Bears list five players out on final Week 3 injury report

(9/20/2014) Five injured Bears players will miss Monday's game against the Jets, according to the team's final injury report Saturday: linebacker Shea McClellin (hand), defensive tackle Jeremiah Ratliff (concussion), cornerback Sherrick McManis (quad) and offensive linemen Matt Slauson (ankle) and Roberto Garza (ankle).

In addition, defensive end Trevor Scott (foot) has been listed as doubtful. On the positive side, defensive end Jared Allen (back), safety Chris Conte (shoulder) and wide receiver Josh Morgan (groin) are listed as probable to play Monday.


Bears DST comes up big

(9/15/2014) Overlooked after a poor Week 1 performance, the Bears DST came up big Sunday night at San Francisco. Chicago forced four turnovers by Colin Kaepernick, with rookie corner Kyle Fuller making two fourth-quarter interceptions.

Defensive end Jared Allen forced a fumble, safety Danny McCray recovering. Safety Chris Conte made his second interception of the season before leaving with a shoulder injury. Defensive end Willie Young led a strong pass rush with four sacks.

Riding a lot of momentum, the rejuvenated Bears DST visits the Jets on Monday Night Football in Week 3.

(9/7/2014) The Bears defense recorded one sack and one turnover in the team's 23-20 overtime loss to the Bills Sunday.

Safety Chris Conte stepped in front of a Bills receiver on Buffalo's first offensive drive of the second half, and the Bears were able to score a game-tying touchdown on the next possession. Free-agent addition Willie Young recorded the defense's only sack of the game in the first quarter. The Bears could have trouble containing a quality San Francisco offense in Week 2.

Safety Chris Conte was cleared from a concussion and was a full participant in practice for the second straight day. He's listed as probable for Week 1. Offensive lineman Brian De La Puente was another full participant in practice Friday and was deemed probable as well. Tony Fiammetta is questionable with a sore hamstring.

(9/1/2014) Bears safety Chris Conte will be the team's starting free safety in Sunday's season opener against the Bills, provided he's medically cleared to play, ESPN reports.

Conte has been locked in a position battle with rookie Brock Vereen, and despite suffering a concussion during the team's third preseason game, he's done enough to be named the starter. It wouldn't be surprising to see Vereen overtake Conte in the starting lineup, with the latter grading out as a below-average starter, according to ProFootballFocus.com, who particularly struggles in run support.

Conte took advantage of a sailing pass as he picked off Matthew Stafford in the third quarter. The interception led to three points for the Bears on the other side of the ball. He finished the game with three tackles (two solo) and three pass defended in a 21-19 defeat.

Conte picked off Ben Roethlisberger late in the fourth quarter to seal a convincing victory. He totaled a team-high eight tackles (six solo), one interception and two pass defenses in a 40-23 victory.
