How Lloyd's signing impacts 49ers' receiving corps

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4/15/2014) The 49ers signed Brandon Lloyd on Tuesday, which should impact Kassim Osgood and Jon Baldwin but not matter much to Quinton Patton, reports ESPN.

The 49ers are locked in with their top two receivers in Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, and Patton is expected to be No. 3 on the depth chart. After that, the 49ers are wide open, and Lloyd could be No. 4 ahead of Baldwin and Osgood.

The report says if Lloyd makes the team Baldwin will likely be out. The team re-signed Osgood this offseason because he is a huge part of the special teams. But the 49ers will likely not keep more than six receivers.

Patton, who finished the season strong in 2013 as a rookie, should have time to develop as the No. 3 option. The 49ers are also expected to take a wide receiver in the draft.

49ers trade A.J. Jenkins to the Chiefs for Jon Baldwin

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(8/19/2013) The 49ers have traded receiver A.J. Jenkins to the Chiefs for receiver Jon Baldwin

Both players fell out of favor with their previous teams. Baldwin had been beaten by Donnie Avery for the No. 2 receiver role in Kansas City while Jenkins failed to latch on to any role with the Niners in training camp.

In two years with the Chiefs Baldwin totaled 41 catches for 579 yards and two scores. Jenkins has yet to make a catch in a regular-season game.

Donnie Avery considered the No. 2 WR for Chiefs

Chiefs receiver battle still unclear

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/10/2013) Chiefs wide receiver Jon Baldwin got the start in Friday's first preseason game against the Saints, but the battle for No. 2 receiver did not become much clearer with the game. That is because Dexter McCluster also started in the game, though neither player did much to stand out.

Baldwin was not involved with the offense much, as he was not targeted in the passing game. McCluster barely faired better, finishing with just one catch for 12 yards, while being targeted twice.

McCluster and Baldwin are battling for the No. 2 receiver spot across from Dwayne Bowe.

Teammate Devon Wylie also got some first-team reps as an outside receiver while starter Dwayne Bowe was sidelined.
