News: The Chiefs have reached a one-year agreement with DL Kelly Gregg on Saturday.
Analysis: Gregg was cut by the Ravens. Gregg used to be a very good run-stopping nose tackle, but he is getting up there in age and will have limited Fantasy appeal on Draft Day.
News: Multiple sources report the Ravens intend to cut nose tackle Kelly Gregg when teams can begin waiving players on Thursday.
Analysis: Gregg is scheduled to earn $3.5 million this season. He could always come back at a reduced price, but Gregg is still one of those players far more important to his team's cause than Fantasy owners. He used to be a very good run-stopping nose tackle, but he is getting up there in age and will have limited Fantasy appeal on Draft Day.
News: Ravens DL Gregg Kelly was credited with just four tackles in Week 4 at Pittsburgh. He has yet to record a sack through the first month of the season.
Analysis: Gregg recorded 63 tackles a year ago, but only three sacks. Don't expect that to change suddenly. He is more a reserve option in IDP formats for now.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg managed five tackles (two solo) in Week 2 against the Bengals. He has seven tackles and no sacks in two games.
Analysis: Gregg has been able to hold off some emerging talent at defensive tackle because he still gets great leverage at the line despite being a 12-year veteran. However, Gregg is better against the run than the pass, so he won't get many sacks. He remains a low-end Fantasy start in IDP leagues.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg combined for just two tackles against the Jets in Week 1. He had one solo tackle in the 10-9 win.
Analysis: Gregg is a mountain of a defensive tackle and is a handful for any offensive line. He recorded 63 tackles a year ago but only three sacks. Despite his slow performance on Monday night, Fantasy owners should continue to view Gregg as a low-end Fantasy DL for Week 2 against the Bengals.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg has spent the preseason holding off players like Brandon McKinney, Terrence Cody, Kelly Talavou and Arthur Jones for playing time, but at the same time using his knowledge of the game to tutor the younger talent. Gregg will turn 34 years old this season and is battling Father Time, but defensive line coach Clarence Brooks said there is still a spot for Gregg in a young man's NFL. "Because he has a very, very high football IQ, he can go out and figure some things out beforehand, and I think that's only helped him be a lot more effective," Brooks told the Baltimore Sun. "He really understands what the opponent is trying to do to him. I think now, he's able to put himself in the right position to use the skills that he has to make some plays."
Analysis: Gregg is less than two years removed from microfracture surgery on his left knee that sidelined him the entire 2008 season. Still, he has been in the top four in tackles in six of the past seven seasons for the Ravens and uses good footing, balance and leverage to shoot past offensive lineman. "He's always been that guy," fellow lineman Haloti Ngata said. "I've always gone to him for advice on technique. He's one of the best technicians that I've ever been around and ever seen on a football field. Just to have him and be around him has definitely helped me and my game. He's a great leader, too." While Gregg is easily a threat for 60-plus tackles, the fact he doesn't get many sacks holds him back in Fantasy. He is at best a low-end Fantasy DL.
News: The Ravens had several defenders play well Sunday against Chicago. LB Ray Lewis had nine tackles and a sack. LB Kelly Gregg had four tackles and a sack. DL Haloti Ngata had four tackles, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. LB Jarret Johnson had three tackles and an interception. DB Dawan Landry had three tackles and a forced fumble. LB Terrell Suggs had five tackles. DB Domonique Foxworth had four tackles and two interceptions. DB Frank Walker had one tackle and an interception.
Analysis: The Ravens have some solid Fantasy options in IDP leagues. Plan on using your regular options in Week 16 at the Steelers.
News: Notable Ravens defenders from Week 12 include: LB Ray Lewis (nine total tackles), DB Dawan Landry, DL Dwan Edwards and DL Kelly Gregg (eight total tackles each) and LB Paul Kruger (two total tackles, interception).
Analysis: Of these defenders, only Landry and Lewis warrant use in Fantasy play. The Ravens play at the Packers in Week 13.
News: In the Ravens' Week 1 win vs. the Chiefs, defenders Jarret Johnson (two sacks, three total tackles), DT Kelly Gregg (six total tackles), LB Ray Lewis (six total tackles) and DB Ed Reed (five total tackles) all contributed. DL Trevor Pryce also had a sack, a tackle and a forced fumble.
Analysis: Of these players, Lewis and Reed remain prominent options in IDP leagues. Johnson has all sorts of potential playing in this defense while Pryce typically won't put up stats like this on a daily basis. The Ravens play at the Chargers in Week 2.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports that Kelly Gregg returned to practice Monday. Gregg missed last season due to microfracture surgery on his left knee. "It's just one of those deals. I've got to get out there and do a little work. They're starting to call me Mr. Glass around here."
Analysis: Gregg is an important part of the Ravens defense, but he's not much for stats. Look for pass-rushing defensive ends for DL help in Fantasy.
News: Baltimore DT Kelly Gregg might be sidelined for an extended stretch because of a shoulder injury. Gregg was injured against the New York Jets in Monday's preseason game. He had an MRI on Tuesday that revealed no damage, but the Ravens plan to play in safe. "We had a little bit of a scare, I guess you could say," Harbaugh said. "We weren't exactly sure what it was. It turned out to be kind of a nagging deal. As you get older, those things get a little sore. He's going to be OK. We're going to be smart with him for the rest of the preseason."
Analysis: Gregg is an important part of the Ravens defense, but he's not much for stats. Look for pass-rushing defensive ends for DL help in Fantasy.
News: CBSSports.com RapidReport writer Jon Gallo reports from Ravens camp that the team's coaching staff reports that NT Kelly Gregg, who was sidelined last season because he was recovering from knee surgery, played well during the first practice. The Ravens are confident he has made a full recovery.
Analysis: Gregg is an important part of the Ravens defense, but he's not much for stats. Look for pass-rushing defensive ends for DL help in Fantasy.
News: Baltimore Ravens nose guard Kelly Gregg will undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee Tuesday, according to his agent. Gregg has not played this season because of the troublesome knee. His agent, Jack Bechta, said Monday night the knee was not responding to treatment, and that the operation will probably sideline the veteran until next May or June. Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery. The Ravens had no immediate comment Monday night. Gregg underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on his left knee in early August after getting hurt in training camp in late July. He has been dealing with a hole in his cartilage that has caused significant pain and discomfort. "It's a very unusual injury from what I'm told," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said last week.
Analysis: Gregg had been receiving cortisone shots to promote the healing process as well as injecting a fluid that simulates the natural cartilage in the knee. When Gregg underwent surgery in August, doctors removed scar tissue from his knee and smoothed out a groove in the bone. Before this season, Gregg has played in every game for the Ravens since 2004. Justin Bannan, who is starting in Gregg's place, intercepted a pass in Baltimore's 13-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Gregg is one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL when healthy, but he is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy DL. It's now only a matter of time before he goes on IR, so drop him in all Fantasy formats.
News: Notable inactives for the Titans-Ravens Week 5 game include: Titans WR Paul Williams, WR Justin Gage, DB Reynaldo Hill, RB Chris Henry, DL William Hayes and DL Kevin Vickerson. For the Ravens, CB Samari Rolle, QB Troy Smith, WR Marcus Smith, DT Kelly Gregg, FS Dawan Landry and DB Derrick Martin are inactive.
Analysis: Brandon Jones will start in place of Justin Gage for the Titans. For the Ravens, Fabian Washington will start for Samari Rolle and Jim Leonhard will start for Dawan Landry. Also, Willis McGahee is active and starting according to the Ravens' media relations team.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg (knee) has been ruled out for Week 5 vs. Tennessee. Gregg has yet to play a game in 2008 because of injury.
Analysis: Gregg has been practicing some and is getting closer to returning, but the Ravens still don't know when that will be. Gregg is one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, but by the nature of the position, he has minimal Fantasy value when healthy.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg (knee) is inactive for a third straight game to begin the season Week 4 at Pittsburgh. DB Samari Rolle, DB Evan Oglesby, DB Dawan Landry, LB Nick Greisen and QB Troy Smith are also inactive.
Analysis: Gregg is one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, but by the nature of the position, he has minimal Fantasy value when healthy. None of these other players contributes enough when active to have Fantasy appeal.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg (knee) has been ruled out for Week 4 at Pittsburgh. Gregg will miss a fourth straight game and it's uncertain on when he will play again.
Analysis: Gregg is one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, but has minimal Fantasy value when healthy. Keep him reserved in all Fantasy formats Week 4.
News: Baltimore listed the following players as being inactive Week 3 against Cleveland: QB Troy Smith (3rd), WR Yamon Figurs, DB Evan Oglesby, DB Fabian Washington, LB Nick Greisen and NT Kelly Gregg.
Analysis: Most of these players are nothing more than reserves or minor contributors for the Ravens. They have little to no Fantasy value.
News: Ravens NG Kelly Gregg will remain sidelined for at least two more weeks with cartilage problems in his surgically repaired left knee, coach John Harbaugh said Friday. Gregg underwent surgery in August, but wasn't able to play during the preseason or the season opener. "What it amounts to is he's got kind of a hole in his cartilage that rubs bone to bone, and because of that he's actually got a real sensitive spot on his bone," Harbaugh said. "When he unloads on a block, that's when he feels the pain. It's almost like you've got a scab on your bone, and he tears the scab off." Gregg will miss Sunday's game against Cleveland and next week's trip to Pittsburgh. Then, Gregg will be week to week. "We just have to take it as we go after that point," Harbaugh said. Justin Bannan will continue to start in Gregg's place. "We're going to miss Kelly," defensive tackle Haloti Ngata said.
Analysis: Keep Gregg reserved in all IDP leagues for now, and he has minimal Fantasy value when healthy. The Ravens DST is still worth starting in Week 3 against the Browns even without Gregg.
News: The Baltimore Ravens-Houston Texans game was rescheduled to Nov. 9 after Reliant Stadium was severely damaged by Hurricane Ike, meaning both teams will not play in Week 2. The new date also affects the Cincinnati Bengals' schedule. Houston was originally scheduled to play the Bengals on Nov. 9. Now, those teams will play on Oct. 26 and Cincinnati will take its bye week on Nov. 9, when the Texans now play the Ravens.
Analysis: It's all a little confusing, but basically Fantasy owners need to treat Week 2 as a bye week for the Texans and Ravens. So if you have any players active from either team, get them reserved immediately. Houston and Baltimore will not have another bye week the rest of the way. The Ravens will next play Cleveland at home in Week 3, giving players like Kelly Gregg extra time to heal. He had been listed as doubtful for Week 2, so there's a silver lining here for him.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg (knee) is listed as doubtful for Week 2 at Houston, although, the team hopes he will be able to play Monday. Gregg practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday before sitting out the next two days. "I thought (Gregg) looked great to me," defensive coordinator Rex Ryan told NFL.com Thursday. "His technique is probably better than everybody else's, like it normally is. He looked good to me."
Analysis: Gregg is one of the better overall defensive tackles in the NFL and makes the Ravens defense that much better when healthy. However, he doesn't rack up a lot of Fantasy worthy stats and is merely a low-end option when healthy.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens DL Kelly Gregg will test his surgically repaired left knee Wednesday and wants to play in Week 2 at Houston. "We'll put some pads on this week and see how she feels, and hopefully, I'll get out there," Gregg said. "I thought there might be a chance (to play against the Bengals), but I didn't get out there with pads last week. So no reason to risk it with the way the guys played."
Analysis: Gregg doesn't produce enough stats to warrant use in anything but the deepest of IDP Fantasy leagues.
News: Ravens QB Troy Smith, DB Evan Oglesby, LB Tavares Gooden, WR Marcus Smith and DL Kelly Gregg are all inactive for Week 1 vs. Cincinnati.
Analysis: The Ravens are without two potential starters Week 1 -- Smith and Gregg -- because of injuries and ailments. The remaining inactive players have no Fantasy value when playing. Keep all these players reserved Week 1.
News: Ravens FS Ed Reed (neck) and DT Kelly Gregg (knee) were on the team's Friday injury report. Reed was listed as questionable while Gregg was listed as doubtful. Both were limited in practice on Friday.
Analysis: Gregg doesn't produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use, but Reed has the potential to be a stat monger when he's on the field. Because he's banged up, consider him no better than a low-end No. 3 Fantasy DB for Week 1.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg (knee) did not practice Wednesday and is listed as questionable for Week 1 against Cincinnati. Gregg had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee during training camp
Analysis: Gregg is a low-end DL in IDP leagues and should not be used in Week 1 against the Bengals because he's banged up.
News:Ravens coach John Harbaugh wouldn't say Monday whether DT Kelly Gregg, who recently had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, would play in the team's final two preseason games. "Kelly right now is getting his rehab, and he'll be back for the Cincinnati game for sure," Harbaugh said in the Baltimore Sun, referring to the team's regular-season opener against the Bengals on Sept.7. "I wouldn't make any statement before that."
Analysis: Gregg is a low-end DL in IDP leagues but is worth drafting with a late-round pick if healthy. Keep an eye on his progress and hope he can return in time for the start of the season, but for now ignore him in most drafts.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg had 80 tackles (56 solo) in 2007 with three sacks and one fumble recovery. He played in all 16 games and was a solid run stuffer.
Analysis: Gregg played well and averages about 60 tackles a season, which is a high number for an interior defensive lineman. Look for Gregg to continue this type of production and consider him a solid bye-week replacement and injury replacement in IDP leagues in 2008.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg led his team with a career-high 11 tackles and grabbed his third sack of the season in Baltimore's 22-16 overtime loss to the Dolphins in Week 15.
Analysis: Gregg is a low-end Fantasy DL in IDP leagues and not worth starting in Week 16 against the Seattle, despite his nice outing on Sunday.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg (thigh) is listed as probable for Week 15 at Miami. He took full practice reps Thursday and Friday after limited work on Wednesday. Gregg, who has 61 tackles and two sacks, has yet to miss a game this season.
Analysis: Gregg is one of the top defensive tackles in the NFL and is having a solid season stat-wise. Still, because he doesn't rack up a lot sacks, he remains just a low-end Fantasy DL. It appears as though he is on track to face the Dolphins.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg (thigh) went through limited practice reps Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 15 at Miami.
Continue to track his progress.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg had four tackles Sunday against Cleveland.
Analysis: Gregg is a low-end DL in IDP leagues and is only worth starting in deep leagues at San Diego.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg had seven tackles Sunday against the Bengals.
Analysis: Consider Gregg a low-end DL in IDP leagues and start him in deeper leagues in Week 11 against the Browns.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg totaled seven tackles (four solo) and one sack during a Week 6 win over the Rams. He now has 25 tackles and two sacks in six games.
Analysis: Gregg is an excellent defensive tackle, but he doesn't usually fill the stat sheet and that hurts his Fantasy value. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy DL.
News: DL Kelly Gregg (six tackles), LB Ray Lewis (six tackles), LB Bart Scott (six tackles), DL Terrell Suggs (five tackles), LB Jarret Johnson (four tackles) and DL Haloti Ngata (four tackles) led the way defensively for the Ravens in their 9-7 win over the 49ers in Week 5.
Analysis: Lewis, Suggs and Scott are all solid IDP options at their respective positions and will be great starts in Week 6 against the Rams.
News: LB Bart Scott (eight tackles), SS Dawan Landry (seven tackles), LB Ray Lewis (six tackles), NT Kelly Gregg (five tackles), LB Jarret Johnson (four tackles) and LB Terrell Suggs (four tackles) all made nice contributions in the Ravens' 27-13 loss to the Browns in Week 4.
Analysis: Scott, Lewis, and Suggs are all quality starts in IDP leagues, while Landry and Johnson have very minimal Fantasy value. The Ravens play at San Francisco in Week 5.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens DT Kelly Gregg signed a four-year extension that keeps him with the club through 2011. Gregg is a nose tackle who anchors the defensive line in an attempt to slow down the opposing rushing game.
Analysis: Despite losing Adalius Thomas this offseason, the Ravens defense remains one of the best in the league. Consider them with a middle- to late-round pick in standard Fantasy drafts in 2007. Gregg doesn't put up enough stats to warrant use in IDP leagues.
News: The Ravens DST held the Steelers to seven points with two interceptions, a fumble recovery and five sacks. DB Ed Reed had two tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. DB Corey Ivy had four tackles and a sack. DB Dawan Landry had two tackles, a sack and an interception. LB Ray Lewis had four tackles and a half-sack. DL Haloti Ngata had six tackles and a sack. DL Terrell Suggs had three tackles and a half-sack. DL Adalius Thomas had five tackles and a half-sack. DL Kelly Gregg had three tackles and a half-sack.
Analysis: Consider the Ravens a No. 1 option for Week 17 against Buffalo and use all regular IDP players.
News: The Ravens defense continued their dominance over the league in Week 15 by shutting down the Browns. They did give up 17 points, but only allowed 236 yards. Also, the Ravens came up with six sacks (Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Trevor Pryce 2, Bart Scott, Kelly Gregg 1/2 and Adalius Thomas 1/2) and two interceptions (Chris McAlister and Dawan Landry).
Analysis: The Ravens are one of the top Fantasy DST options and should be a must-start every week. They play the Steelers in Week 16. Also, all of the Ravens individual defensive stars in Week 15 are solid options in IDP leagues. Feel free to use them Week 16.
News: Ravens DL Kelly Gregg (foot) has been upgraded from questionable to probable for Week 11 vs. Atlanta.
Analysis: Gregg gets a decent amount of tackles for a Fantasy DL, and if that suits your team, then consider him a solid start.
News: Ravens LB Mike Smith (shoulder) is out, while DL Kelly Gregg (foot), LB Adalius Thomas (ankle) and LB Ray Lewis (back) are listed as questionable for Week 11 vs. Atlanta. None of these players practiced on Wednesday.
Analysis: It is still uncertain whether Lewis will be able to give it a go on Sunday, so you will have to check back with us later in the week for further updates on his playing status. He and Thomas are must-start Fantasy players in IDP leagues, if active. Gregg is also a solid Fantasy DL, while Smith shouldn't be bothered with.
News: Ravens LB Bart Scott (15 total tackles, interception), LB Ray Lewis (14 total tackles), safety Ed Reed (seven total tackles, safety) and DL Kelly Gregg (eight total tackles) contributed to the team's 16-13 win vs. San Diego in Week 4.
Analysis: Ray Lewis and Ed Reed remain must-start Fantasy players weekly. Bart Scott is a reliable No. 3 Fantasy LB while Gregg is a good reserve DL in deeper leagues.
News: Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Kelly Gregg (knee)has been ruled out for Week 2.
Analysis: The Pittsburgh Steelers play at the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2. Gregg has very little Fantasy value.
