News: FOXSports.com reports that free agent WR Dexter Jackson is expected to work out for the Bengals this week.
Analysis: Jackson, a former second-round pick, didn't play for anyone in 2009 after failing to make a grab with Tampa Bay in his rookie season of 2008. If he does get picked up by Cincy, he would be buried on the depth chart to start off and remains not worth worrying about in Fantasy play.
News: The Panthers have released WR Dexter Jackson. He was battling for a roster spot.
Analysis: Jackson has not lived up to the hype of a second-round pick, which is where Tampa Bay drafted him once upon a time. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: The Buccaneers have released underachieving wide receiver Dexter Jackson, a second-round draft pick out of Appalachian State in 2008. He appeared in the first seven games of last season, primarily as a kick returner with limited success before losing the kick return job to undrafted free agent Clifton Smith, who went on become a Pro Bowl selection. The Bucs announced the move before practice Monday. Jackson didn't have any receptions as a rookie and has been slowed this preseason by an ankle injury.
Analysis: Jackson should get a look elsewhere as he was a relatively high draft pick last year and has some value as a special-teams player. We weren't high on him with the Bucs and we doubt we'll warm up to him again when he finds a new home, so keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: The Tampa Tribune reports the Bucs are looking for more from WR Dexter Jackson this year, and so far he has improved from a disappointing rookie season in 2008. "He's made a lot of improvement," Bucs receivers coach Richard Mann said. "He's actually kind of picked up where he left off in offseason workouts. He's still not perfect, but he's a lot better than he was. You can tell he's been working at it."
Analysis: Jackson will compete with Maurice Stovall, Brian Clark and Sammie Stroughter for playing time, but he has a long way to go to help Fantasy owners. Ignore Jackson on Draft Day this season.
News: With Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard gone, the Bucs plan to start Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton at WR this season, according to the Tampa Tribune. Playing behind those guys is up in the air. Bucs receivers coach Richard Mann said Maurice Stovall and Brian Clark are the leading candidates for more playing time when he was asked on Tuesday. "Those spots have to be filled," Mann said. "We got a lot of guys in contention for that position. Mo is one of them. If he stays healthy, Mo has always looked good since he's been here. It's just that he gets hurt and it goes down the tube, but it's been legit injuries. If we can keep him healthy, he might have a shot to be in one of those two places. Right now BC is looking OK. Again, I haven't seen BC play in a lot of games, but I think a lot of that is because he had to wait his turn. ... Now BC's time has come. Now it's time to step up and grab one of those spots and right now I think he's on schedule." Mann said receiver Dexter Jackson has shown signs of progress, but still needs to evolve. Mann also said rookies Amarri Jackson and Pat Carter have shown impressive work ethics, while Sammie Stroughter has also caught his eye. He also thinks Kelly Campbell has potential, but Mann needs to see more of him now and during training camp.
Analysis: Stovall has minimal Fantasy value at this time and should not be drafted in any leagues this year. The same goes for Clark and Dexter Jackson until they prove themselves. As for the other options in Amarri Jackson, Carter, Stroughter and Campbell, they have minimal Fantasy value and should not be drafted either.
News: The Buccaneers listed WR Dexter Jackson, QB Josh Johnson, RB Noah Herron, LB Matt McCoy and DL Chris Hovan among their inactives for Week 15 at Atlanta.
Analysis: None of these players ever does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: The Buccaneers have announced the inactives for their Week 12 game at Detroit. Not in uniform will be: QB Josh Johnson (third QB), QB Brian Griese (elbow), WR Dexter Jackson (coach's decision), SS Jermaine Phillips (forearm), RB Noah Herron (coach's decision), TE Alex Smith (ankle) and DT Greg Peterson (coach's decision).
Analysis: Smith and Phillips have some minimal Fantasy value when healthy, but Smith has now missed two straight weeks while Phillips is out for a third straight week. Smith will be replaced by Jerramy Stevens again. None of these other guys have any Fantasy value.
News: The Buccaneers have announced the inactives for their Week 11 game vs. Minnesota. Not in uniform will be: QB Josh Johnson (coach's decision), QB Brian Griese (elbow), WR Dexter Jackson (coach's decision), SS Jermaine Phillips (forearm), RB Cadillac Williams (coach's decision), TE Alex Smith (ankle) and DT Greg Peterson (coach's decision).
Analysis: Griese, Jackson, Williams and Smith have some value in deeper leagues, but none were really expected to play today. The rest have no Fantasy value.
News: Buccaneers listed QB Brian Griese, WR Dexter Jackson, RB B.J. Askew, WR Maurice Stovall and QB Josh Johnson among their inactives for Week 9 at Kansas City.
Analysis: Griese used to start for the Buccaneers, but he has an elbow injury and won't unseat Jeff Garcia even when he returns. None of these other players does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy.
News: Tampa Bay WR Dexter Jackson did not record a catch but he had two punt returns for 3 yards and one kickoff return for 4 yards.
Analysis: Jackson has minimal Fantasy value because he doesn't see much time on offense. Ignore him in all leagues in Week 8 at Dallas.
News: The following Buccaneers players did not record any statistics in Week 6 vs. Carolina: WR Dexter Jackson, LS Andrew Economos and WR Maurice Stovall.
Analysis: None of the players on this list should be considered viable Fantasy option. They are not in a position to contribute regular stats as they aren't in line for regular playing time. They've got some depth chart climbing to do and should be left on the waiver wire.
News: Buccaneers RB Byron Storer, WR Dexter Jackson and TE Jerramy Stevens all dressed Week 5 at Denver, but failed to record an offensive stat.
Analysis: Most of these guys are reserves for the Bucs and play a small role on offense. They have little to no Fantasy value heading into Week 6 against the Panthers.
News:The Sports Xchange reports that WR Dexter Jackson may have lost his job as a kickoff return man following his performance against the Bears in Week 3. Jackson rarely made it past the 20-yard line and stumbled on two of his returns, a recurring problem this season. "I'll have to look at his shoes. We've got to try to keep him on his feet," Bucs coach Jon Gruden said.
Analysis: Jackson does not get used much as a receiver, so his only appeal in Fantasy leagues would be in leagues that reward return yardage. Even in those leagues, he hasn't been used because he hasn't had much success in the return game.
News: Buccaneers WR Dexter Jackson, FB Byron Storer and backup QB Luke McCown were all active for Week 3 at Chicago but didn't record an offensive stat.
Analysis: None of these guys should be considered in Fantasy play. Ignore all of them in Week 4 when the Bucs host the Packers.
News: Buccaneers WR Antonio Bryant was held without a catch in a Week 2 win over the Falcons. Also held stat-less were WR Dexter Jackson, FB Byron Storer, TE Ben Troupe and QB Luke McCown.
Analysis: Bryant has some minimal value in deeper leagues, while none of these other guys should be considered in Fantasy play. Ignore all of them in Week 3 at Chicago.
News: Buccaneers WR Dexter Jackson, FB Byron Storer, TE Ben Troupe, WR Maurice Stovall and TE John Gilmore all dressed for Tampa Bay's Week 1 loss to the Saints but did not record an offensive statistic.
Analysis: None of these players has any Fantasy value at this current time.
News: The St. Petersburg Times reports rookie WR Dexter Jackson will make his biggest contribution as a punt returner. He could also be asked to be deep on kickoffs with Micheal Spurlock. The hope is that Jackson will evolve as a receiver. At 5-10, 182, he is slightly lighter than Joey Galloway. But his speed is comparable. Jackson ran 4.33 seconds in the 40-yard dash. But Jackson never caught more than 33 passes in a season at Appalachian State. He has a long way to go before he learns to be effective as a wideout in the NFL. "Coach (Jon) Gruden is going to spot-play me throughout the season," Jackson said. "Like trick plays and decoy routes. Whatever the team might need."
Analysis: Don't plan on drafting Jackson in most Fantasy leagues this year since he won't see much time on offense. His value will improve in the future, but for now ignore him in most Fantasy drafts.
News: Bucs WR Dexter Jackson has a chance of making a splash as a rookie, reports the St. Petersburg Times. The sentiment around the team is Jackson has a chance to be electrifying in the open field, and that could do wonders for field position. And don't dismiss Jackson as a receiver, either. The Bucs are giving him plenty of reps in workouts and, thus far, he hasn't disappointed.
Analysis: Jackson's impact will mostly come on special teams. Don't plan on drafting him in seasonal leagues, but in rookie drafts, he should be taken with a middle-round pick.
News: Tampa Bay drafted WR Dexter Jackson in the second round from Appalachian State, but he is expected to contribute more on special teams than offense. The Bucs also drafted DT Dre Moore from Maryland in the fourth round, QB Josh Johnson from San Diego in the fifth round, LB Geno Hayes from Florida State in the sixth round and RB Cory Boyd from South Carolina in the seventh round.
Analysis: Jackson has minimal Fantasy value if he's not going to play on offense. Keep an eye on what develops with his status heading into training camp. Moore is a space eater and has minimal Fantasy value in IDP leagues. Johnson will likely find himself on the practice squad with the Bucs loaded at quarterback. And Hayes and Boyd will make more of an impact on special teams.
