Carl Nicks, Bucs part ways

(7/25/2014) Carl Nicks and the Buccaneers have agreed to an "amicable" injury settlement, ending the guard's tenure with the team, FOX Sports reports. Nicks developed turf toe two years ago and it ended up becoming a complicated problem that forced him to miss all but two games of the 2013 season. 

Nicks said in a statement that he's going to "step away from the game."

(7/24/2014) Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith said Thursday that guard Carl Nicks has been excused from the start of training camp. Per the Tampa Tribune, Smith is not sure when Nicks will be back with the team. Nicks has battled a toe injury that kept him out of action in 2013 but was cleared to play earlier this week.

(7/22/2014) Buccaneers guard Carl Nicks has been cleared for the start of training camp, reports the Tampa Tribune. Nicks' lingering toe injury is still a concern, however.

"Nicks has been cleared, but his future depends on how much pain he can tolerate," the paper said. "He says he can handle a lot."

Nicks missed 23 games the past two seasons with toe and foot injuries.

(4/22/2014) Even though guard Carl Nicks has made "progress" this offseason according to coach Lovie Smith, the veteran told the Tampa Bay Times that he was not going to participate in minicamp but that his goal is to be ready to roll for training camp in July. Nicks has missed 23 games with left toe and foot injuries since signing with the Buccaneers in 2012.

(3/24/2014) The Buccaneers are optimistic that guard Carl Nicks, who's been hampered by a toe problem, will participate in OTAs next month, reports ESPN.com. Nicks was limited to two games last year.

“He’s moving along pretty good,’’ general manager Jason Licht told the website. “So far, we’ve been pleased with his progression. He’s continuing the rehab and we’ll see where that goes.’’

Tampa Bay traded center/guard Jeremy Zuttah to the Ravens on Sunday, an indication the Bucs believe Nicks will be ready.

(10/23/2013) The Buccaneers released a long injury report for Thursday's game against Carolina. Guard Carl Nicks (foot) and running back Jeff Demps (groin) have been ruled out along with running back Doug Martin (shoulder). 

Safety Dashon Goldson (knee) and wideout Chris Owusu (foot) are questionable, along with receiver Mike Williams (hamstring).

The probables include corner Michael Adams (knee), safety Mark Barron (hip), defensive end Da'Quan Bowers (toe), tight end Tom Crabtree (ankle), guard Davin Joseph (knee), defensive lineman Akeem Spence (wrist) and safety Keith Tandy (concussion).
