Joe Haden: Contract talks 'all positive'

(4/4/2014) Browns top corner Joe Haden, who's entering the final year of his rookie deal, said talks with the team about an extension have been "all positive," reports NFL.com. Haden sounds committed to Cleveland despite the team's consistent losing since he arrived.

"I'm not just going to run away to go somewhere else," he told the website. "That's not what I'm about, that's not what I stand for. I want to be there when it changes because that city is ready for a winner. Some of the best fans in the league and I want to be there when we do start winning. We'll turn Cleveland out."

(2/12/2014) A source says the Browns and cornerback Joe Haden have begun talks on a contract extension. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports nothing is imminent and that the talks began the same day the team let go of CEO Joe Banner and general manager Mike Lombardi. 

NFL Network reported previously that re-signing Haden was a top priority for the new regime.

(2/12/2014) The Browns are expected to make re-signing cornerback Joe Haden a "top priority" according to NFL Network. The franchise is going through a transition in its front office but it shouldn't matter in Haden's case since he's considered one of the best players at his position. 

Haden had four interceptions and 20 passes defensed last season and has 13 interceptions and 67 passes defensed in four years. He enters 2014 in a contract year, meaning he'll be a free agent in the spring of 2015. 


Browns land two on All-Pro first team

(1/3/2014) The Browns have landed two first-teamers on the Associated Press All-Pro team despite their 4-12 record. Tackle Joe Thomas and wide receiver Josh Gordon both earned spots. Cornerback Joe Haden, safety T.J. Ward and center Alex Mack are all second-teamers.

Haden completely shut down A.J. Green in the game, holding him to just two receptions for 7 yards. He picked off a pair of passes, one of which he returned for a 29-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Haden has three interceptions on the season, all of which have come in the last two games.

Haden made a diving pick of a dying quail thrown into the wind by Joe Flacco in the second quarter. He added six tackles, including three solos, and two passes defensed.

(9/27/2013) Browns top cornerback Joe Haden has had mixed results covering Bengals stud wideout A.J. Green. Green has caught 11 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns in three head-to-head battles with Haden as the two prepare for a fourth Sunday in Cleveland.

Green expressed wonderment this week that Haden has never been selected to the Pro Bowl. His adversary spoke about the intensity of their competition.

"I'm not gonna just run along with him and try to let him jump over me," he told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "It's gonna be a really good, intense matchup. It's not a scared things at all. It's gonna be a battle."

Green exploded for seven catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns in their last meeting in October 2012.


Browns defenders stat in Week 2 loss

(9/16/2013) Browns cornerback Buster Skrine led the defense with a team-high nine tackles (seven solo) Week 2 at Baltimore. He was part of a defensive effort that shut out Baltimore in the first half, but the Ravens still emerged with a 14-6 win.

Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson had eight tackles (four solo), as did free safety Tashaun Gipson (four solo) and defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard (three solo). Sheard had 1/2 sack, as did defensive lineman Desmond Bryant, who finished with five tackles (one solo).

Browns safety T.J. Ward finished with four tackles (two solo) and cornerback Joe Haden, who spent most of the afternoon shadowing Ravens receiver Torrey Smity, had three solo tackles and one pass defense.
