News:Kevin Faulk said Monday that he will formally announce his retirement from football on Tuesday. Faulk played 13 yards in the NFL, all with the Patriots, and racked up 3,607 yards rushing with 3,701 yards receiving. Faulk also totaled 33 touchdowns.
Analysis: Faulk was not much of a between-the-tackles runner for the Patriots but his versatility out of the backfield allowed him to be a potent option in the passing game. He held low-end Fantasy appeal in his younger days and should be ignored in all leagues going forward.
News: The Boston Globe reports that free agent running back Kevin Faulk reiterated that he would like to return to the Patriots for a 14th season, but the ball is in the teams court. Im being patient, still working out, but at the same time, doing what I have to do to maintain me and my family, Faulk said. He tore his right ACL against the Jets in 2010 and began the 2011 season on the physically unable to perform list. He returned to the roster in late October and played in seven regular-season games, finishing with 17 carries and seven receptions, but has since acknowledged that he wasnt at 100 percent physically. The 36-year-old said hes fully healthy now. However, Faulk said if New England does not bring him back, he will retire; he does not want to play for another team.
Analysis: Fantasy owners have moved on from Faulk, especially with the likes of Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead playing in roles Faulk would play in. Keep him off of rosters.
News: Running back Kevin Faulk told the Boston Herald that he'd like to play one more season, but only with New England. "I'm still praying, hoping," Faulk said. "If it doesnt happen, hey, I had a long run. God has blessed me with a long career as a running back, as a football player in general. But if it doesnt happen, hey, Im moving on."
Analysis: Fantasy owners have moved on from Faulk, especially with the likes of Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead playing in roles Faulk would play in. Keep him off of rosters.
News: The Boston Herald reports that Kevin Faulk is not prepared to retire -- yet. "Of course, I'd like to be involved in the New England Patriots; let's keep it at that," Faulk said. "I've been here 13 years playing and if I happen to retire or they don't happen to bring me back, I'm still going to be a New England Patriot. ... I'm very blessed and fortunate that I have a few options."
Analysis: Faulk was made inactive for the Patriots' Super Bowl game and wasn't a key contributor in 2011. Whether he plays or not, Faulk's just not worth a look in Fantasy.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk is contemplating retirement after being a healthy inactive for the Super Bowl loss to the Giants, reports the Boston Globe. "That morning, when I got the word that I wasnt going to dress . . . wow," Faulk said. I went in the room, cried a little bit, because 75 percent of me knew that this could be my last game playing, not playing, just dressing. If I dress, there could be that chance that I could play. So that really crushed me a whole lot. Went into my room, read my Bible, read so many different Scriptures, so many different chapters in the Bible, until it was time to go to the stadium. [I took] my exit physical after the game and the trainers give me a big hug and thats when I knew, like Wow, that might be it'."
Analysis: Faulk was drafted in 1999 and the 35-year-old RB is a member of New England's 50th anniversary team. He didn't actually declare himself retired, leaving the door slightly ajar on his 14th NFL season. Faulk might finish his career with 31 total touchdowns, 15 receiving and 16 rushing. He had a solid career, but isn't a recommended Fantasy option if he does return next year.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk rushed three times for 11 yards on Sunday in a win at Washington Week 14. Faulk added one catch for 1 yard in the game.
Analysis: Faulk had just 13 carries on the entire season entering the Week 14 game for the Patriots. Until he picks up the pace, Faulk is not going to carry any Fantasy value. He's not a recommended Fantasy option heading into Week 15 at Denver.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk has been ruled inactive for Week 11 against the Chiefs due to a knee injury. Faulk, who was limited in practice this week, has been dealing with a knee injury for sometime now.
Analysis: Faulk has played in just two games so far for the Patriots, totaling 60 yards on 16 touches. However, his knee appears to be an issue once again, so Fantasy owners will have to keep and eye on his status for Week 12 moving forward. Faulk can be considered a low-end option, when healthy.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk was listed as questionable on the official injury report on Saturday as he was limited in practice for the third straight day. Faulk's status is in doubt for the Week 11 Monday night game against the Chiefs. He has been dealing with a knee injury. Kansas City ranks 26th in the league in run defense, giving up 134 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 20 Fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Analysis: Faulk has played in just two games so far for the Patriots, totaling 60 yards on 16 touches. Even if he does play on Monday night, plan on leaving Faulk on the bench in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk was limited in practice for the second straight day on Friday as he prepared for Week 11 against the Chiefs.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk tallied five carries for eight yards during the Patriots' 37-16 win over the Jets in Week 10. Faulk, who was listed as questionable for the game after dealing with a troublesome knee injury, managed a lowly 1.6 yards per attempt in Sunday's game.
Analysis: Faulk was unable to duplicate the success he displayed in his first game back from the PUP list when he had 52 total yards against Pittsburgh a week earlier. The 35-year-old admitted he's not yet at 100 percent and it showed Sunday as he was held without a catch. With New England's running back situation becoming muddled, Fantasy owners should keep Faulk reserved in deeper formats for Week 11 against Kansas City.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk was activated from the PUP list two weeks ago and has seen action in one game. He's still dealing with this knee injury, which just won't go away. So far this year New York is allowing 123 yards on the ground per outing so far this year -- eight games -- and given up nine rushing scores. That comes out to 19.25 Fantasy points per game to opposing team's running backs.
Analysis: Just because he's active doesn't mean Faulk is worth starting in Fantasy leagues. New England also has BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Stevan Ridley and Danny Woodhead at their disposal, so Faulk will have to fight for touches. Owners should keep him reserved until he proves he's 100 percent.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk has played one game since being activated from the PUP list two weeks ago. He did not play last Sunday and now finds himself on the injury report. He had 21 yards on six carries and five catches for 20 yards in his season debut. With Faulk still dealing with this nagging knee injury, his status for Week 10 against the Jets is in question. So far this year New York is allowing 123 yards on the ground per outing so far this year -- eight games -- and given up nine rushing scores. That comes out to 19.25 Fantasy points per game to opposing team's running backs.
Analysis: The Patriots used Faulk a lot in his only game this year, which shuffled the running back situation a bit. New England also has BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Stevan Ridley and Danny Woodhead at their disposal, so Faulk will have to fight for touches if he's active for Week 10. The Patriots love his versatility on offense, but if he's not 100 percent don't expect much out of him on Sunday. There are too many factors going against Faulk, which is why he's not a recommended start for Week 10.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk was listed among the inactives for Week 9 against the Giants due to a knee injury. BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Stevan Ridley and Danny Woodhead are expected to see carries in his absence.
Analysis: Faulk made his season debut a week ago and gained 21 yards on six carries. He also had five receptions for another 20 yards. The Patriots love his versatility on offense but will have to go with their younger backs on Sunday. Keep an eye on his progress going forward to make sure this injury does not hinder him down the stretch. When healthy, Faulk should be considered a low-end Fantasy RB. Keep him stashed away for Week 9.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk is questionable for Week 9 against the Giants because of a knee injury. Faulk, who was activated from the PUP list prior to Week 8, was limited in practice throughout the week. He is one of several Patriots listed as questionable, but expected to play.
Analysis: After gaining 21 yards on six carries last week, Faulk could become more involved in New England's offense during Sunday's game. He seems to have surpassed Stevan Ridley and Danny Woodhead on the depth chart as he also collected five receptions for 20 yards against Pittsburgh. While he has never been counted on to carry the load as a runner, his versatility out of the backfield makes him an interesting option. The Giants are permitting an average of 20.3 Fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Consider Faulk a No. 3 Fantasy RB for Week 9.
News: After making his season debut a week ago, Patriots RB Kevin Faulk could become more involved in the offense heading into Week 9 against the Giants. He gained 32 yards on six carries and also had five receptions for 20 yards after coming off the PUP list. New York enters Sunday ranked 28th in the league against the run, giving up over 130 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 20.3 Fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Analysis: Faulk appears to have jumped over Stevan Ridley and Danny Woodhead on the depth chart and should see some touches on Sunday. While he has never been counted on to carry the load as a runner, his versatility out of the backfield makes him an interesting option in Fantasy. The Giants have not been able to limit many running backs thus far so consider Faulk as a low-end No. 3/high-end No. 4 Fantasy RB for Week 9.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk played his first game in over a year on Sunday against the Steelers and made a contribution. Faulk led New England's ground attack with six carries for 32 yards. He was also targeted five times, catching every pass, for 20 yards. He did not find the end zone. The Patriots would lose the game, 25-17. Faulk was activated from the PUP list on Saturday.
Analysis: Faulk sustained a knee injury last year and saw his first action of the year in Week 8. The Patriots now have four running backs on the roster, and all have contributed on some level this season. Fantasy owners should keep tabs on this running back situation during the week to see who the Patriots tab as the starter for Week 9. New England hosts New York next Sunday, team that has had trouble stopping the run this season. The Giants have given up nine rush touchdowns and an average of 130 yards on the ground through seven games.
News: New England activated RB Kevin Faulk and DL Brandon Deaderick from PUP the list Saturday prior to its matchup against Pittsburgh in Week 8. The Patriots also placed DB Ras-I Dowling (hip) on injured reserve.
Analysis: Faulk recently returned to practice after dealing with a knee injury for the first half of the season. He was added to the roster, but is unlikely to find much playing time behind starting RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis and several backups. Leave him untouched in all Fantasy formats.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk (knee) told reporters on Tuesday that he was set to return to practice. He has spent the first six weeks of the season on the PUP list.
Analysis: The Patriots are on a bye in Week 7 and return to action in Week 8 at the Steelers. Faulk will be buried on the depth chart behind starter BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead, among others. He will not be worth adding in Fantasy formats.
News: The Patriots placed DL Ron Brace, DL Brandon Deaderick and RB Kevin Faulk on the reserve physically unable to perform list. They will remain with the team for rehab and meetings, but may not practice. Beginning the week following Week 6 NFL play, they will be eligible to return to practice under a roster exemption. Upon returning to practice, they may work during a 21-day period, the end of which serves as a deadline for their roster exemption, with their status moving forward to be determined. The soonest any of them could play is Week 8 at Pittsburgh because the team is on bye in Week 7.
Analysis: None of these players are expected to be productive enough to warrant Fantasy use.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk re-signed with the Patriots for one year on Saturday. Faulk was considered a key veteran free agent for the team given his versatility and meaningful tenure with the organization. Faulk played in just two games last season and compiled 107 total yards.
Analysis: Faulk will be buried on the depth chart behind starter BenJarvus Green-Ellis and emerging threat Danny Woodhead, among others, so his Fantasy value is limited entering the 2011 season. The 35-year-old was never a threat for big numbers and certainly won't be at this stage in his career. Fantasy owners shouldn't look his way on Draft Day.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk re-signed with the team on Saturday. Faulk, 35, is coming back from a torn ACL and has to earn a spot on the roster behind BeJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead, along with Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley.
Analysis: Faulk still has plenty of work to do to actually play on Sundays for the Patriots at this point. He can be ignored on Draft Day.
News: The Boston Herald reports that Patriots RB Kevin Faulk could return to New England in 2011 even at 35 and coming back from last year's torn right ACL. He would have to earn a spot behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead and the two rookies, Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley. But the report says Faulk might have an advantage since because of the lockout, the rookies are way behind in knowing the plays and gaining the trust of coaches. With the exception of QB Tom Brady, theres no one who knows the Patriots offense better than Faulk. Hes been operating in it for the past 12 seasons.
Analysis: It sounds like a solid argument to bring Faulk back, and coach Bill Belichick has a fondness for veteran running backs. Still, even if he returns, Faulk would have minimal Fantasy value because he doesn't post a lot of relevant stats. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: RB Kevin Faulk is still working his way back from a torn right ACL, but the 35year old free-agent-to-be told the Boston Herald that he's not interested in retiring. "That word (retirement) is not in my vocabulary right now," Faulk said. "If it's possible, if (the Patriots) allow me to, I'd like to play another season. People are telling me they drafted two running backs, but hey, I've never questioned anything the Patriots have done. That's why they're who they are."
Analysis: A recent report on NESN.com said Faulk will "have a spot in camp if he wants it," and he could come in to compete with Shane Vereen as well as Danny Woodhead for the third-down job as well as playing on special teams. We'd be surprised if Faulk comes back this year, but the Patriots are fond of him in the front office, as is Tom Brady. Still, even if he returns, Faulk would have minimal Fantasy value because he doesn't post a lot of relevant stats. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: According to ESPN.com, RB Kevin Faulk took part in the Tom Brady-led workouts for the Patriots on Thursday at Boston College. Asked about his status as a free-agent, Faulk said: "I'm a free agent, but I'm a Patriot for life." Faulk, who has been with the team since 1999 and is coming off ACL surgery, could still be part of the team's plans even though the club drafted Shane Vereen (second round) and Stevan Ridley (third round). Said Faulk of the workouts: "Hey man, everybody's trying to get back into football right now. It went well. When you get a large group of guys into a situation in the area they're not accustomed to -- and they actually come out -- it speaks volumes of the commitment of the team."
Analysis: A recent report on nesn.com said Faulk will "have a spot in camp if he wants it," and he could come in to compete with Vereen as well as Danny Woodhead for the third-down job as well as playing on special teams. We'd be surprised if Faulk comes back this year, but the Patriots are fond of him in the front office, as is Brady. Still, even if he returns, Faulk would have minimal Fantasy value. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: According to nesn.com, RB Kevin Faulk could still return to the Patriots. Faulk, who suffered a knee injury last year, is a free agent this offseason. The report says he'll rehab the knee under the assumption that he'll play in 2011, and if his knee responds the way he hopes, he'll likely give it a go. The report also says Faulk will "have a spot in camp if he wants it," but the Patriots also drafted running backs Shane Vereen of Cal and Stevan Ridley of LSU in the 2011 NFL Draft to go with BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead.
Analysis: We'd be surprised if Faulk comes back this year, but the Patriots are fond of him in the front office, as is QB Tom Brady. Still, even if he returns, Faulk would have minimal Fantasy value. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: The Patriots drafted running backs Shane Vereen of Cal and Stevan Ridley of LSU in the 2011 NFL Draft, likely signaling the end of Kevin Faulk's time with the team. Faulk spent most of last season on injured reserve with a torn ACL and is a free agent this offseason.
Analysis: Faulk has spent 12 seasons with the Pats, totaling 31 touchdowns. We're not sure if he'll play football again, which makes him a risky choice in any Fantasy league. Pass on him at this point.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk will have ACL surgery on Thursday. He is out for the season.
Analysis: Faulk's spot in New England has been taken by Danny Woodhead recently, and Faulk isn't worth holding on to in keeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk confirmed Wednesday that he has a torn ACL and will undergo surgery next month. He is out for the season.
Analysis: Faulk is a key part of the Patriots offense and his presence will be missed sorely on third downs. However, luckily for Fantasy owners he didn't have a whole ton of value as a member of Bill Belichick's backfield committee, so can be dropped in deeper leagues without too much pain. Faulk should be back in 2011.
News: The Boston Globe reports that, according to a source, Patriots RB Kevin Faulk sustained a torn ACL in Sunday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Faulk was hurt when he got tackled by Jets CB Drew Coleman, and if this report is true, he will miss the rest of the 2010 season. Feel free to release him in all Fantasy formats at this point. The Patriots will likely continue to use a committee at running back, so this news doesn't really affect anyone in particular immediately.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk left in the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 2 loss to the Jets with a knee injury. Faulk carried the ball five times for 22 yards and made two catches for 15 yards before leaving.
Analysis: Coach Bill Belichick had no news on Faulk's injury Tuesday, but we'll see if he practices on Wednesday or not. Faulk was hurt when he got tackled by Jets CB Drew Coleman and appeared to be pretty badly injured on the play, so his Fantasy owners might get some bad news later this week. When healthy, Faulk is part of the running back committee in New England and usually isn't worth starting in most formats.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk led his team in rushing in Week 2 against the Jets. He carried the ball five times for 22 yards in the 28-14 loss. He was also targeted for four passes in the game, catching two for 15 yards. Faulk outrushed BenJarvus Green-Ellis (19 yards) and Fred Taylor (11 yards) in the loss.
Analysis: Faulk moved up the depth chart after the Patriots traded away Laurence Maroney but did not have huge numbers in Week 2. The 34-year-old had three carries for 23 yards and four catches for 47 yards in the opener against the Bengals but did less against a more stout Jets D. He is an excellent wild card by catching passes out of the backfield and returning kicks, but he is not the prototypical runner. New England has better backs that are pure runners, in Green-Ellis and Taylor, so Fantasy owners should consider Faulk as nothing more than a sleeper in deeper leagues as a flex option for Week 3 against the Bills.
News: After the Patriots traded away Laurence Maroney earlier in the week, RB Kevin Faulk should see an increased role for Week 2 against the Jets. The 34-year-old had three carries for 23 yards and four catches for 47 yards in the opener against the Bengals but New York gave up just 49 yards rushing in Week 1. In 21 career games against the Jets, Faulk has run for 509 yards and two touchdowns, with 474 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Faulk moves up on the depth chart for the Patriots but will likely continue to play his usual role as a reserve RB. He is an excellent wild card and could do some damage against the Jets blitz by catching short passes out of the backfield and turning them into big plays. Still, New England has better backs that are pure runners so Fantasy owners should stay away from Faulk in most leagues for Week 2 against the Jets.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk played well in Week 1 against the Bengals with three carries for 23 yards and four catches for 47 yards. The Patriots were without Laurence Maroney (thigh) for this game, which gave Faulk some extra playing time.
Analysis: Faulk will continue to play his usual role for the Patriots as a reserve RB with the chance to see his share of passes. He was targeted six times, and he's better suited for leagues where receptions count. Still, Maroney isn't expected to be out long, so don't consider adding him in the majority of leagues, and he's not worth using in Week 2 against the Jets.
News: The New England Patriots have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with running back Kevin Faulk. The versatile 11-year veteran has spent his entire career with the Patriots, helping them win three Super Bowls. The 33-year-old Faulk ran for 335 yards and caught 37 passes for 301 yards and scored three touchdowns last season.
Analysis: We like Faulk for his gritty game and do-anything attitude, but he's limited to being a reserve RB in the deepest of PPR leagues. In standard play he's not worth owning or drafting.
News: New England was playing from behind immediately in the Wild Card playoff loss to Baltimore on Sunday. Because of that, the team needed to throw the ball more often than they would have liked. That translated into minimal production from the team's four running backs. Kevin Faulk led the way with 52 yards on 14 carries. He added six receptions for 37 yards. Sammy Morris rushed once for 9 yards and had three grabs for 15. Laurence Maroney had one carry for 2 yards and made no catches. Finally, Fred Taylor rushed twice for 1 yard.
Analysis: Faulk is the longest tenured Patriots player and led the team in the playoff loss but only managed 335 rushing yards, 301 receiving yards and three total touchdowns this season overall. Faulk has minimal Fantasy value heading into Draft Day 2010 and likely should go undrafted.
News: The Patriots have listed the following players as inactive for Week 17 at Houston: DL Vince Wilfork, DL Ty Warren, RB Kevin Faulk, RB Laurence Maroney, DB Terrence Wheatley and DB Leigh Bodden.
Analysis: With Faulk and Maroney out, Sammy Morris will get the bulk of the carries for the Patriots. Be sure to also bench Bodden, Wilfork and Warren in deeper IDP leagues. Continue to ignore Wheatley.
News: You already know that Pats head coach Bill Belichick won't say anything about who's playing for how long when his team plays at Houston in Week 17. The Patriots are secured a home game next week with no chance at a bye, and the only way they can attain the No. 3 seed as opposed to the No. 4 seed is if they win. But the Patriots have quite a history of playing deep into the season even with playoff ramifications limited or locked up: Only once in their last six playoff appearances (all under Belichick) have the Patriots rested their starters in the season finale. That includes their 2007 run to a perfect regular season when they took on the Giants in Week 17. "Close game, blowout, we get behind, I'm expecting to play the whole game," QB Tom Brady said this week.
Analysis: There's elevated risk in starting any Patriots players in Week 17 since the team could opt to bench their starters without warning. But they could also deliver. Our hunch? Expect at least a half from Brady, Randy Moss and Wes Welker with the typical unreliable running back rotation from the Patriots. If that's good enough for you, start them in Week 17. Otherwise, consider other options before going with any of these guys since they could seriously disappoint. Check out what else we have to say about players on playoff-bound teams who might rest in Week 17.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk had six carries for 41 yards Sunday against Jacksonville.
Analysis: Faulk continues to share carries with Sammy Morris, Laurence Maroney and Fred Taylor, who returned Sunday against the Jags. Don't plan on using Faulk in Week 17 at Houston.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk ran once for 7 yards and caught a 3-yard pass in a Week 15 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Faulk has had a few brutal outings this season, and this is the latest. Faulk shares carries with Sammy Morris behind Laurence Maroney and will head into Week 16 vs. Jacksonville as just a flex option in deeper leagues.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk scored for a second straight week as New England defeated the Panthers in Week 14. Faulk finished with 58 yards and the score on 10 carries along with 17 receiving yards on three catches.
Analysis: Faulk appears to be earning Bill Belichick's trust down by the goal line and is clearly taking touchdowns away from Laurence Maroney. The Patriots play at Buffalo in Week 15 and Faulk looks like a nice flex option for that tasty matchup.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk ran three times for 15 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for minus-1 yard in a Week 13 loss at Miami. The score was his first on the ground this season.
Analysis: Faulk contributes here and there for the Patriots, but his Fantasy value only lies in the deepest of PPR leagues because of his inconsistent output. The Patriots host the Panthers in Week 14.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk needs only 34 yards on Sunday at Miami to pass Tony Collins for third most yards from scrimmage in team history. Faulk currently has 6,970 yards and Collins has 7,003 yards. RB Sam Cunningham is second all time with 7,359 yards. And Stanley Morgan is No. 1 with 10,352 receiving yards.
Analysis: Faulk continues to produce for the Patriots, but he's a low-end Fantasy RB heading into Week 13 at Miami. Keep him reserved in the majority of leagues, and his only value is in deep PPR formats.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk rushed three times for 22 yards and caught two passes for 30 more yards in the Week 12 loss on Monday night at the Saints. Faulk did not score as he played in New Orleans, his hometown. Faulk went to LSU.
Analysis: Faulk remains the Patriots third-down back and also figures nicely into the passing game for New England. That said, hes only registered one touchdown on the entire season and hes behind a bunch of names on the running back depth chart. For now, hes only worth using as a last-ditch desperation injury-replacement option for Week 13 at Miami.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk totaled two carries for 4 yards during a Week 11 win against the Jets. He also had four catches for 53 yards. His longest catch went for 25 yards. Unfortunately, he did not score.
Analysis: Faulk has taken a lot of heat over the last week since he failed 4th-down conversion against the Colts. The Patriots haven't lost faith in their third-down back since he has some of the best hands in the NFL among running backs. Faulk isn't going to put up a lot of rushing yards, but he definitely can have decent receiving totals. Still, he likely isn't going to put up enough totals to carry your Fantasy team. He is definitely a desperation Fantasy start for Week 12 against the Saints.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had a productive outing considering his usual effort, gaining 79 yards on 12 carries with 7 yards on two receptions.
Analysis: Faulk typically doesn't put up enough stats to warrant Fantasy use but saw a lot of action here in tandem with Laurence Maroney. Faulk remains nothing more than a bench option, primarily in PPR formats. The Patriots play the Jets at home in Week 11.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk ran twice for 15 yards and caught four passes for 35 yards in a Week 9 win over Miami.
Analysis: Faulk is playing a small part in the Pats offense while Sammy Morris and Fred Taylor are out, but we expected a little more from him. New England visits Indianapolis in Week 10, and Faulk will only be worthy of consideration in the deepest of PPR leagues.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had two carries for 19 yards and two catches for five yards in a Week 7 rout of the Buccaneers in London.
Analysis: The Patriots running game didn't really get going on Sunday and Faulk's numbers took a big hit because of that. New England is off in Week 8 so just stash Faulk in deeper leagues if he might be some use to you as a flex option down the stretch.
News: The Patriots travel to London to play the Buccaneers in Week 7, and with Sammy Morris already ruled out for the game, RB Kevin Faulk could see plenty of action in both the running and passing game. The Bucs rank 31st out of 32 teams against the run.
Analysis: Faulk's role in the New England offense has been pretty limited so far this season, but there's an outside shot he could put up some decent numbers in Week 7 against the awful Buccaneers. Start him as a flex option if you have faith he can contribute.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had one carry for 5 yards and three receptions for 54 yards during a Week 6 win against the Titans. Faulk had a 38-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. It was his first score of the season.
Analysis: The Patriots lost another running back in Sammy Morris (knee) in Week 6 after being down Fred Taylor (ankle). Still, Faulk pretty much remained in his same role as the Patriots' short-yardage and third-down back. Faulk has minimal Fantasy appeal heading into Week 7 against the Bucs because if he doesn't break off a big gainer than he won't help your team much.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk totaled four carries for 8 yards during a Week 5 loss to the Broncos. He also had three catches for 26 yards. However, Faulk is still without a touchdown in five games.
Analysis: Faulk might get a few more carries now that Fred Taylor (ankle) is on the sidelines, but he is still fighting for touches with Sammy Morris and Laurence Maroney. Faulk has pretty much developed into the Patriots' short-yardage and third-down back. Don't plan on using Faulk in Week 6 against the Titans, and his value is only best suited for PPR formats.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had five carries for 22 yards and one catch for 6 yards Sunday against the Ravens.
Analysis: Faulk is part of a crowded backfield for the Patriots, as Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris and Laurence Maroney each had at least five carries in the game. Don't plan on using Faulk in Week 5 at Denver, and his value is only best suited for PPR formats.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk, who has just eight total Fantasy points in his first three games this season in standard scoring leagues, will try to get things going in Week 4 vs. the Ravens. Baltimore ranks No. 1 against the run this season.
Analysis: Faulk hasn't seen much of the ball early this season, but he didn't really get going until October last season, so maybe he can shine in Week 4. Unfortunately, he will be facing the tough Ravens defense, so consider him just a low-end flex option in PPR leagues.
News: In the Patriots Week 3 win vs. the Falcons, RB Kevin Faulk had five rushes for 25 yards and three catches for 12 yards.
Analysis: Faulk continues to post modest totals as part of the Patriots' rushing team. His team hosts the Ravens and their run-stuffing defense in Week 4, so continue to keep Faulk planted on Fantasy benches and waiver wires for the upcoming matchup.
News: New England RB Fred Taylor has seen 17 carries in two games this season for the Patriots and has rushed for 71 yards. He scored a touchdown in Week 1 against Buffalo. The Patriots head home to face the Falcons in Week 3 and in three career games vs. Atlanta, Taylor has averaged 100.3 rushing yards per game and has two games with 100-plus yards (124, 121). Laurence Maroney has rushed for 55 yards in two games this year on 16 carries and Kevin Faulk has rushed for 15 yards on six carries and also has 54 receiving yards on seven catches. In his past three games against NFC teams, Maroney had three rushing touchdowns. Faulk doesn't have a rich history against the Falcons or the NFC.
Analysis: The Patriots' three-headed running back group seems to be led by Taylor heading into Week 3 based on the matchup history against the Falcons. After two weeks, it looks like Taylor and Laurence Maroney will share most of the carries in New England. However, you never know what Bill Belichick will do on a week-to-week basis. While Taylor certainly still has some life in his old legs, he's just too risky to use outside of the deepest of leagues in Week 3 vs. Atlanta and the same goes for Faulk and Maroney at this point.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had three rushes for eight yards and one catch for three yards in a Week 2 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Faulk has been seeing less carries than Fred Taylor and Laurence Maroney in the Patriots rushing attack, but he can pitch in now and again with a couple of touches and a few catches. He's remains worth stashing in deeper PPR leagues for the time being, but shouldn't really be starting in any formats at this point.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk, who totaled 58 yards in Week 1, will take on the Jets in Week 2. Faulk totaled 99 yards receiving in two meetings against New York last season.
Analysis: Faulk has his set role in New England, and his pass-catching ability gives him some minimal Fantasy value in deeper PPR leagues as a flex option. He does come up with a big game now and again, though.
News: Every single time the Patriots needed a big 3rd down play during Week 1's win over the Bills on Monday night, it seemed that Kevin Faulk was there to make it. Faulk finished with three carries for 7 yards but did his damage catching the football. He caught six passes for 51 yards.
Analysis: Faulk did not really factor much into the offense outside of 3rd down plays. The Patriots feature Laurence Maroney and Fred Taylor as well in the running game and that limits Faulk's value. He's far more valuable to New England than Fantasy owners. Use him as a low-end WR/RB option, at best, in Week 2's game at the Jets.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk will face a division opponent in Week 1 against Buffalo. He totaled just five carries for nine yards in two games against the Bills last year.
Analysis: Faulk is a valuable third-down and pass-catching back for the Patriots, but his appeal in Fantasy remains limited to deeper PPR formats for his ability to catch the ball out of the back field. He caught just two passes for 17 yards against the Bills last year, however.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk was not active for Thursday's preseason finale against the Giants because of an undisclosed injury. He missed the last two games and finished with just two carries for 14 yards in the preseason.
Analysis: We don't yet know the Faulk's status because the Patriots usually play injury news close to the vest. Faulk is a valuable third-down and pass-catching back for the Patriots. However, he is best used in PPR Fantasy leagues and doesn't have much value in standard formats.
News: Patriots RBs Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk were held out of the team's third preseason game at the Redskins with undisclosed injuries.
Analysis: Even though the Patriots are mum on these injuries, we don't believe them to be serious. We might not see them in the team's preseason finale because the team might prefer to keep them fresh for the regular season. Morris should be part of a congested backfield for the Patriots and be serviceable as a reserve RB in standard formats while Faulk could be as good as a low-end NO. 3 RB in deeper PPR leagues since he's got a good role as a reliable third-down back for New England. Both are worth late-round picks.
News: Patriots RB Fred Taylor was excited for his first day of training camp Thursday in New England. "It feels great," he said. "I'm privileged. We're in a recession and I have a job, so it feels great. It's a different experience." Taylor is competing with Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Laurence Maroney and BenJarvus Green-Ellis for playing time. Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn't give any hints who has the edge for the starter's spot. "Well, we feel like we have good competition at the running back position," Belichick said. "Those guys all really have proven themselves. Fred, of course, has had a tremendous career. Laurence has done a lot of great things for us. He played very well at the end of the '07 season and then he kind of had a short season last year. Sammy Morris has done a great job for us as has Kevin. [Green-Ellis], when he had an opportunity to play last year, was a good performer. So we'll let the players that we have in the backfield, put them out there, let them compete and let them play. I would think we would be able to get production from all of them because that's what we've gotten in the past."
Analysis: It sounds like you will get the dreaded RBBC with the Patriots, which means all these guys will be sharing carries. If you're looking to rank them, take Taylor first, Morris second, Faulk third, Maroney fourth and Green-Ellis last. At best, the No. 1 Patriots RB will be a No. 3 option, so only consider them as late-round fliers for reserves.
News: The Boston Globe reports that Kevin Faulk and not Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris or Laurence Maroney should be the starting RB for the Patriots this year. According to the report, the New England "offense is at its best passing the football, and Faulk is the top weapon and best pass protector in the single-back set with three or four receivers, as evidenced by the fact he's played more than any running back over the last two seasons (941 of 2,159 snaps, 43.5 percent)."
Analysis: Now, this doesn't mean Faulk will be the starter on first down ahead of Taylor, Morris or Maroney. But we do know that Faulk will definitely get plenty of playing time, especially in passing situations. For this reason, especially in PPR leagues, plan on drafting Faulk with a late-round pick.
News: According to the Providence Journal, Patriots RB Kevin Faulk is still going strong at 33 and has no plans to stop any time soon. "Of course. It's the game," he said. "I'm signed up for it. Of course I think about (retirement), but at the same time I put it in the back of my mind, because today is what I'm living for."
Analysis: Faulk will again be a factor for the Patriots as a receiver out of the backfield. He will share touches with Sammy Morris, Fred Taylor and Laurence Maroney, but the Patriots depend on Faulk to do a variety of things. He's worth a look in deeper leagues as a late-round pick, and at some point during the season, you'll pick him up off the waiver wire because that's what always happens with Faulk.
News: The Boston Globe reports that Patriots RB Kevin Faulk has looked good this offseason. The report states: "Faulk looked like his steady self. He is a smooth route-runner and his hands in the passing game are true. I saw nothing that would lead me to believe Faulk is slowing down."
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk did not carry the football in Sunday's 13-0 win over the Bills in a crazy windy day in Buffalo. Faulk made just one catch for eight yards but New England threw the ball just eight total times on the game.
Analysis: Faulk finished the season with 83 carries for 507 yards and three touchdowns and added 58 catches for 486 more yards and three more TDs. Finishing the season third on the depth chart behind LaMont Jordan and Sammy Morris, Faulk has really fallen out of favor with Fantasy owners of late and will likely enter 2009 as just a low-end Fantasy option unless the team says his role will be different.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had one carry for 1 yard and three catches for 27 yards and a touchdown Sunday against Arizona. Faulk now has a receiving touchdown in his past two games.
Analysis: Faulk continues to be a solid flex option for Fantasy owners and should be used in Week 17 against Buffalo. Even with Sammy Morris and LaMont Jordan active and playing well, Faulk continues to produce. Faulk had 19 total yards in his previous meeting with the Bills.
News: RB Kevin Faulk ran the ball six times and caught it an equal number of times on Sunday in Week 15 against the Raiders. His six carries went for 45 yards and his catches went for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Faulk is a dual threat out of the backfield, which makes him move valuable than he would be as the third-most used running back on the team in Week 15. Faulk is a solid flex option this week, but don't expect him to put up such bug numbers against the Cardinals in Week 16.
News: Patriots RB Sammy Morris hasn't done much since coming back from a knee injury that cost him three games, but he has scored two touchdowns the past two weeks against Pittsburgh and Seattle. He should make it three in a row this week at Oakland since the Raiders are among the worst run defenses in the NFL, allowing almost 159 rushing yards per game with 18 touchdowns on the season.
Analysis: Kevin Faulk could also play well this week and would make a solid flex option in all leagues. You can think of Morris more as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy running back, and the Patriots should be able to run over the Raiders as most teams have this season.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk totaled 16 yards on three carries in Week 14 against the Seahawks. Faulk also caught five passes for 22 yards.
Analysis: Faulk has been an all-purpose back for the Patriots over the past four weeks and has four total touchdowns on the season. The Patriots play at Oakland in Week 15 and against the Raiders porous defense we expect solid things from Faulk. Treat him as a No. 3 Fantasy RB in Week 15.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk was the Patriots offense in Week 13's loss to the Steelers. Faulk rushed for 73 yards on six carries with a long carry of 41 yards. He also caught seven passes to lead the team with 48 receiving yards. He did not score a touchdown in the game.
Analysis: Faulk has just three touchdowns on the season which is odd for a guy who touches the ball as much as he does. He looked good against a tough Steelers defense in Week 13 and has emerged as the best Fantasy weapon the Patriots have to offer next to Randy Moss. Still, consider him just a No. 3 Fantasy option in Week 14 at Seattle. The Seahawks have a porous defense and Faulk could put up some good numbers.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk ran eight times for 53 yards and a touchdown and caught six passes for 52 yards in a Week 12 win at Miami.
Analysis: Faulk's outing on Sunday was his best since he put up 107 total yards against the Rams earlier this season. His rushing touchdown was a nice run up the middle against a Dolphins defense that wasn't expecting anything of the sort. In Week 13, the Patriots host the Steelers, and Faulk is unlikely to be more than a 'flex' option for that matchup, although he could get more involved in the passing game.
News: In a pivotal AFC East game in Week 12, Kevin Faulk and the Patriots will play against the Dolphins in Miami. The matchup isn't a good one for the Patriots' running backs as Miami ranks ninth vs. the run with just five rushing TDs allowed this season and only one 100-yard game allowed all year.
Analysis: Because Faulk tends to be the passing-downs running back with the Patriots, he could see a lot of time on the field since Miami isn't as good against the pass as the run. His track record against Miami is not good -- he hasn't scored in any of the Pats' last three games against the Fish -- but because he's a candidate to catch a lot of passes and see a handful of reps, he fits in as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy RB in the deepest of leagues for Week 12. If you're desperate, Faulk is better than nothing.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk carried eight times for 38 yards against the Jets in Week 11's overtime loss. Faulk also caught four passes for 49 more yards. He did not find the end zone.
Analysis: The Patriots returned RB Sammy Morris in Thursday's Week 11 loss but Morris wasn't very prevalent. Faulk got the bulk of the work but it still wasn't much since the team needed to throw 51 passes. The Patriots play at Miami in the Week 12 and the Dolphins are one of the better rush defenses in the NFL. Faulk is just a 'flex' option in Fantasy in Week 12.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had five carries for 9 yards and caught one pass for 9 yards Sunday against Buffalo. Faulk again shared carries with rookie BenJarvus Green-Ellis (26 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown) with Sammy Morris (knee) and LaMont Jordan (calf) sidelined.
Analysis: Look for Faulk to play better in Week 11 against the Jets on Thursday. It's unlikely Morris and Jordan will return on a short week. Green-Ellis will be the one scoring touchdowns, so consider Faulk a No. 3 Fantasy RB against the Jets.
News: As expected, Patriots RB Sammy Morris (knee) and LaMont Jordan (calf) will miss Week 10 against Buffalo. Morris has now missed the past three games with the injury, and Jordan the past fivegames. Kevin Faulk and BenJarvus Green-Ellis will share carries against the Bills.
Analysis: Consider Faulk and BGE as No. 3 Fantasy options against the Bills. Both should be good as flex options this week and could be useful Fantasy running backs.
News: The New England Patriots could again be short-handed at running back when they face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Sammy Morris did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful. LaMont Jordan sat out practice the last two days and is listed as questionable. That has left the Patriots with only three healthy backs: Kevin Faulk, Heath Evans and free agent rookie BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
Analysis: Jordan has missed the last four games with a calf injury and Morris the last two with a knee injury. It's probably best for Fantasy owners to look to healthier alternatives outside of Jordan and Morris. As for Faulk and Ellis, consider Faulk a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB and Ellis a high-end No. 3 Fantasy RB or 'flex' option. Evans has little to no Fantasy value.
News: The Patriots were without Sammy Morris (knee) and LaMont Jordan (calf) in practice Thursday, and it appears like both will miss Week 10 against Buffalo. With Morris and Jordan out, Kevin Faulk and BenJarvus Green-Ellis are expected to share the load against the Bills.
Analysis: Keep Morris and Jordan reserved for Week 10 because it sounds like they will be out. Consider Faulk a No. 2 Fantasy option, with Green-Ellis a No. 3 or flex Fantasy RB.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk again led New England in rushing in Week 9 at Indianapolis. With Sammy Morris (knee) and LaMont Jordan (calf) out, Faulk had 10 carries for 60 yards and caught five passes for 38 yards. BenJarvus Green-Ellis had more carries (15 for 57 yards) and scored a touchdown, but Faulk had more total yards than Green-Ellis, who had one catch for 8 yards. Faulk also attempted one pass was 1-of-1 for minus-2 yards.
Analysis: Faulk remains a great low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB or flex option as long as Morris and Jordan are out. Continue to monitor what happens with Morris and Jordan, but if they miss Week 10 against Buffalo, keep Faulk in your active lineup.
News: The Boston Globe reports with Patriots RB Sammy Morris and LaMont Jordan (calf) sidelined last week against the Rams, the Patriots had just three healthy running backs: Kevin Faulk, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Heath Evans. Coach Bill Belichick did not reveal Tuesday whether Morris or Jordan would be ready for action Sunday at Indianapolis.
Analysis: Faulk had over 100 total yards and a touchdown against the Rams, and Green-Ellis had a goal-line score. Against the Colts, both would be good options since Indianapolis struggles to defend the run. Consider Faulk a No. 2 Fantasy option and Green-Ellis a No. 3 running back or flex option this week.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk ran 13 times for 60 yards and caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown in a Week 8 win over the Rams.
Analysis: Faulk lost out on a goal-line carry and touchdown to BenJarvus Green-Ellis on Sunday, but Faulk's owners will be glad he still managed to find the end zone when he caught a fade from Matt Cassel. It's unclear who will be the starting running back in Week 9 when New England visits Indianapolis, as Sammy Morris and LaMont Jordan could return from injuries. Hold on to Faulk in deeper leagues until the situation clears itself up and only use him as a bye-week replacement option if he gets the start again next week.
News: The Patriots listed RBs Sammy Morris and LaMont Jordan as doubtful for Week 8 vs. the Rams. That leaves Kevin Faulk, Benjarvus Green-Ellis and fullback Heath Evans as the only healthy running backs left on the roster.
Analysis: Starting any of these three rushers is a risky proposition since there's no rhyme or reason to how the Pats use their backs. That goes double when they're down to a third-down back in Faulk, a fullback in Evans and a scout team rusher in Green-Ellis. All three are low-end options, with Evans the worst of the bunch and Faulk the best, especially in leagues where receptions count.
News: The Boston Globe reports Patriots RB Sammy Morris's knee injury could force Kevin Faulk, Heath Evans and rookie BenJarvus Green-Ellis into extended action Sunday against the Rams. Faulk and Co. obviously hope that Morris, who is coming off a career-high, 138-yard performance and is being counted on to help fill the void with Laurence Maroney being placed on injured reserve, isn't down for long. If Morris isn't ready for action Sunday against the Rams, and LaMont Jordan misses his third straight game, that would leave the Patriots with Faulk, Evans and Green-Ellis at running back.
Analysis: It appears like Evans would get short-yardage carries, Faulk would play his usual role in passing situations and Green-Ellis would get the majority of touches filling in for Morris. That means neither player is worth using because Morris hasn't even been ruled out yet, and Jordan can still play. The safe option is to ignore all the Patriots running backs against St. Louis.
News: Even with Laurence Maroney going on injured reserve, LaMont Jordan inactive with a calf injury, and Sammy Morris leaving with a knee injury, Patriots RB Kevin Faulk still got only seven offensive touches Week 7 against the Broncos. He carried the ball four times for 50 yards and caught three passes for six.
Analysis: BenJarvus Green-Ellis got most of the carries when Morris went down, so who knows what to expect from the Patriots backfield these days? Faulk still seems like a decent waiver claim this week because he'll continue to serve as the team's main pass-catching back whether Morris or Green-Ellis starts going forward. Just don't count on Faulk as more than a low-end No. 3 Fantasy RB in Week 8 against the Rams.
News: With starter Laurence Maroney sidelined by a shoulder injury, Patriots RB Kevin Faulk ran eight times for 48 yards and caught three passes for 29 in Week 6 at San Diego.
Analysis: Faulk had to contend with only Sammy Morris for touches in Week 6, and he still came out on the short end of the stick. In most cases, as a part of a four-back committee, he doesn't deserve to start in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers in standard 10- or 12-team leagues for Week 7 against the Broncos.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk ran seven times for 32 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 5 win over San Francisco. He also caught four passes for 29 yards.
Analysis: The Patriots have the truest running back-by-committee in the NFL, and Fantasy owners hate it. That makes Faulk and the rest of the running backs in New England risky starts in any leagues heading into Week 6 at San Diego. The fact Faulk is getting the goal-line carries right now makes him a little more attractive than Laurence Maroney or Sammy Morris, but only as a 'flex' option.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had just one carry for six yards in a Week 3 loss to the Dolphins. He did have two catches for six yards, however.
Analysis: Faulk had a nice outing in Week 2, but with the way the Patriots rotate their RBs, there was always a chance he would regress in Week 3 and that's exactly what happened. Continue to ignore him in most formats for now, and especially in Week 4 as the Patriots are off.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk returned to action Week 2 against the Jets after sitting out the opener against Kansas City because of a suspension handed down by the NFL. Faulk had three carries for 16 yards against the Jets, but made an impact catching the ball with four receptions for 50 yards. His longest catch went 22 yards.
Analysis: Faulk saw a few extra touches against the Jets as Laurence Maroney battled a shoulder injury. Maroney will likely be questionable heading into Week 3 against the Dolphins, but that doesn't mean scurry to the waiver wire to add Faulk. His primary purpose will always be a pass-catching back and third-down player. He still remains a low-end Fantasy RB.
News: The NFL has suspended Patriots RB Kevin Faulk for one game and fined him two pay checks for violating the league's Substance Abuse Policy. He'll be eligible to return to the team after their Week 1 game vs. Kansas City.
Analysis: Faulk should continue to be the third-down back in the Patriots' offense. He's useful in deep PPR leagues but not anywhere else.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk is not concerned about the addition of new RB LaMont Jordan. "Upset me? I'm a competitor," Faulk said said in the Boston Herald when asked about the impact that the acquisition of Jordan could have on the Patriots. "Whatever the team does is in the best interest of the team. You just have to stay focused on what you're doing." Now entering his 10th season as a member of the Pats, Faulk already owns the club record for career receptions by a running back with 323. Last year, 20 of Faulk's 47 receptions went for first downs and his role in the running game increased some after a season-ending injury to Laurence Maroney's backup, Sammy Morris. By the end of the season, Faulk's 62 carries (for 265 yards) were his most since 2003.
Analysis: Faulk's job will likely remain the same, which is to catch passes. He will lose some playing time to Jordan, but Faulk shouldn't be drafted in most Fantasy leagues anyway. If anything, add Faulk off the waiver wire during the year if Jordan hasn't cut into too much playing time.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor possession of marijuana, stemming from an incident this February, according to KATC-TV in Louisiana and reported in the Boston Globe. The paper reports Faulk will have his 5-month jail term suspended and will be given a one-year supervised probation with several conditions. He will have to pay a fine of $300 along with $231 in court costs and a $250 fee for a drug analysis. In addition, he will have to perform 40 hours community service and complete 20 hours of a substance abuse program. On Feb. 22, Faulk was found with four hand-rolled cigars filled with the illegal substance while attending a Lil' Wayne rap concert in his home state of Louisiana.
Analysis: Faulk still could face a possible suspension from the NFL for getting in trouble during the offseason. Keep an eye on what happens, but Faulk is a low-end Fantasy option in 2008 since he is expected to be the No. 3 RB for the Patriots behind Laurence Maroney and Sammy Morris. Faulk's best Fantasy value is in leagues where receptions count.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk passed a drug test after being caught at a concert with four joints and will not have to enter the NFL's substance abuse program, according to a Louisiana newspaper. The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette spoke to Faulk, who told the paper the marijuana did not belong to him, but was instead in the pocket of a borrowed jacket he was wearing while attending a concert last Friday. Faulk was issued a misdemeanor summons for possession of marijuana when a routine search by a sheriff's deputy revealed the four marijuana cigarettes. Faulk told the paper that he immediately contacted Patriots coach Bill Belichick and submitted to the drug test Monday.
Analysis: Hopefully this is the last time Faulk will have a run-in with authorities and won't face any more possible drug suspensions. If he is not suspended as expected, Faulk would be considered a low-end Fantasy option in 2008. He is expected to be the backup to Laurence Maroney and assume the third-down back duties.
News: New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk was issued a misdemeanor summons last Friday for possession of marijuana. Capt. John Babin of the Lafayette Metro Narcotics Task Force confirmed the summons on Tuesday. Faulk, a Louisiana native and former LSU star, was on his way to a suite in the Lafayette Cajundome to watch a performance by rapper Lil' Wayne, when a routine search by a sheriff's deputy turned up four marijuana cigarettes, Babin said. Everyone heading to the suites was searched, Babin said. Faulk was not arrested or required to post bond. "He was cited for simple possession, which is a misdemeanor," Babin said. "It's based on an amount possessed for personal use."
Analysis: Faulk will be sent a letter notifying him of the court date when it is set. "There was no trouble, Kevin was very cooperative," Babin said. "We are aware of the report, but I don't have any additional comment at this time," Patriots spokesman Stacey James said. Faulk might be 31 and coming off his ninth year in the NFL, but he remains a valuable player for Tom Brady. Faulk, who is New England's third-down back, appeared in all 16 games and had 265 yards rushing. He also added 47 catches, which was third on the team behind Wes Welker and Randy Moss, for 383 yards and one touchdown. This legal matter will likely not follow him into the 2008 season. He is at best a No. 4 Fantasy RB on Draft Day.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk might be 31 and coming off his ninth year in the NFL, but he remains a valuable player for Tom Brady. Faulk, who is New England's third-down back, appeared in all 16 games and had 265 yards rushing. He also added 47 catches, which was third on the team behind Wes Welker and Randy Moss, for 383 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Faulk continues to be a very valuable commodity to the Patriots, but he doesn't make much of an impact in Fantasy leagues. He should be considered a No. 4 Fantasy option at best, and his biggest asset is catching the ball, so he might be worth a look in leagues where receptions count. Don't plan on drafting Faulk in 2008, but he could be a bye-week replacement or injury addition depending on what the Pats do at running back behind Laurence Maroney.
News: Patriots backup RB Kevin Faulk ran seven times for 29 yards and caught one catch for nine yards in New England's 28-7 win over the Dolphins in Week 16.
Analysis: Faulk is used occasionally to spell Laurence Maroney in New England offense, but doesn't get enough touches to be worthy of Fantasy consideration in Week 17 against the Giants.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk rushed for 20 yards on four carries and had three catches for 19 yards vs. the Jets in Week 15.
Analysis: Faulk doesn't accumulate enough stats to warrant use outside of the deepest of reception-based leagues. The Patriots play the Dolphins at home in Week 16.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had three catches for 15 yards Sunday against the Steelers. He did not have a carry.
Analysis: Faulk remains a low-end Fantasy RB. He does not get enough touches to help your Fantasy team, but he could be useful as a flex option in deep leagues in Week 15 against the Jets.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had 51 total yards Week 13 at Baltimore -- 33 on seven carries and 18 on two catches.
Analysis: The Patriots use Faulk primarily to block and catch some passes out of the backfield. He is not an integral part of the their offense unless something happens to starter Laurence Maroney. Consider Faulk a desperation 'flex' option for Week 14 against the Steelers.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk did not practice Wednesday or Thursday because of a thigh injury, but returned to practice Friday and was cleared from the injury report. Faulk, who has been active for all 11 games, has 185 rushing yards and zero rushing touchdowns this season. He will backup Laurence Maroney Week 13 against the Ravens.
Analysis: Faulk is primarily used to block and catch some passes out of the backfield. He is not an integral part of the Pats offense, unless something happens to Maroney. Consider Faulk a desperation 'flex' option for Week 13.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk (thigh) did not practice Wednesday or Thursday as the team prepares for Week 13 at Baltimore. Faulk, who has been active for all 11 games, has 185 rushing yards and zero rushing touchdowns this season.
Analysis: Faulk is primarily used to block and catch some passes out of the backfield. He is not an integral part of the Pats offense, unless something happens to Laurence Maroney. Consider Faulk a desperation 'flex' option for Week 13, if healthy.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk played the entire first half Sunday against the Eagles. Coach Bill Belichick opted for Faulk as the primary back, using him to block and occasionally catch passes coming out of the backfield, according to the Boston Herald. As it was, the Pats only recorded two rushing plays in the first half. Laurence Maroney did not play a down in the first half. Maroney made his first appearance with 11:27 remaining in the third quarter. He finished with 31 yards on 10 rushes and a touchdown. Faulk had three catches for 30 yards and two carries for no yards.
Analysis: At this point, consider Maroney a No. 3 Fantasy RB and Faulk a No. 4 option. It would be nice if Maroney saw more action, but it's unlikely to happen the way the season has gone so far.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk caught three passes for 30 yards Week 12 against the Eagles. He didn't gain anything on two carries.
Analysis: Faulk is decent Fantasy insurance for starter Laurence Maroney, though neither runner is providing much of a spark for the Pats. In most leagues, he's not worth starting when the Patriots visit the Ravens in Week 13.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk did not appear on the injury report listed Wednesday. He left Week 11 at Buffalo with a head injury.
Analysis: Faulk faces Philadelphia in Week 12 and should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy option. The Eagles are No. 12 in run defense with four touchdowns allowed.
News: New England running back Kevin Faulk sustained a head injury after catching a 10-yard pass Sunday at Buffalo. The injury occurred midway in the second quarter after Faulk caught a pass from Tom Brady and was hit by Buffalo's Donte Whitner at the Bills 11-yard line. He sat on the ground, then walked off the field and sat on the bench. Faulk is the Patriots' third-down back. He was third on the team in rushing entering the game and fourth in receiving with 25 catches.
Analysis: Faulk is decent Fantasy insurance for starter Laurence Maroney, although neither runner is providing much of a spark for the Pats. In most leagues, he's not worth starting when the Patriots host the Eagles in Week 12.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk has averaged 7.5 carries a game in the last four Patriots games as he continues to capitalize on the absence of the injured Sammy Morris. Faulk will try to turn those carries into a first trip to the end zone this season when New England heads to Buffalo in Week 11.
Analysis: The running back situation in New England is a nightmare for Fantasy owners as Bill Belichick insists, quite rightly, on putting the ball in the hands of Tom Brady more often than either of his running backs. Faulk will get probably 5-8 rushes on Sunday night, but unless he finds the end zone, he will have no Fantasy value. Consider him a low-end No. 3 Fantasy RB in Week 11.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had the biggest moment in the biggest game. His 13-yard, catch-and-run touchdown with 3:15 left in the game Week 9 gave New England the clinching score in a 24-20 win against them unbeaten Indianapolis. Faulk finished with three receptions for 20 yards. He also rushed seven times for 29 yards.
Analysis: Faulk has always been the Patriots' best pass-catching running back and showed why against the Colts. Now that Sammy Morris is out for the year, he becomes the backup running back to Laurence Maroney. When the matchups appear favorable, he can be considered a No. 3 Fantasy RB or 'flex' option. The Patriots are on a bye Week 10, but return to action Week 11 against the Bills.
News: One current Patriot who has seen his fair share of work against the Colts is RB Kevin Faulk, the Patriots' "passing downs" back. Since Tom Brady took over as the Patriots' starting QB, Faulk has played a role in every game against Indy (albeit a small one). Since 2001, Faulk has one touchdown (a 2001 run) and 15 catches over six games. Faulk has also played a role in every Patriots game this season, seeing a lot of snaps but averaging just 6.9 touches per contest. The Colts' run defense ranks 13th in rush yardage allowed, giving up 107.4 per game with five ground scores totaled all season. Only Travis Henry rushed for over 100 yards on Indianapolis this season.
Analysis: Faulk is a decent Fantasy option as a No. 3 RB in leagues that count receptions. If the game turns into a shootout, which is very likely, Faulk will be on the field a lot and could rack up several 8-to-10-yard receptions and maybe even a touchdown. If receptions don't count, he's a low-end No. 3 RB and a decent bye-week replacement for the Week 9 showdown.
News: Patriots backup RB Kevin Faulk totaled 32 rush yards on five carries and added 57 receiving yards on seven catches vs. Washington in Week 8.
Analysis: Faulk continues to assist in the running game for New England as a third-down/passing downs back. He's not a bad start as a No. 3 RB in deeper leagues, and you may consider him in that role for Week 9's showdown at Indianapolis.
News: After getting 12 carries in Week 6, Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had only six carries for 27 yards in Week 7 with the return of Laurence Maroney to the starting lineup. Faulk and the Patriots take on the Redskins in Week 8.
Analysis: Faulk and the rest of the RBs in New England have become just an afterthought with the ridiculous stats being put up by Tom Brady, Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Leave Faulk alone in Week 8 unless you have no other option at the position.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk ran for 27 yards on six carries and caught one pass for seven yards in New England's 49-28 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 7.
Analysis: Faulk split carries with Laurence Maroney on Sunday and only got four less yards than Maroney in the rushing department. Faulk will likely play the same role in Week 8 when the Patriots host the Redskins, but you have to think Maroney will get more and more carries as he gets healthier. Faulk will likely only be a No. 3 Fantasy RB at best in Week 8.
News: The Boston Herald, citing an NFL source, reports that RB Sammy Morris hurt a bone in his chest and will be out at least for Week 7 at Miami and could miss as much as a month. He injured the bone connecting the sternum and clavicle and left Texas Stadium in a sling and in pain. A preliminary diagnosis didn't reveal any broken bones, reports the source. The paper adds that the team hopes Laurence Maroney (groin) will be ready to play at Miami in Week 7, and that the Patriots brought in free-agent RB Kevan Barlow for a workout on Tuesday.
Analysis: Fantasy owners who have Morris should bench him for the time being. Those that have Maroney should stick to the site for the latest on him this week leading up to the game. If he plays, expect him to split reps with Kevin Faulk and Heath Evans, particularly at the goal line. If Maroney misses the game, then Faulk should see the bulk of the work at running back for the Patriots with Evans pitching in. We'll know more as the week goes on. Barlow is at best a Fantasy roster flier at this time.
News: Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Monday that he had no news on the status of RB Sammy Morris, who left the club's Week 6 game at Dallas with what was believed to be a chest injury. Morris totaled 14 yards on 10 carries in the game. "No. Sorry," was all Belichick said when asked for an update on Morris' status on Monday.
Analysis: Morris was playing in place of Laurence Maroney, who has missed three straight games with a groin injury. It is believed that Maroney would be ready to step in for Morris if Morris cannot play. Kevin Faulk and Heath Evans would also see playing time, and those two would play extensively if Maroney was still not able to play. We'll be sure to keep on top of the Patriots' RB situation since whomever plays the most will be a strong option at Miami in Week 7.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk continued his role as backup running back to Sammy Morris Week 6 against Cowboys, but was pressed into a larger role when Morris left the game early in the third quarter with a chest injury. Faulk finished the game with 13 carries for 50 yards. His longest gain went for nine yards. Faulk also had four receptions for 24 yards.
Analysis: Faulk looked pretty good running the ball Week 6, but by the time he started receiving carries in the fourth quarter, the Cowboys defense was tired. Fantasy owners will need to track the ongoings in New England heading into Week 7. The Patriots play the Dolphins, who own a poor rush defense. If Laurence Maroney (groin) and Morris are idle, Faulk might be worth using as a stopgap Fantasy option.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk rushed three times for six yards during a Week 5 win over the Browns. His longest gain went for five yards. He also had one reception for seven yards.
Analysis: Faulk remains the Patriots' third-down back and pass-catching specialist, but he is more important to his team than he is too Fantasy owners. It is probably best to keep him as a Fantasy reserve for Week 6 against the Cowboys.
News: With RB Laurence Maroney (groin) out for Week 4 at Cincinnati, Kevin Faulk saw more action than usual. He carried three times for 22 yards and he posted three receptions for 39 yards.
Analysis: Faulk is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 5 against the Browns unless Maroney is still not yet ready to return.
News: The New England Patriots have announced Laurence Maroney (groin) has been listed as inactive for Week 4 at Cincinnati, so Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk are expected to shoulder the load in his absence.
Analysis: Faulk is a solid late addition to Fantasy lineups in deeper leagues if you need an emergency replacement for Maroney and Morris is already scooped up. Most leagues do not allow transactions after kickoff of the first game of the week, however.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk rushed twice for 14 yards in Week 3 vs. Buffalo. He also caught five passes for 38 yards.
Analysis: Faulk is third on the depth chart at RB and doesn't figure to do enough on a regular basis to use as a Fantasy starter. For now, he's best left on the waiver wire.
News: Faulk carried once for four yards in Week 2 against the Chargers and he also reeled in one reception out of the backfield for nine yards.
Analysis: Faulk does not see enough touches in the New England offense to consider even in the deepest of Fantasy leagues heading into Week 3 against the Bills.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had one carry for 4 yards and one catch for nine yards Sunday against the Jets.
Analysis: Faulk should not be owned in the majority of Fantasy leagues and is not worth using in Week 2 against San Diego.
News: The Patriots top receiver during Friday's preseason game wasn't a wideout, but instead RB Kevin Faulk. He totaled six catches for 89 yards, with a long of 26.
Analysis: Faulk has always been a solid third-down back with the Patriots, but that is as far as his Fantasy value goes. Unless something long-term happens to Laurence Maroney or Sammy Morries, Faulk should only be used in Fantasy leagues that reward RBs for catches.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had six carries for 25 yards, two catches for 11 yards and scored on a two-point conversion against San Diego in the second round of the playoffs.
Analysis: Faulk has minimal Fantasy value in the AFC Championship Game against Indianapolis next week, but he is one of Tom Brady's favorite targets.
News: The New England Patriots will count on a trio of RBs in Corey Dillon, Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk in their playoff game against the Chargers this week. Their performance last Sunday in a 37-16 playoff win over the Jets kept New York from focusing on stopping the passing game. Maroney rushed for 69 yards, Dillon had 53 and a touchdown, and Faulk had consecutive runs of 7, 8 and 9 yards on a 15-play touchdown drive that gave the Patriots a 17-10 lead with 11 seconds left in the first half. Dillon is a power runner with 13 touchdowns and 812 yards on the ground, Maroney is elusive and strong with 745 yards rushing. Faulk is a receiving threat with 43 regular-season catches and a touchdown reception last Sunday against the Jets.
Analysis: Consider Dillon a No. 1 Fantasy RB option and Maroney a No. 2 option. Faulk should not be used unless you are running out of players in Fantasy leagues.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk (knee) is in uniform for Sunday's Wild Card game against the Jets.
Analysis: Faulk is at best a desperation Fantasy choice for the playoffs. He might get a cheap touchdown on a third down play.
News: Patriots running back Kevin Faulk could be back to face the Jets. He said Wednesday his status is day-to-day. Faulk missed last Sunday's game after hurting his knee one week earlier in a 24-21 win at Jacksonville.
Analysis: Faulk is at best a desperation Fantasy choice for the playoffs if he does indeed play.
News: Notable inactives for the Patriots-Titans game in Week 17 include: Patriots QB Vinny Testaverde (No. 3 QB), WR Bam Childress, CB Chad Scott, RB Kevin Faulk, DT Vince Wilfork and TE Benjamin Watson are active. For the Titans, CB Andre Woolfolk, RB Chris Brown, WR Jonathan Orr, TE Cooper Wallace, DE Travis LaBoy and DT Jesse Mahelona are inactive.
Analysis: Keep the inactive players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 17.
News: Patriots DB Chad Scott (back), RB Kevin Faulk (knee), DL Vince Wilfork (ankle), DL Marquise Hill (knee), DB Rashad Baker (thigh), DL Mike Wright (shoulder) and WR Brandon Childress (ankle) are questionable, while DB Ellis Hobbs (wrist), DL Richard Seymour (ankle) and DB Rodney Harrison (shoulder) are listed as probable for Week 17 at Tennessee.
Analysis: Only Wilfork, Seymour and Harrison should be used for Fantasy purposes in Week 17. Ignore the other injured players.
News: Notable Patriots players who helped bring home a win in Week 16 include: RB Kevin Faulk (8 rush yards, 12 receiving yards), FB Heath Evans (1 total yard), WR Troy Brown (44 receiving yards), TE Daniel Graham (44 receiving yards), WR Jabar Gaffney (26 receiving yards), WR Reche Caldwell (15 receiving yards), Kelvin Kight (9-yard catch) and rookie WR Chad Jackson (minus-2 receiving yards).
Analysis: Of these players, only Caldwell is worth rolling with as a No. 3 Fantasy WR at Tennessee in Week 17. The rest of the players don't accumulate enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play.
News: Notable inactives for the Patriots-Jaguars game in Week 16 include: Patriots QB Vinny Testaverde (No. 3 QB), CB Antwain Spann, DB Rashad Baker, DT Vince Wilfork, TE Ben Watson and DE Marquise Hill. RBs Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk and SS Rodney Harrison are active. For the Jaguars, WR Charles Sharon, RB Montell Owens, CB Ahmad Carroll, RB Fred Taylor, DE James Wyche, LB Jeremy Mincey and DT Tony McDaniel are inactive. Maurice Jones-Drew will start for Taylor.
Analysis: Keep the inactive players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 16.
News: Patriots DL Vince Wilfork (ankle), DL Mike Wright (shoulder), RB Kevin Faulk (knee), DB Rodney Harrison (shoulder), LB Eric Alexander (shoulder) and DB Rashad Baker (thigh) are questionable, while DB Ellis Hobbs (wrist) and DL Richard Seymour (elbow) are probable for Week 16 at Jacksonville.
Analysis: Only Seymour, Harrison and Wilfork are viable Fantasy options for Week 16, shall they play.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had four carries for 22 yards and a touchdown (11-yard run) in a Week 15 win over the Texans. He also had two catches for 46 yards and a touchdown (43-yard reception).
Analysis: Despite the two touchdowns, Faulk is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 16 at Jacksonville.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had five carries for 29 yards and two catches for 12 yards against Miami.
Analysis: Faulk has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk caught eight passes for 59 yards in Week 13 vs. Detroit.
Analysis: Faulk's eight catches were as many as WR Reche Caldwell had and led the team. Consider him a decent low-end RB reserve in reception leagues for Week 14 at Miami.
News: Notable Patriots performers from Week 12 include: RB Kevin Faulk (37 receiving yards), FB Heath Evans (8 rushing yards), WR Chad Jackson (minus-8 rushing yards), TE Daniel Graham (25-yard catch) and WR Troy Brown (13-yard catch).
Analysis: Faulk is a decent low-end RB reserve in reception leagues while Chad Jackson is worth owning in keeper leagues. Everyone else listed shouldn't be involved in Fantasy Football.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk (flu) is listed as questionable for Week 12 vs. Chicago.
Analysis: Faulk has very limited Fantasy value at this time and is not a recommended option for Week 12.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had one carry for 2 yards and one catch for 13 yards against Green Bay.
Analysis: Faulk has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: Notable Patriots players from Week 10 include: FB Heath Evans (8 rush yards), Kevin Faulk (three catches, 23 yards), WR Troy Brown (15 yards), TE Daniel Graham (6-yard catch) and WR Chad Jackson (5 yards receiving).
Analysis: Jackson is a nice flier in keeper leagues, but the rest of these players aren't reliable in standard Fantasy play. The Patriots play at Green Bay in Week 11.
News: Faulk carried four times for 24 yards and he chipped in with five grabs for 31 yards in Week 9 against Indianapolis.
Analysis: Despite the 55 total yards, Faulk is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 10 against the Jets.
News: WR Reche Caldwell (knee), WR Jabar Gaffney (hand), WR Chad Jackson (hamstring) and RB Kevin Faulk (ankle) are all active for Week 9 against the Colts.
Analysis: It appears safe to keep each of these players in the active Fantasy lineup in all larger leagues for this crucial game.
News: Kevin Faulk had two catches for 12 yards in Monday night's blowout win over the Vikings. He also had one carry for 11 yards. He was bothered by an ankle injury coming into the game but was able to give it a go.
Analysis: Faulk currently has little Fantasy value.
News: Patriots DB Ellis Hobbs (wrist), DB Eugene Wilson (hamstring), RB Kevin Faulk (ankle) and LB Don Davis (lower leg) are listed as questionable, while DB Antwain Spann (shoulder) and DB Willie Andrews (thigh) are listed as probable Week 8 at Minnesota.
Analysis: Wilson has been a big disappointment in Fantasy realms this season, but there might still be hope he turns things around. Reserve him in deep IDP leagues at this point. Hobbs, Spann, Faulk, Davis and Andrews are not viable Fantasy options at this point.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had one carry for minus-3 yards and one catch for 11 yards against the Bills.
Analysis: Faulk has minimal Fantasy value at this time.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 7 at Buffalo.
Analysis: Faulk has no Fantasy value at this time for leagues that strictly use him as a running back. He has only 30 yards on seven carries and has become more of a third-down back for the Patriots. But if your league rewards heavily for return yards, then Faulk might be worth the time of day as long as he is among the league leaders.
News: After five weeks, Patriots RB Kevin Faulk leads the NFL with a 13.5-yard average on punt returns. The team struggled in this area last season but Faulk has given the return game a boost. His returns have help set the Patriots offense up in good field position, something that didn't happen very often in 2005.
News: New England RB Kevin Faulk had one carry for minus-1 yard, one catch for 15 yards and fumbled once on a return against Miami.
Analysis: Faulk has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: RB Kevin Faulk rushed for one yard on one carry as the Patriots routed the Bengals 38-13 in Week 4. He also had 18 receiving yards.
Analysis: Faulk is not a viable Fantasy option at this point. That could change though if something were to happen to either Corey Dillon or Laurence Maroney.
News: Kevin Faulk had one carry for six yards and chipped in with six catches for 34 yards in Sunday night's loss to the Broncos. He also shares the punt return duties with Troy Brown. Faulk continues to be more of a weapon as a receiver than a runner.
Analysis: If your league rewards receptions, then Faulk has value. If you don't get points for receptions, his value is extremely limited heading into Week 4 at Cincinnati.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk rushed for three yards and no touchdowns on one carry in a Week 3 victory vs. the Jets. He also had two catches for 16 yards.
Analysis: Faulk is behind Corey Dillon and Laurence Maroney on the depth chart. He has no Fantasy value.
News: Patriots backup RB Kevin Faulk had a 17-yard TD reception against the Bills. He also ran three times for 21 yards.
Analysis: Faulk is behind Corey Dillon and Laurence Maroney on the depth chart. He has no Fantasy value despite the TD reception.
News: Faulk had two carries for 21 yards and three receptions for 34 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Faulk, basically a forgotten man with more high-profile running backs in Corey Dillon and rookie Laurence Maroney ahead of him, remains a decent third-down back who is valuable to Fantasy owners in leagues which reward points per reception.
News: Veteran Corey Dillon and rookie first-round pick Laurence Maroney have been hogging the spotlight at running back so far. That's OK with Kevin Faulk, who enters his eighth season confident in his worth as a valuable reserve, particularly one who can aid the passing game. Despite missing half the season with a foot injury, Faulk had 29 receptions a year ago. If he can equal that production in 2006, he'll break Tony Collins' franchise record for career catches by a running back. Collins had 261 from 1981-87. Faulk, a Patriot since 1999, has 233. Faulk had a 17-yard reception against the Falcons.
Analysis: During the off-season, Faulk was inducted into the LSU Hall of Fame. "It was a very emotional night for me," said Faulk, who ended his college career ranked fifth in NCAA history with 6,833 career all-purpose yards and 53 total touchdowns. "As a matter of fact, I was watching the NFL Hall of Fame (inductions) and it kind of brought back memories (of the LSU ceremony)." Faulk is a good third-down back and is actually a decent option in leagues that reward points for receptions. Still, he's only a good Fantasy pick if you also select whomever he's backing up.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk caught 29 passes for 260 yards with 145 rushing yards. He played in eight games, starting two. Faulk's limit touches were because of a broken leg that caused him to miss eight contests.
Analysis: Faulk is a good third-down back and is actually a decent option in leagues that reward points for receptions. Still, he's only a good Fantasy pick if you also select whomever he's backing up.
News: Pats backup RB Kevin Faulk didn't play at Denver in Week 6 (he was hurt), but the starting RB in that game, Patrick Pass, totaled 153 yards and a touchdown, doing a lot of running and receiving (89 yards through the air). Faulk won't get near that total, but he could get upwards of 60 yards receiving in the game.
Analysis: Short-area passing could be a part of the Patriots' gameplan at Denver. Consider Faulk if you need an emergency RB option in the Divisional Playoffs.
News: Corey Dillon (calf) was on the inactive list for Week 17. Kevin Faulk will start in his place at running back for the Patriots.
Analysis: The Patriots just want to be extra cautious with Dillon heading into the playoffs. Don't rely on Kevin Faulk too heavily for your championship game, but he could make a great last-second desperation replacement.
News: Kevin Faulk carried 10 times for 38 yards in Week 16 at N.Y. Jets and he added four receptions for 19 yards.
Analysis: Who would have thought there would be a day when Kevin would be the most productive Faulk from a Fantasy perspective with Marshall still active in the league?
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk had 18 rushing yards and eight receiving yards vs. Tampa Bay in Week 15.
Analysis: Faulk is merely insurance for Corey Dillon at this point. If you don't have Dillon on your team, you shouldn't have Faulk either.
News: Kevin Faulk (foot) is questionable for Week 15 vs. Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Faulk is not recommended even if he's active in Week 15 unless Corey Dillon sits out.
News: Patriots RB Kevin Faulk rushed for 14 yards but caught a team-high six passes for 71 yards at Buffalo in Week 14.
Analysis: Faulk has value in leagues that count receptions since he gets a bunch of catches. He should get around 10 total touches vs. Tampa Bay in Week 15, and is an excellent backup for Corey Dillon.
News: The Globe reports the New England Patriots have downgraded Patrick Pass (hamstring) and Heath Evans (shoulder) to out for Week 14. It appears the Patriots are secure with Corey Dillon's injured calf and will have Kevin Faulk (foot) back in the mix as well at Buffalo.
Analysis: At this point it appears Dillon is back at close to 100 percent, so Faulk is no better than insurance for his veteran teammate.
News: According to the Boston Globe, Kevin Faulk (ankle) isn't expected to play this Sunday.
Analysis: Faulk missed practice all week. Expect Heath Evans and Patrick Pass to pick up a few carries, but Corey Dillon will get the brunt of the load.

News: WFAN reports Corey Dillon (calf) will start in Week 13 against the N.Y. Jets. He should see most of the carries for New England. Kevin Faulk (foot) might be inactive again.

News: According to the Boston Globe, Corey Dillon and Kevin Faulk were present at practice for the second straight day, a sign they responded well to their first practice on Wednesday.
Analysis: Dillon has indicated that he hopes to play in Week 13, but has also stated that he won't return to action until he is 100 percent. Keep tabs on his status throughout the week. If Dillon and Faulk return, Patrick Pass and Heath Evans will no longer have any Fantasy value. Faulk does not have much value unless he is able to pick up some extra carries.
News: The Globe reports Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that Kevin Faulk (foot) would be "put out there (at practice Wednesday) and we’ll see how it goes."
Analysis: Faulk could see a role in the offense if he can return and Corey Dillon (calf) is still out. Keep tabs on his status throughout the week.
News: According to the Boston Globe, Kevin Faulk has been ruled out for Week 12 at Kansas City.
Analysis: Faulk should not be on any Fantasy roster in any format.
News: Kevin Faulk (foot) has been upgraded from out to doubtful for Week 11. LT Matt Light was also upgraded to doubtful. "We upgraded them because their conditions improved," head coach Bill Belichick said. "They had trouble walking a few weeks ago. Now they're past that point. So, it's definitely improved."
Analysis: Faulk is worth a waiver-wire add in deeper leagues due to the uncertain status Corey Dillon and Patrick Pass, who themselves are both questionable.
News: According to reports, Patriots RB Kevin Faulk has an injured leg and will miss as much as two months.

The whole No. 1-No. 2 thing is a lot bigger thing to [the media] than it is to me. I think we're going to have good production from that position. How exactly that will come, I don't know. I think we have depth at that position. I don't feel badly if any of those guys have the ball in their hands," said Belichick.

Analysis: Faulk got more carries than Antowain Smith, but he should only be used as a "flex" player or bye week replacement.

He said both Faulk and Antowain Smith will play in Thursday's preseason game, but he doesn't know how much. "As I've said throughout training camp, I think they're both going to play and they're both going to be productive players who will help us."
Analysis: Because of the presence of Larry Centers as a pass-catching back, Faulk might play more often on first and second downs this year. He is worth a roster spot as a Fantasy reserve, but he is not strong enough to be a feature back and should only be counted on as a bye week filler.

Analysis:
News: Faulk will likely be splitting time with both J.R. Redmond and Raymont Harris for the remainder of the season, which is not the scenario Fantasy owners are looking for at this time of the year. There is only one Faulk in the NFL who deserves to start in your Fantasy playoffs - and he plays in St. Louis.
Analysis:
News: Faulk did the majority of the work in the backfield against Kansas City, carrying the ball 22 times for 52 yards and a touchdown. The increased playing time, however, may be caused by a lack of talent at the position more than anything else. Analysis:
News: Faulk has apparently been dropped down to the Patriots' number three option out of the backfield. With starter J.R. Redmond out of last week's game against the Bengals, Faulk was passed over for rookie tailback Patrick Pass. Keep Faulk on your bench this week - and possibly look to pick up Pass if Faulk continues to lose playing time.

Analysis:
News: Faulk will be the Patriots running back on opening day. The Pats brought in Raymont Harris during the offseason but Faulk beat him out in the preseason and Harris was cut. Faulk looked great in the preseason, breaking long TD runs, but he did the same thing last year. He started two games last season and didn't fare to well. Faulk gained only 227 yards last season and rushed for one TD. If you are thirsty for a Fantasy running back and he's available pick him up but use him sparingly.
Analysis:
News: Faulk ran for 76 yards on three carries Sunday, including a 58-yard TD run in the first quarter. Faulk has played well in the preseason but has not taken sole possession of the starting running back job yet.

News: QB Drew Bledsoe has been impressed with Faulk's performance so far in training camp. "It looks like he's ready to step into that role and maybe be a full-time back for us," Bledsoe told the Boston Globe . "He's really doing a good job." If Faulk does step into the starting roster his Fantasy value will increase, but he still has to establish himself as a running back. Hold off on picking Faulk for your Fantasy team until his position on the depth chart is determined.

Analysis:
News: The latest reports from New England are that the Patriots intend to work rookie RB Kevin Faulk into the offense much more this Sunday. Analysis:
News: Faulk, who has missed two games with an ankle injury, is practicing again, and should work as both a kick returner and running back this week, according to the Boston Globe. Terry Allen is still expected to get the majority of the carries, but Faulk could get a few reps to keep Allen fresh.
Analysis:
News: Patriots rookie RB Kevin Faulk hasn't yet recovered sufficiently from his ankle sprain to play this week. Unless he dramatically improves in Friday's practice, it is unlikely that he will suit up on Sunday. Look for Lamont Warren to backup Terry Allen Sunday against the Browns.
