Mychal Rivera set to stay as Raiders tight end?

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/3/2014) It looks as if 2013 rookie Mychal Rivera did enough to keep the starting job for the Raiders heading into the offseason. Rivera is a little undersized but held up for 38 catches for 407 yards and four touchdowns. ESPN believes Rivera will work on becoming a better blocker this offseason to land more playing time and thus an improved role on offense.

The Raiders return home to face the Titans in Week 12.

Mychal Rivera has decent matchup, but still deep league play

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/14/2013) Raiders tight end Mychal Rivera has one touchdown this season, and just one game with more than three Fantasy points.

While there's no real reason to embrace Rivera in Week 11, he does get to face off against a Texans defense that has given up the eighth-most touchdowns (five) to opposing tight ends.

Again, no real reason to like Rivera outside of the matchup -- Cory Harkey and Lance Kendricks have scored 40 percent of the touchdowns against the Texans --  but for a deep league owner desperate for anything close to some logic, Rivera does fit the profile of the tight ends who have found the end zone this season against Houston.

Marcel Reece, Mychal Rivera combine for five catches

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/10/2013) Raiders fullback Marcel Reece and tight end Mychal Rivera totaled five catches during a 24-20 loss Week 10 at N.Y. Giants. Reece had three catches for 30 yards, while Rivera added two catches for 22 yards.

Rivera had four catches for 36 yards and was targeted five times. His longest catch went 12 yards.

Criner was targeted eight times, but he managed just three catches for 32 yards. His longest catch went 20 yards.

Five Raiders' players hardly factor Week 8

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/27/2013) Raiders tight end Jeron Mastrud, wide receiver Jacoby Ford, wide receiver Brice Butler, tight end Mychal Rivera and wide receiver Andre Holmes all had little or no contributions during a 21-18 win Week 8 vs. Pittsburgh.

Mastrud had one catch for 9 yards, Ford had one catch for minus-3 yards, while Butler, Rivera and Holmes had no catches.

In fact, two of Butler's three targets were intercepted. Ford also lost a fumble.

The Raiders return to action Week 9 vs. Philadelphia.

Raiders receivers, backs help team win in Week 5

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/7/2013) Several Raiders skill position players contributed a bit to the Sunday win over San Diego.

Among them were wide receiver Jacoby Ford and fullback Jamize Olawale, both of whom caught both passes tossed in their direction for 15 yards. Wide receiver Brice Butler added one reception for 20 yards while tight end Mychal Rivera managed a 5-yard reception and running back Jeremy Stewart contributed a 1-yard catch.

Mychal Rivera a Week 5 Fantasy possibility

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/4/2013) Raiders tight end Mychal Rivera is an intriguing rookie. He shot up the depth chart and earned significant playing time as a sixth-round pick. He snagged his first touchdown reception last Sunday against Washington.

Rivera has caught at least two passes every week and has nine for 123 yards with the one score. But Week 5 foe San Diego has been stingy against opposing tight ends since a miserable showing in the season opener in which they surrendered nine receptions and three touchdowns to players at that position. The Chargers have yielded 12 catches for 150 yards since, including just five for 43 yards to Jason Witten last Sunday.

The Raiders are destined to throw often in this game against the pass-happy Chargers, especially if they fall behind, which they usually do. The return of Terrelle Pryor from a concussion should mean more targets for Rivera. He could make a decent hunch pick in deeper leagues if no better options exist, which is possible with so many players on bye weeks.

Rivera barely earned a spot on two of the three CBSSports.com senior Fantasy writers' lists of top tight end plays in Week 5. But he is gaining momentum and his inclusion in your lineup could pay off.

Mychal Rivera an intriguing Week 2 option

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/13/2013) Fantasy owners might want to take a chance on Raiders rookie tight end Mychal Rivera and put him in their Week 2 lineups if they have no sterling options.

The 2013 sixth-round pick could be the tight end of the future in Oakland, which boasts no other player of consequence at that position. He caught two passes for 26 yards in his NFL debut Sunday in Indianapolis and will compete in Week 2 against an inexperienced and battered Jacksonville secondary.

Those who opt against adding Rivera to their Fantasy rosters should at least monitor his production. He could receive significant playing time with fellow Raiders tight end David Ausberry nursing a shoulder injury.
