Steelers finish reducing roster

News: The Steelers continued trimming their roster Friday in preparation for the regular season and released the following players: defensive backs Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith, Terrence Frederick and Josh Victorian; linebackers Brandon Hicks and Marshall McFadden; defensive linemen Corbin Bryant, Ikponmwosa Igbinosun and Jake Stoller; quarterback Jerrod Johnson; running back DuJuan Harris; and wide receivers Tyler Beiler, Toney Clemons, David Gilreath, Marquis Maze and Derrick Williams.
Analysis: Some of these players were able to make an early impression in training camp and survive the first round of cuts. However, neither of them were ultimately expected to make a Fantasy impact this season and should be left on waivers at this point.

Spence headlines Steelers' drafted defenders

News: The Steelers drafted only three defenders in the NFL Draft: Miami (Fla.) linebacker Sean Spence, Washington defensive tackle Alameda Ta'amu and Texas A&M cornerback Terrence Frederick. Spence should work on special teams right away and provide depth at inside linebacker while Ta'amu will get used as part of their D-line rotation. Frederick should also contribute on special teams and potentially begin the year as the team's fourth cornerback.
Analysis: We were fans of Spence in college and think he's a solid fit for the Steelers in the middle of their defense. He has 90-tackle potential once he gets regular playing time, which conceivably might be soon given the age of starter Larry Foote. He'd need a good camp for that to happen. Spence is the only one worth drafting -- he's a late-round flier in deeper seasonal leagues, a late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a mid-round pick in rookie-only drafts. Ta'amu and Frederick aren't worth using in Fantasy at this point.
