Joe Looney taking advantage of Alex Boone's holdout

(7/29/2014) 49ers guard Joe Looney is working with the first team while Alex Boone holds out for a better contract. According to CSNBayArea.com, Looney's performance could affect how the team handles Boone's holdout.

"I’m approaching training camp as a time to compete and get better, and I want to show the coaches I’m getting better every day," Looney said. "Alex Boone is a hell of a player and a hell of a guy, and him being gone is his business. But watching him on film every day, I want to come in and do a hell of a job like he does."

Coach Jim Harbaugh praised Looney's performance so far.

Rogers attempted to practice throughout the week, but was questionable. He will not play. The other six players are healthy scratches.

(11/10/2013) Nearly all who were injured have been cleared to play Sunday by the 49ers against Carolina. The two exceptions on the inactive list, coincidentally, are both named Quinton. They are defensive lineman Quinton Dial (ankle) and wide receiver Quinton Patton (foot).

The healthy scratches are quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, defensive tackle Tank Carradine, guard Joe Looney, wide receiver Kassim Osgood and cornerback Eric Wright.

Joe Looney's low block ruled legal

(8/28/2013) 49ers guard Joe Looney will not be fined for his low block on Vikings defensive tackle Kevin Williams, which left Williams with a hyperextended knee and a significant bone bruise, reports CSNBayArea.com. The league ruled the hit was legal.

"I didn't try to take a dirty cheap shot at him," Looney said. "I was just trying to finish my block. I meant no harm by the block at all."
