Colts dump LaVon Brazill, sign Aaron Burks

(7/11/2014) The Colts waived suspended wideout LaVon Brazill and signed receiver Aaron Burks, an undrafted free agent from Boise State. Brazill, 25, is suspended for at least a year for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Burks caught 18 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns for the Broncos last season, averaging 17.2 yards per catch.

(7/6/2014) Colts receiver Lavon Brazill was suspended without pay for at least one season for a repeat violation of the league's substance abuse policy, reports NFL Network. Brazill caught two touchdowns in the team's playoff loss at New England in January after making 12 catches in the 2013 regular season.

(1/12/2014) Colts wide receiver LaVon Brazill, who racked up 54 yards in his first playoff game, kept things rolling as he scored twice in Saturday's AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Patriots.

Brazill made a spectacular catch over a defender for a 38-yard touchdown with 4:43 left in the opening period. It was his first career postseason touchdown. He then came down with a 35-yard pass from Andrew Luck in the third quarter. He was targeted seven times and finished with two grabs for 73 yards and two touchdowns in a 43-22 defeat.

(1/4/2014) Colts wide receiver LaVon Brazill stepped up with a solid game Saturday, in a  45-44 win over the Chiefs in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Brazill hauled in four passes, topping his best performances from the regular season. He accounted for 53 yards on those six receptions, also a season high, while being targeted six times.

Brazill stepped up with Darrius Heyward-Bey limited by a hamstring injury. He could be needed yet again in next week's game, either against the Broncos or Patriots. 


Colts pass catchers do little Week 17

(12/29/2013) The Colts pass catchers didn't do much Week 17 against the Jaguars. 

Griff Whalen was the only player to catch a touchdown, scoring on a 7 yard pass. He finished the game with 32 yards. Tight end Coby Fleener had just one reception for 25 yards. Da'Rick Rodgers caught two passes for 20 yards. Stanley Havili also caught two balls, but had 18 yards. Weslye Saunders had 18 yards, but caught one ball. LaVon Brazill caught one bal for 11 yards. Tight end Jack Doyle had one caught for 2 yards.

Tashard Choice also had one catch for 5 yards. He also carried the ball five times for 18 yards. 


Minor contributors help Colts in Week 16

(12/22/2013) Notable Colts players who posted some numbers in Week 16 include fullback Stanley Havili (a carry for no yards, a catch for 1 yard), running back Tashard Choice (an 8-yard carry in garbage time), tight end Weslye Saunders (a 6-yard catch) and tight end Jack Doyle (a 6-yard catch). Receiver LaVon Brazill was targeted on a deep pass that bounced off his hands in the second half that could have gone for a touchdown. 

The Colts host the Jaguars in Week 17.

Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is active Sunday for Week 16 against the Chiefs, despite being listed on the injury report as questionable with a shoulder injury.

Additionally, wide receiver LaVon Brazill (foot) is also active and in uniform. He had been considered probable for the game.

(12/15/2013) Colts wide receiver LaVon Brazill, who broke out with two touchdowns Week 14 at the Bengals, is inactive for Week 15 against the Texans. He was limited in practice leading up to the game with a foot injury. The Colts listed him as questionable on Friday's injury report.

In addition to the two touchdowns last week, Brazill set a season high with 53 yards and equaled a season high with three catches.

(12/8/2013) Colts wide receiver LaVon Brazill caught three passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 42-28 loss to the Bengals. Brazill was targeted four times. 

Brazill's first touchdown came in the third quarter. He took a short pass from Andrew Luck, then ran through six defenders to score from 19 yards out. Brazill's second touchdown came on a beautifully-thrown 29-yard bullet pass from Andrew Luck in the fourth. 

Brazill has increased his yardage in each of the last three games, and has 12 targets in his last two. The Colts face the Texans in Week 15. 


Three Colts chip in to Week 13 victory

(12/1/2013) Benched running back Trent Richardson made a modest contribution Sunday to a win for the Colts over Tennessee. He managed 19 yards on five carries.

Wide receiver LaVon Brazill had his best game of the season with three 14-yard receptions for 42 yards. Fullback Stanley Havili added 29 yards on three catches.


Colts backup receivers do little against Arizona

(11/24/2013) Colts backup pass catchers Darrius Heyward-Bey, LaVon Brazill and Justice Cunningham were held in check Week 12 against the Cardinals.

Heyward-Bey played the biggest role. Though he only caught three passes for 22 yards, he managed to come down with a two-point conversion late in the game. Brazill actually finished with more yards, picking up 35 yards on three receptions. Cunningham caught just one pass for 4 yards. 

They'll take on the Titans Week 13.


Five Colts players contribute during Week 10 loss

(11/10/2013) Colts fullback Stanley Havili, running back Dan Herron, wide receiver Griff Whalen, wide receiver LaVon Brazill and wide receiver David Reed all made it onto the stat sheet during a 38-8 loss Week 10 vs. St. Louis.

Havili had one carry for 1 yard, while adding three catches for 25 yards.

Herron had one carry for no gain and one catch for 57 yards. In fact, Herron almost scored on his 57-yard catch-and-run, but he was pulled down at the 3-yard line late in the fourth quarter.

Whalen had three catches for 36 yards. His longest catch went 25 yards and he was targeted five times.

Brazill had one catch for 11 yards, despite five targets. Brazill was targeted multiple times in the end zone. He was targeted on a 53-yard pass from Andrew Luck in the first half, but the pass was too far in front of Brazill in the end zone. Brazill was targeted three times by quarterback Matt Hasselbeck when the Colts got down to the Rams' 3-yard line. The last target near the goal line, however, was intercepted.

Reed initially had a 4-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the play was reversed to a 2-yard catch after it was ruled Reed stepped out of bounds before scoring.

The Colts are back in action Week 11 at Tennessee.


Colts get offensive contributions

Brazill caught 11 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown in 2012 but is buried on the team's depth chart following the Colts' signing of Darrius Heyward-Bey this offseason.

He finished with just 11 receptions for 186 yards and one touchdown as a rookie. In an attempt to accelerate Brazill’s growth, the team moved him across the locker room next to veteran Reggie Wayne. “They want me to learn from the best,” Brazill said. “I don’t mind being down here with Reggie. He’s like a big brother to me."
