Woodson joins the Raiders

News: The Raiders have re-signed Charles Woodson, giving him a one-year deal to play safety. Woodson was originally drafted fourth overall by the Raiders in 1998.
Analysis: We'll probably see Woodson start as a safety and potentially play as a nickel cornerback. He'll turn 37 this season and hasn't been able to stay healthy for long periods of time so there's some risk in leaning on him in Fantasy. Ideally your best move is to draft him late as a Fantasy backup DB.

Packers to cut Woodson

News: The Packers are set to release defensive back Charles Woodson after he spent seven years in Green Bay. The news first appeared on the Twitter feed for Woodson's winery -- "Thank you Green Bay it was a great run!" -- and NFL Network reported that Carl Poston, Woodson's agent, said "They're getting ready to release him. It's part of the business." Wooson, 36, spent the first eight years of his NFL career in Oakland. The former Michigan star won the Heisman Trophy in 1997 and was the fourth player taken in the 1998 NFL Draft. He's an eight-time Pro Bowler, an NFL Defensive Player of the Year as well as a Super Bowl champion. Woodson, who moved to safety late in his career after playing cornerback, has 55 interceptions and is undoubtedly a first-ballot Hall of Famer. But conversations about Canton are premature; Poston said that Woodson "Sounds like he has a lot of football left," and that his client would "like to go play for a contender, win another Super Bowl. He caught that bug."
Analysis: Woodson played in just seven games last season after suffering a broken collarbone. But given the NFL's continuing evolution as a passing league and the dearth of capable defensive backs to slow it, we're guessing Woodson won't be out of work long. Keep an eye on where he ends up, and he should remain a low-end defensive back in IDP leagues. He is worth drafting with a late-round pick.

Could the Packers cut Woodson?

News: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel suggests cornerback Charles Woodson is a candidate to be cut because of the $10 million-plus price tag he'll have in 2013. A decision could come before March 12. Woodson's agent, Carl Poston, doesn't believe his client is going anywhere. "They haven't said anything to the contrary," Poston said, "so we're assuming he's going to be back."
Analysis: Woodson's numbers nosedived in 2012 thanks to him missing nine games. But even though he's getting older he has proven to be productive. Assuming he's still with the Packers we see Woodson as a worthy mid- to late-round pick in drafts, potentially as a No. 3 defensive back.

Woodson back for Packers

News: Green Bay defensive back Charles Woodson is active for the team's Wild Card matchup against Minnesota after overcoming a broken collarbone that sidelined him for the final nine weeks of the regular season. Woodson returned to practice this past week and was listed as probable on the team's injury report.
Analysis: Woodson, 36, has amassed 38 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his seven games this season while recording just one interception. The Packers could rely on him heavily during the playoffs, but is viewed as a low-end Fantasy option at this point.

Woodson cleared for playoffs

News: After missing the final nine weeks of the regular season, Packers defensive back Charles Woodson (collarbone) returned to practice Tuesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Woodson, who suffered a broken collarbone in Week 7, was cleared for contact and could return for the team's Wild Card matchup against Minnesota on Saturday. "I just think having Charles Woodson back helps our football team, his experience, play-making ability," Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said. "Glad to have him back on the field."
Analysis: Woodson, in his 15h NFL season, has been hesitant to rush back into game action until his collarbone is completely healed as its the second time in the past three years he suffered a fracture. The 36-year-old has amassed 38 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his seven games this season while recording just one interception. He could be thrust back into action for the playoffs, but is viewed as a low-end Fantasy option at this point.

Woodson inactive again for G.B.

News: Packers defensive back Charles Woodson was listed among the inactives for Week 17 against the Vikings. He was ruled out earlier in the week. It was the ninth straight game Woodson missed due to a broken collar bone.
Analysis: Woodson suffered the injury in Week 7 and has not been able to play since. While he might be able to return for the playoffs, consider the 36-year-old as more of a low-end Fantasy option in IDP formats, when healthy.

Woodson ruled out Week 17

News: The Packers have already ruled out cornerback Charles Woodson for the Week 17 regular-season finale at Minnesota Sunday. Woodson couldn't practice Wednesday due to his collarbone and coach Mike McCarthy said he'd miss the game due to doctor's orders.
Analysis: Woodson will miss his ninth straight game due to a broken collarbone suffered early in the season. Woodson was a relevant Fantasy option in IDP formats, when healthy, but his season is over for Fantasy purposes.

Woodson continues to sit

News: Packers defensive back Charles Woodson was inactive for an eighth straight game because of a broken collarbone Week 16 against the Titans. He was a limited participant in practice leading up to the game.
Analysis: With one week to go, Woodson is looking like a lost cause for Fantasy owners this season. Even at age 36, he's a relevant option in IDP leagues when healthy, contributing a good number interceptions to go along with a few tackles and sacks.

Woodson not ready to return

News: Packers defensive back Charles Woodson, who was a limited participant in practice all week, was officially ruled out of Sunday's contest against the Titans in Week 16. Woodson suffered a broken collarbone in Week 7 and has missed his last nine games.
Analysis: Green Bay was hopeful Woodson would be able to return for the rest of the season, but that possibility is becoming increasingly slim. The injury has obviously taken a bite out of his production and he has just 38 tackles on the year. Consider him a low-end Fantasy option when healthy.

Woodson not ready to return

News: Green Bay defensive back Charles Woodson remained on the sideline for Week 15 at Chicago while recovering from a broken collarbone. Woodson has been out since suffering the injury in Week 7 and has missed the past eight games for the Packers. He was not cleared from Sunday's game as a precaution. "I don’t know if I really want to sit and then just come back in the playoffs," he said. "I’d much rather get into the game, get some time in at game speed. Get myself dirty a little bit. So we’ll see what happens next week."

Woodson suffered the injury in Week 7 and was a limited participant in practice all week as he is hopeful of returning Week 15 at Chicago. He has missed his last seven games.
Analysis: It seems as if the Packers are confident that Woodson in the coming weeks, especially since he has been a limited participant in practice. We'll continue to keep an eye on his status moving forward. For now, Fantasy owners should keep him stashed in deeper formats heading into Week 14.

Woodson remains out for Green Bay

News: Packers defensive back Charles Woodson has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Vikings. It will be the sixth straight game he's missed due to a broken collarbone.
Analysis: Woodson is still expected to be sidelined for a couple of more weeks, so owners need to keep him reserved until further notice. He has shifted to safety and has still been a key playmaker for the Packers this season. Fantasy owners should seek for healthier alternatives at down the stretch. Keep him stashed in most formats moving forward.

News: Packers defensive back Charles Woodson is officially out for Week 8 against the Jaguars, after suffering a broken collarbone last week. Woodson is expected to miss six weeks of action.
Analysis: Woodson has told reporters that he thinks he can return sooner than six weeks, but it may not be up to him. He has been a key playmaker for the Packers, and remains worth stashing in the vast majority of Fantasy IDP formats moving forward. Obviously, turn to healthy options in Week 8.

Report: Woodson out six weeks

News: FOX Sports reports Packers defensive back Charles Woodson is expected to be out six weeks with a broken collarbone. CBSSports.com NFL Insider Mike Freeman reports Woodson feels he can come back sooner than six weeks.
Analysis: Even though he has moved to safety in 2012, Woodson has still been a key playmaker in the Packers' secondary. He will likely be replaced by M.D. Jennings at strong safety, but Woodson is owned in 100 percent of Fantasy IDP leagues for a reason. It appears Fantasy owners need to start making alternative plans heading into Week 8.

Woodson contribute a few tackles

News: Packers defensive back Charles Woodson recorded five tackles, including three solo, Week 7 at St. Louis. It was the fifth time this season that he recorded five or more.
Analysis: Of course, only twice this season has Woodson recorded more than five tackles, so it's not like he's a top contributor in that regard. He had seven interceptions last year, which is part of the reason why he's so widely owned in Fantasy IDP leagues, but so far this year, he has only one. He's still a pretty good option, but you shouldn't feel obligated to stick with him if you see someone you like better.

Woodson notches eight tackles

News: Packers defensive back Charles Woodson followed up his 14-tackle game in Week 4 against the Saints with eight tackles (one solo) in Green Bay's 30-27 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Woodson, who was moved to safety in the preseason, has embraced the new position, as far as IDP owners are concerned -- he has a sack and interception on top of 32 tackles so far this season. He continues to be an elite option heading into Week 6 against the Texans.

Woodson posts double-digit tackles

News: Packers defensive back Charles Woodson reached double digits in tackles for the first time this season in Week 4 against the Saints. He recorded 14 tackles (eight solo) and also defended a pass in the 28-27 win.
Analysis: Woodson has made a smooth transition to safety this season and has 24 tackles with an interception and 1.5 sacks thus far. He remains a solid option in Fantasy so keep the 35-year-old active in the majority of IDP formats.

Woodson makes big play in win

News: Green Bay defensive back Charles Woodson ended a Bears’ drive in Packers’ territory in the third quarter Thursday, when he made a diving catch on a Jay Cutler pass attempt, for his first interception of the season. Woodson added five tackles -- two solo -- in the game, as the Packers won, 23-10.
Analysis: Woodson has been pretty productive so far in his move to safety, coming up with a sack in Week 1 and then following that up with an interception. He is well suited for this position, and he should remain a strong Fantasy IDP option moving forward.

Woodson gets after QB in Week 1

News: Packers defensive back Charles Woodson was able to get after the quarterback in Week 1 against the 49ers. He recorded 1.5 sacks and finished with five tackles (three solo) in the 30-22 loss.
Analysis: Woodson has moved to safety this season and did a solid job of applying pressure Sunday. His career high of three sacks in a season is well within reach and he should continue to rack up tackles and interceptions as well. Continue to view Woodson as a solid option in the majority of Fantasy IDP formats.
