Titans to decide on No. 3 quarterback job

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/21/2014) The Titans will open the season with Jake Locker as the starting quarterback and Charlie Whitehurst as the backup, but there is a battle for the No. 3 job, reports the Tennessean.

Zach Mettenberger vs. Tyler Wilson is the competition. Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick this year, is the favorite to be the No. 3. He has a strong arm and a ton of potential. Wilson is no slouch, but he has a lot to prove after the team drafted Mettenberger.

Matt Flynn has edge in QB battle

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(8/9/2013) The Raiders are expected to have Matt Flynn as their starter this season even though he will face competition from Terrelle Pryor and rookie Tyler Wilson, reports NFL.com.

The report says "everyone expects Flynn, the former Green Bay Packers/Seattle Seahawks backup, to seize the starting job."

General manager Reggie McKenzie said about Flynn, "I can't see him giving it up because he wants it so bad. His nature, I don't think he's going to let it go. But you never close the door on it. Let these guys compete."

Terrelle Pryor locked into at least the No. 2 job

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(8/5/2013) Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor appears to be well ahead of rookie Tyler Wilson for the backup job. It remains to be seen if he can wrestle the starting job away from Matt Flynn.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Pryor has improved his accuracy and has made many big plays so far in training camp. He's still not a finished product -- waiting until his receivers are open to throw and staying too long in the pocket before taking off -- but he's on his way.

There's talk that the Raiders could use Pryor as a rushing and passing threat in the red zone.

"Terrelle will create problems athletically, so we spend a lot of time, like a lot of teams, studying the read option, and he is going to create some problems that way," offensive coordinator Greg Olson said.

Raiders sign QB Tyler Wilson

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/23/2013) The Raiders have signed quarterback Tyler Wilson, a fourth-round draft pick.

Wilson set an Arkansas record with 7,765 passing yards and threw 52 career touchdown passes. He was the first Razorbacks quarterback to earn first-team All-SEC honors.

Oakland has signed eight of its 10 picks.

Flynn is Raiders QB 'right now'

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/29/2013) Even as coach Dennis Allen touted quarterback Matt Flynn as "our starting quarterback as we go forward right now," the Contra Costa Times is impressed with rookie Tyler Wilson's throwing during OTAs. During drills Tuesday Wilson looked good in early drills until throwing some interceptions in red-zone work. Still, Wilson has shown a live arm while Flynn hasn't done anything to separate from the pack. It doesn't mean much, though, as Allen is fine with Flynn. "[U]ntil the competition dictates otherwise, that’s where we’re going," Allen said of Flynn as the starter.

Wilson to have chance at QB job?

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/13/2013) The Contra Costa Times believes rookie quarterback Tyler Wilson could work his way into the battle to start with Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor in training camp. Wilson threw as if he were a seasoned veteran during a recent minicamp, throwing on target consistently be it short or long. He especially threw with velocity, causing fellow rookie receivers to bobble his passes. "Obviously, picking up a new system, there’s a little bit of rust there," Raiders coach Dennis Allen said of Wilson. "But throwing the ball, he’s done a nice job. I don’t have any question about his arm strength and his accuracy."

Raiders draft Wilson

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4/27/2013) The Raiders added another unproven quarterback to the mix, selecting Arkansas’ Tyler Wilson after trading down in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. Wilson joins a quarterback room that already has Matt Flynn, acquired earlier this month in a deal from Seattle, and third-year pro Terrelle Pryor. Wilson was considered one of the top prospects after throwing 24 touchdown passes and only six interceptions while leading Arkansas to an 11-2 record in 2011. Wilson decided to stay in school for his senior season, but his draft status fell as the team struggled following the firing of former coach Bobby Petrino. Wilson completed 62.1 percent of his passes while throwing for 3,387 yards with 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season.
