Mike Pouncey wants to avoid starting season on PUP list

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/14/2014) Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, who is recovering from June hip surgery, said Thursday he prefers not to open the season on the PUP list, according to The Miami Herald. Pouncey added there's "no question" he believes he can be ready at some point in the first six games.

"We had a couple discussions about it," he said of the PUP possibility. "I’m just letting them make the decision. I hope I’m not on PUP, but it’s not up to me. I want to play."

Dolphins place Mike Pouncey, Knowshon Moreno on PUP list

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/25/2014) The Dolphins opened training camp Friday by placing center Mike Pouncey and running back Knowshon Moreno on the physically unable to perform list, reports ESPN.

Pouncey had major hip surgery this summer and reportedly could miss as much as eight weeks of the regular season. Moreno had a cleanup procedure on his knee and should return before the end of the preseason.

Both players are expected to eventually be key members of Miami's offense. Pouncey is arguably the Dolphins’ best offensive player. Moreno, who started last year for the Broncos, signed a one-year contract to compete with incumbent starting tailback Lamar Miller.

Mike Pouncey now expected to miss half the season

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/23/2014) Initial reports suggested Dolphins center Mike Pouncey might return from the torn labrum in his hip in late September. The Miami Herald reports that's unrealistic. A source tells the paper Pouncey likely will miss the season's first eight weeks, which covers seven games and a bye.

It's bad news for quarterback Ryan Tannehill and the entire offense.

Dolphins try to replace Mike Pouncey

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/24/2014) The Dolphins don't have many options to replace center Mike Pouncey, who is out for start of the season because of hip surgery, reports ESPN. He is expected to miss the next three to four months, which includes all of training camp, the preseason and the start of the regular season.

The report says the Dolphins have three options at this stage. They can go with undrafted second-year player Sam Brenner, who received second-team reps at center this offseason and filled in at guard last season for the suspended Richie Incognito. They can use versatile backup Nate Garner, who also played center last season in place of Pouncey for two games and could be the second in-house plan. The third option is to look for outside help via trade or free agency, which could be slim pickings at this stage of the offseason.

Whatever choice Miami makes, it's replacement plan won't be nearly as good as Pouncey. He is one of the top centers in the NFL and the drop off will be significant no matter who plays in Week 1.

(4/10/2014) Center Mike Pouncey is expected to see the Dolphins exercise their right to extend his contract for a fifth season later this spring, but he wants an extension even with the added year. The Miami Herald reports that any conversations about such an extension would involve the numbers center Alex Mack will get this spring. Though Pouncey might not command the $9 million per season that Mack should land, he could be close to that number, a lot to pay a center.

Report: Dolphins won't trade Mike Pouncey

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/18/2014) Dolphins center Mike Pouncey might face a suspension or a fine for his role in the harassment scandal involving Jonathan Martin but he won't leave the team. The Pro Bowl center, entering the last year of his deal, won't get dealt according to the Miami Herald.

Dolphins have work to do on the O-line

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/7/2014) The Dolphins are looking at a "total rebuild" on the offensive line, a person who interviewed for the team's general manager job told CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

Not only does the team need help at tackle and guard following the incident with Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito but they also need another bookend tackle as veterans Tyson Clabo and Bryant McKinnie are both free agents. On top of that, center Mike Pouncey is entering a contract year and might hold out.

The Dolphins, per La Canfora, are expected to have $32 million in cap space this offseason, but they'll need a lot of it to re-sign several members on the team.
