Jaguars C Stefen Wisniewski plans to be ready by training camp

(4/21/2015) Despite undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder in January, Jaguars center Stefen Wisniewski said the rehab is going well and his goal is to be ready by training camp, the team announced.

Wisniewski was signed by the team to compete for a starting role along the interior of the offensive line.

(4/18/2015) The Jaguars announced the signing of free agent center Stefen Wisniewski on Saturday. 

Wisniewski reportedly signed a one-year contract for $2.5 million, per Jacksonville.com.

"We had the opportunity to spend time with Stefen earlier this month and remained in contact with him with the hopes of getting a deal done," GM David Caldwell said. "We are excited to get him on board before we officially start our offseason conditioning program next week. He gives us great position flexibility along our offensive line as he has started at both center and guard during his career. He has a familiarity with our offensive system and brings a lot of experience to our offensive line room."

(4/6/2015) Center Stefen Wisniewski is visiting with the Titans on Monday, per The Tennessean, as the veteran continues a free-agent tour that has already seen him meet with the Buccaneers, Patriots, Jets and Seahawks. 

Wisniewski has played his entire four-year career in Oakland, where he's made 61 starts. He was a second-round pick by the Raiders in 2011.

(4/2/2015) Center Stefen Wisniewski visited with the Jaguars on Wednesday, according to the Florida Times-Union. Wisniewski left the visit having not signed a contract.

“We’ll have more conversations about him, but right now, we’re in a holding period,” head coach Gus Bradley said Thursday during the Jaguars’ clinic for high school coaches.

Wisniewski, 26, has only missed three starts during his four-year career, all with the Raiders. He started all 16 games in 2014.

(4/1/2015) The Jaguars hosted free-agent center Stefen Wisniewski on a visit on Wednesday, according to a report from the Florida Times-Union.

Wisniewski also recently visited the Patriots, according to NFL.com, with both New England and Jacksonville in need of interior offensive linemen. Wisniewski spent the past four years with the Raiders, appearing in 61 games.

(3/30/2015) Center Stefen Wisniewski played part of last season with a torn labrum and had surgery on the injured shoulder during the offseason, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Wisniewski's recovery could be part of the reason that the free agent hasn't signed with a team yet, after his contract with the Raiders expired.

Wisniewski has visited the Seahawks and Buccaneers. The Rams, Chiefs and Bears are also reported to have interest in signing him.

The Seahawks opened a hole in the offensive line Tuesday when they shipped Max Unger and a first-round pick to the Saints in exchange for Jimmy Graham and a fourth-round pick. Wisniewski is one of the top remaining interior lineman left on the market.

Conte has ties with current Tampa Bay coach Lovie Smith. he played 29 games for the former Chicago coach from 2011-2012. Last season, registered 43 tackles and three interceptions in 12 starts.

Wiesniewski missed just three starts in his first four years with the Raiders, who were unable to come to terms on an extension with the center. He graded 22nd out of 41 centers in 2014, per Pro Football Focus.

Wisniewski, who made $938,000 in base salary last year, likely is looking for $3 million or more annually, the report said.

(10/25/2013) Raiders center Stefen Wisniewski appears ready to return to action from a right knee strain and play Sunday against Pittsburgh, per the Oakland Tribune. Wisniewski, who has been limited in practice this week, has missed the last two games.

Offensive coordinator Greg Olson did not downplay the importance of having Wisniewski back. "It's huge," he said. "He's such an important part of what's going on up front and making sure everybody is in the right place. It's a calming factor for me and everybody up front, and for the quarterback as well."

The return of a veteran presence could prove particularly valuable against the Steelers, who use a variety of zone blitzes.
