Cowboys make final cuts

News: The Cowboys made their final cuts on Saturday in order to get down to the league-mandated 53 players, and there were some notable subtractions. Among the players released were FBs Chris Gronkowski, Jason Pociask Shaun Chapas and Isaiah Greenhouse; WRs Tysson Poots, Manuel Johnson, Lyle Leong and Teddy Williams; DBs Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Mario Butler, Chris Randle, Andrew Sendejo, Josh Thomas and Collin Zych; LBs Mike Balogun, Kenwin Cummings, Orie Lemon, and Brandon Williams; DE Jimmy Saddler-McQueen and RB Lonyae Miller.
Analysis: None of the players mentioned above were expected to see regular playing time had they made the roster, so Fantasy owners should continue to ignore them in most formats.

Cowboys draft two defenders

News: The Cowboys spent two draft picks in April on the defensive side of the ball, going with UNC LB Bruce Carter in Round 2 and Buffalo CB Josh Thomas in Round 5. Carter is working his way back from a knee injury suffered in college and is expected to battle for an inside linebacker job this summer. Thomas adds depth to the secondary.
Analysis: Carter has plenty of upside lining up in the middle of the Cowboys' defense. The knee injury will scare off Fantasy owners from using a pick on him in seasonal drafts, but the upside to rack up tackles is too strong to forget about him in long-term leagues. We'd spend a middle- to late-round pick on Carter in dynasty/keeper leagues and a mid-round pick in rookie-only drafts. Thomas isn't worth drafting in any Fantasy league.
