"The tunnel was dark for me for a long time, but I stayed positive and Steelers Nation stayed behind me," said Spence, who shredded his left knee in a 2012 preseason game and dislocated his knee cap while also sustaining nerve damage. "I finally get to get some good quality reps on defense."

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8/25/2014) Steelers linebacker Sean Spence is expected to sit out the team's final preseason game while recovering from a sprained knee ligament, ESPN.com reports.

"It's not a very serious injury. I should be good," Spence said. "I'm going to sit out this week and try to give it a go next week."

Spence hopes to be ready for the start of the regular season Sept. 7.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(8/22/2014) A PCL injury to Steelers linebacker Sean Spence is considered mild, per Steelers Depot. Spence sustained the injury in the Thursday night preseason game against Philadelphia.

The third-round pick in the 2012 draft has yet to play a down for Pittsburgh.

Sean Spence returning to Steelers workouts

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/6/2014) Steelers 2012 draft pick Sean Spence has yet to play in an NFL regular-season game after a major knee injury forced him to miss his rookie year and the rehab from it along with a broken finger cost him his second season. But he has a clean bill of health according to the official team website and will participate in full workouts when OTAs begin in May.

"He's healthy and working," coach Mike Tomlin said according to the official team website. "... I don't think that we'll start from scratch. These haven't been empty days for him since he's been here with the rehabilitation process and what he's been able to do in terms of learning our system of football. I'm not going to assume that he's starting from ground zero."

Steelers hopeful for Sean Spence return

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/12/2014) The Steelers plan to have linebacker Sean Spence in training camp and have some hope of him contributing after his career was in jeopardy.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Spence had "one great day of practice" while on the PUP list last year, which made Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert reasonably optimistic. Colbert quickly added that it would be naive of the team to think Spence is done with his rehab and ready for football.

Spence suffered a torn ACL, LCL and a dislocated kneecap in a gruesome moment during a preseason game in 2012. He has yet to play in an NFL game.

Sean Spence sent to season-ending IR

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/6/2013) Steelers linebacker Sean Spence has been placed on season-ending IR with a knee injury. He had practiced a bit in mid-October, but the team determined he could not return to game action as a viable option in 2013. He has not played since sustaining the injury in the final preseason game in 2012.

Sean Spence practicing again, but still on PUP list

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/16/2013) Steelers linebacker Sean Spence is still on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, but he was able to perform on Wednesday. He practiced for the first time since incurring what looked like it could be a career-ending knee injury in the final 2012 preseason game.

Spence will be evaluated by the Steelers for the next three weeks to determine whether he should be placed on season-ending IR or added to their 53-man roster. The third-round selection in the 2012 draft has yet to play in an NFL regular season game.

Coach feels Sean Spence could play this season

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/15/2013) Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday linebacker Sean Spence (knee) will come off the PUP list and practice in a limited capacity this week. Tomlin added it's possible Spence, who is working his way back from a major knee injury, could play in 2013.

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/26/2013) In addition to tight end Heath Miller, the Steelers placed linebacker Sean Spence, defensive lineman Alameda Ta'amu and tight end David Johnson on the PUP list to begin training camp.

Tomlin optimistic on Spence

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/6/2013) After Steelers linebacker coach Keith Butler said it would be "miraculous" if Sean Spence ever played again last week, coach Mike Tomlin had a rosier outlook on his linebacker's future. "All the rehab is going to according to plan," Tomlin said according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "No news there. I did hear the opinion regarding Spence. My opinion differs. I think he'll have a full recovery. But now you have two opinions, neither of which are expert medical opinions, so do with it what you wish."

Spence's career may be over

by Adam Moore | CBSSports.com
(4/29/2013) Steelers linebacker coach Keith Butler told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that it would be a "miracle" if linebacker Sean Spence played football again. Spence, who tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee as well as suffered nerve damage in the same leg last August, will be carried on the team's injured reserve list this season in the hopes he can come back by 2014.
