Datone Jones looking to make bigger impact

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/8/2014) Packers defensive end Datone Jones, who played about one-fourth of the snaps as a rookie, trained in Green Bay throughout the offseason as he seeks a starting role. Jones had a disappointing first year, making 3.5 sacks and 10 tackles and struggling to disengage from blocks.

This year the Packers might plug in the 6-4, 285-pound jones next to Mike Daniels on passing downs, reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

"There's a lot of expectations," Jones said. "When I was coming into college, I was one of the highest picks in the nation. When I was coming into the NFL, I was one of the highest picks. So, for me, I'm not here to impress the fans. I'm here to win games with my brothers in this locker room."

Jones "plans on attacking with his hands better and developing a second move," the paper said.

"Ultimately, I want to start — establish myself as the starter," Jones said. "And after that, do whatever it takes to help the team win games. That's all I'm about. Not trying to do anything too big. But if I help the team, I'm producing."

"Once he gets himself healthy, he'll be a force," defensive line coach Mike Trgovac said, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "We'll see with Datone. I don't think he's confident on that ankle yet. He's still trying to work through playing through the pain of that ankle right now. He's not complaining about it. But he's working through it."
