Offensive coordinator lobbying to keep Marc Mariani

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/28/2013) Titans offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains is lobbying to keep wide receiver/kick returner Marc Mariani, who has been sidelined since the preseason opener with a shoulder injury, on the roster, according to The Tennessean.

"He’s a guy that if I had my way, he’d be on this roster," Loggains said Tuesday. "He’s a guy I believe in, a guy I know can make plays as a receiver and as a return guy. I know the quarterbacks have great confidence in him. He’s one of the more well-liked players in the locker room. Every time he gets on the field, he just finds a way to make plays."

Mariani, who missed last season after suffering a broken leg in the preseason, said he suffered no structural damage in his shoulder and hopes to participate in drills next week.

"Things are going smoothly, healing up," he said. "I’m still day to day, but I’m making huge progress."

Titans have competition at receiver

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/2/2013) The Titans might have three receivers competing for one spot during training camp, according to The Tennessean.

The five receivers likely to make the final roster include Nate Washington, Kenny Britt, Kendall Wright, Damian Williams and Justin Hunter. If they keep six, which is likely given Britt's injury history and Hunter already battling a hamstring problem as a rookie, three guys could compete for the final spot.

Those three would be Kevin WalterMichael Preston and Marc Mariani. All three have positive aspects to their game.

Walter is a veteran free-agent signee who would seem to be a very reliable short-yardage option for Jake Locker. Preston played four games last season and has playmaking potential. And Mariani was a Pro Bowl return-man as a rookie in 2011 who is on the comeback from a broken leg in the preseason last year.
