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in his team's 34-31 loss to the Cowboys in Week 3.

Davis played very well in the first three quarters, helping take the Rams to a 21-0 lead in the first half and mantaining a one-point lead heading into the fourth after the Rams defense started to struggle. However, the Cowboys took the lead in the fourth and picked off Davis for the first time in the game, returning the interception for a touchdown. After he threw his third touchdown of the day, Davis was unable to lead his team on a game-winning drive, throwing his second interception.

Davis, who drew the start despite former starter Shaun Hill being active Sunday, may have done enough to remain the starter heading into the team's Week 4 bye. The Rams face the Eagles in Week 5.

Austin Davis draws start over Shaun Hill in Week 3

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/21/2014) Though Rams quarterback Shaun Hill (thigh) is active for Sunday's clash with the Cowboys, Austin Davis has been announced as the team's starting quarterback for the game, ESPN reports.

Davis led the team to a victory against the Buccaneers in Week 2 and will get the chance to further establish himself as a viable starting quarterback in Week 3. Hill was listed as questionable on the team's final injury report but is one of only two quarterbacks active for the Rams Sunday.

Austin Davis expected to start in Week 3

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/21/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis is expected to start in the team's Week 3 game against the Cowboys, NFL.com reports.

Davis took almost all the first-team reps in practice this week and conducted the walkthrough with Shaun Hill still recovering from a quad injury. Davis went 22 of 29 for 235 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in a Week 2 win over the Buccaneers.

Shaun Hill officially questionable for Week 3

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/19/2014) Rams quarterback Shaun Hill was a limited participant for the third day in a row Friday, as he continues to work his way back from a thigh injury.

Hill is officially listed as questionable on the injury report for Week 3 against the Cowboys, after sitting out the team's last week as a result of the injury. If he cannot play Sunday, Austin Davis will get the start again.

Shaun Hill does some individual work

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/17/2014) Rams quarterback Shaun Hill (thigh) did some individual drills in Wednesday's practice, but Austin Davis took nearly all the reps in the team portion, reports ESPN.com. At this point it appears Davis will make his second straight start Sunday.

Shaun Hill not expected to practice Wednesday

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/17/2014) Rams quarterback Shaun Hill (thigh) probably won't practice Wednesday but might be able to do limited work Thursday, coach Jeff Fisher told ESPN.com. Fisher reiterated that if Hill is healthy, he'll start Sunday against the Cowboys.

However, the team could choose to hold out Hill because the Rams have a Week 4 bye and third-stringer Austin Davis played well in the Week 2 win at Tampa Bay.

Austin Davis throws for 235 yards in Week 2 win

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/14/2014) It's been 995 days since Rams quarterback Austin Davis started a football game. Because of a thigh injury to Shaun Hill, Davis earned his first career start in Week 2 at Tampa Bay.

Davis did a solid job of managing the game, leading his team to a 12-ply, 71-yard drive which resulted in a game-winning 38-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein to win the game. Davis didn't score or get picked off. He compiled for 235 yards through the air while completing 22 of 29 passes in a 19-17 victory. He was sacked twice and finished with a 99.1 passer rating.

The Rams will be back at home to host the Cowboys in Week 3. If Hill is unable to play, Davis will earn another start.

Austin Davis likely to start over Shaun Hill

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/14/2014) Rams third-stringer Austin Davis will likely receive the start Week 2 at Tampa Bay. Shaun Hill, who started last week, is dealing with a thigh injury and will likely serve as an emergency quarterback for St. Louis. He was ruled active for the game.

Shaun Hill doesn't practice, considered day-to-day

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/10/2014) Rams quarterback Shaun Hill (quad) did not practice Wednesday and is considered day-to-day, reports KSDK Channel 5 in St. Louis. If Hill can't play Sunday at Tampa Bay, Austin Davis likely would start.

Austin Davis throws for 192 yards in second half vs. Vikings

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/7/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis took over for an injured Shaun Hill at halftime Sunday and went 16 of 23 for 192 yards and an interception in his team's 34-6 loss to the Vikings in Week 1.

While Davis had an efficient performance in relief, his one interception was returned 81 yards for a touchdown. He did lead the team on two scoring drives, but both ended in field goals from at least 46 yards out. The team will know more about the status of Hill Monday, but Davis did enough in Week 1's loss to at least earn consideration for playing time in Week 2 against the Buccaneers.

Austin Davis in, Shaun Hill out with thigh issue to start second half

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/7/2014) Rams quarterback Austin Davis has taken over on offense to begin the second half.

Starter Shaun Hill went 8 for 13 for 81 yards and an interception in the first half as the Vikings entered the break up 13-0. The Rams announced that Hill is questionable to return with a thigh injury. Davis completed his first career regular-season pass to open the second half Sunday.
