Porter says that after he left Pittsburgh, three years with Miami taught him that the grass "is not always greener" on the other side. Porter was arrested on March 27 in a fast-food parking lot in Bakersfield.

He and a passenger were arrested. The 11-year veteran recently signed with the Arizona Cardinals. He also has played for Pittsburgh and Miami.
Cardinals add LB Porter
(3/22/2010) Four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter agreed to a three-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday. Porter, entering his 12th season, spent the past three with the Miami Dolphins, who released him in March. He played the first eight years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Porter said the familiarity with the coaches was a big reason he was considering Arizona. He also wanted to be relatively near his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif. "I was looking to play for a West Coast team and I know everything Whiz is about," Porter said at the time. "He had me over there in Pittsburgh for eight years so I don't have to be blindsided by some new coaches and trying to wonder how I fit. I know exactly how I fit. I know how he would try and use me if I was here and I am just trying to be a piece to the puzzle that's already there."

Porter mum on benching
(11/16/2009) Back from a benching, Joey Porter lacked his usual bluster. The Miami Dolphins' loquacious linebacker practiced Monday but had little to say about sitting out Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. He was listed as inactive because of a "coach's decision," and the Dolphins haven't elaborated on the reason for the demotion. "It was a coach's decision," Porter said. "There's nothing else to talk about." Porter has endured a frustrating season, and it's unclear whether his role will be reduced in Thursday's game at Carolina. Slowed much of this year by a sore right knee and hamstring, he has only 2 1/2 sacks after leading the AFC with 17 1/2 last year. "It's never about me," he said. "It was proven last week it's not about me. As long as we're winning, everything will take care of itself. I learned that a long time ago. It's not about what I'm doing."
(11/14/2009) Miami linebacker Joey Porter has been ruled out of the Dolphins' game against Tampa Bay because of a coach's decision. The Dolphins didn't give any information on Saturday about the reason for the move by coach Tony Sparano ahead of Sunday's home game. Porter sat out practice for the third day in a row Friday and is the only player on the Dolphins' injury report. Whether he plays will be a game-time decision, coach Tony Sparano said. The Pro Bowl linebacker has missed six games in his 11-year career and was unable to finish last Sunday's game at San Diego when his right hamstring tightened. "In this situation, I'm just waiting," Porter said. "I look at myself as a competitive guy and warrior. If there's any way I can be on the field, I'm going to be on the field. If I can play 80 percent, or whatever the situation may be, hurt or whatever, I'll play. That's just how I go. I don't miss games that I can play in."
Porter misses practice

"He's going to want to play," Sparano said. "I always give him the benefit of the doubt." Porter was also bothered by the injury last week and unable to finish Sunday's game at San Diego, although he played well and had a sack. "We got a bunch of good plays out of Joey," Sparano said. "Joey is that way. He's never going to want to miss a game." Porter last missed a game in 2006. He would likely be replaced by Charlie Anderson, who has six career starts.

"I kept his reps down a little bit. Justin was limited as well, but he did a little bit more."

A year ago, the outspoken linebacker was considered one of the worst free-agent signings in NFL history. It is unlikely he will see much if any playing time in Thursday night's preseason finale at New Orleans. "If its not one thing it's another. It's been [the back] then something else.
