Report: Vikings' Matt Kalil underwent two knee surgeries

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(5/6/2015) Vikings left tackle Matt Kalil underwent arthroscopic surgical procedures to both of his knees so far this offseason, according to a report from USA Today

Kalil also had injections to help manage joint pain. Both knees were scoped in January before having a Regenexx procedure performed on them in March. Kalil also had platelet-rich plasma therapy performed, too.

Throughout the procedures, Kalil has been working out and rehabbing at the Vikings' team facility.

Vikings pick up fifth-year options on LT Kalil, S Smith

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(5/4/2015) The Vikings announced Monday they have picked up the fifth-year options on left tackle Matt Kalil and safety Harrison Smith, ensuring them one more year of control over a pair of potential difference makers, per a team release.

Picking up Smith's option was a simple one for the Vikings, as he picked up 92 tackles and grabbed five interceptions for Minnesota last season. He's scheduled to make $5.278 million next year.

Kalil was a more difficult decision, as the former No. 4 pick has struggled after a strong start. His salary would be over $11 million in 2016.

Mike Zimmer: LT Matt Kalil 'very healthy again'

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(3/26/2015) Vikings left tackle Matt Kalil, bothered by knee problems last year, "feels very healthy again so that's a good sign," coach Mike Zimmer said at the NFL owners meetings, per ESPN.com.

"His knees were hurting a lot, bothering him, but he'll be important to our success, as well -- making sure that he plays good, which will allow us to play better."

Kalil, who had left knee surgery before last season, has started all 48 games since being drafted in 2012. Minnesota must decide in May whether to pick up Kalil's fifth-year option.

"He might play great 70 plays, and eight plays he's not very good at all," Zimmer said. "We have to make him more consistent. We have to get him to finish better. I'm encouraged with some of the things he talked to me about the other day."

Matt Kalil has got 'some things' to work on

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/9/2013) Vikings left tackle Matt Kalil struggled against the Lions' defensive line in the season opener Sunday. It comes on the heels of a sluggish preseason, according to The Star Tribune.

"There are some things that we've got to work with him on," coach Leslie Frazier said. "We've got to go back and look at his technique. Just some basic things that he did so well a year ago that we've got to get him back to doing on a repeated basis. We're going to have to do some technique and fundamental work to really get him back to a good foundation because we need him to play well every snap."
