Report: Billy Winn tears hamstring

(7/26/2014) Browns defensive lineman Billy Winn has been placed on the non-football injury list. He has torn a hamstring, sources have indicated to ESPNCleveland.com.

Winn played in 11 games last season, recording 21 tackles and two sacks.


Billy Winn forces Week 15 fumble

(12/15/2013) Browns defensive end Billy Winn forced a fumble in Sunday's 38-31 loss to the Bears. The fumble -- the second Winn has forced this season -- was eventually returned for a touchdown by T.J. Ward.

(11/1/2013) The Browns are as healthy as they have been all season, as their Friday injury report reveals. They could field a 100 percent healthy team when they host Baltimore on Sunday.

Defensive end Billy Winn (quad) hasn't played since Week 3, but is listed as questionable, as is linebacker Quentin Groves (ankle).

The others are probable. They include defensive end Desmond Bryant (thumb), running backs Willis McGahee (ankle) and Chris Ogbonnaya (ribs), cornerback Chris Owens (finger) and linebacker Jabaal Sheard (wrist).

(10/27/2013) The  Browns defense is in pretty good shape as far as injuries go for Week 8 against the Chiefs Sunday. Of six players listed on the injury report, only defensive lineman Billy Winn (quadriceps) and linebacker Quentin Groves (ankle) are inactive.

Defensive back Chris Owens (finger), defensive lineman Armonty Bryant (shoulder) and linebackers Tank Carder (neck) and Brandon Magee (oblique) were all able to play through their injuries.

(10/18/2013) Only two Browns starters are on the injury report revealed on Friday - and both are probable for Sunday in Green Bay. They are running back Willis McGahee and Jabaal Sheard, both of whom have been nursing knee injuries.

Defensive end Billy Winn (quad) is again out, as is defensive back Josh Aubrey (ankle/knee). Linebacker Brandon Magee (oblique) is questionable while cornerback Chris Owens (finger) and running back Bobby Rainey (groin) are probable.

(10/13/2013) The continued inactivity of starting outside linebacker Jabaal Sheard (knee) highlights the injury report submitted by the Browns for the game Sunday against the visiting Lions. Defensive end Billy Winn (quad) is the only other injured inactive. Quentin Groves, who will help out at Sheard's spot, will play despite an ankle problem.

The healthy inactives are wide receiver Charles Johnson, offensive linemen Patrick Lewis, Martin Wallace and Garrett Gilkey and tight end Keavon Milton.


Browns defenders returning to health

(10/11/2013) Three critical players on the Browns front seven are getting healthier in time for the Week 6 game against visiting Detroit.

Outside linebacker Jabaal Sheard, who missed the last two games with a knee injury, has been upgraded to questionable with reports leaning toward him playing against the Lions. And fellow linebacker Quentin Groves (ankle) could also return after missing the last three games.

Meanwhile, defensive end Desmond Bryant, who left the Week 5 win over Buffalo with shortness of breath, has been deemed probable. Backup lineman Billy Winn (quad) has been ruled out.

(10/3/2013) The Browns inactives list for Week 5 against the Bills Thursday featured just two injured players who had not yet been ruled out for the game previously. Joining defensive lineman Billy Winn (quadriceps) on the inactives list were linebackers Quentin Groves (ankle) and Jabaal Sheard (knee).

The remainder of the list featured quarterback Jason Campbell, running back Fozzy Whittaker and offensive linemen Martin Wallace and Patrick Lewis.

(10/2/2013) The Browns are relatively healthy heading into their battle against the Bills on Thursday night. Only linebackers Jabaal Sheard (knee) and Quentin Groves (ankle) are listed as doubtful.

Defensive tackle John Hughes (knee) and right guard Shawn Lauvao (ankle) are questionable. Among the probables are offensive lineman Oniel Cousins (chest), placekicker Billy Cundiff (thigh), running back Chris Ogbonnaya (thigh) and quarterback Brandon Weeden (thumb).

Defensive end Bllly Winn (quad) has been ruled out.

(9/29/2013) The Browns released their inactives prior to Sunday's game against the Bengals in Week 4, and the list featured three players already ruled out by injury. Quarterback Brandon Weeden (thumb), defensive lineman Billy Winn (quadriceps) and linebacker Quentin Groves (ankle) were all unable to suit up, as expected. Linebacker Jabaal Sheard (knee) was also inactive for the game.

(9/25/2013) Browns defensive end Billy Winn filled in for starter Ahtyba Rubin when the latter was injured the first two weeks of the season. Now someone might have to take his reps Sunday against Cincinnati if he can't recover in time from a quad injury.

Winn, who recorded one of the team's six sacks Sunday in Minnesota, was sidelined from Wednesday practice, according to the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

(9/8/2013) Defensive end Billy Winn has been elevated to a starting spot for the Browns on Sunday. He will replace Ahtyba Rubin, who has been ruled out with a calf injury.

Winn received significant playing time as a rookie in 2012. The sixth-round pick played in every game with 10 starts. He recorded 19 tackles and one sack.


Browns seeking trade partners for defensive linemen?

(8/29/2013) The Browns are deep along the defensive line, which cannot be said about the team at several other positions. That's why they could be considering trade partners for several of their defensive lineman, according to the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

Among the possibilities to be dealt are Billy Winn and John Hughes, both of whom showed potential in 2012. They should get extended playing time Thursday night in Chicago.
