Texans list baker's dozen as probable for Sunday

(12/27/2013) Thirteen Texans have been deemed probable for the last game of the year, including wide receiver Andre Johnson (wrist) and quarterback T.J. Yates (back).

The other offensive probables are tight end Ryan Griffin (knee), wideout DeAndre Hopkins (ankle), fullback Greg Jones (knee) and offensive linemen Wade Smith (knee) and Derek Newton (knee).

The defensive probables are linebackers Brooks Reed (thumb), Darryl Sharpton (knee) and Justin Tuggle (elbow), backs Josh Victorian (back) and D.J. Swearinger (foot) and end Antonio Smith (knee).


Injured Texans fine for Week 16

(12/22/2013) Texans running back Brad Smelley (back), who was listed as questionable Friday, and running back Greg Jones (knee), defensive back Johnathan Joseph (groin), linebacker Joe Mays (knee), offensive lineman Derek Newton (knee), linebacker Darryl Sharpton (ankle), defensive lineman Antonio Smith (knee), offensive lineman Wade Smith (knee), defensive back D.J. Swearinger (foot), linebacker Justin Tuggle (elbow), defensive back Josh Victorian (back), long snapper Jon Weeks (elbow) and quarterback T.J. Yates (back), who were all listed as probable, are active for Week 16 against the Broncos.

(12/20/2013) The Texans boast a boatload of defensive players on their Friday injury report, but nearly all of them are probable for the Week 16 game against Denver.

The probables are defensive backs D.J. Swearinger (foot), Josh Victorian (back) and Johnathan Joseph (groin), linebackers Justin Tuggle (elbow) and Joe Mays (knee) and linemen Antonio Smith (knee) and J.J. Watt (hand).

(12/13/2013) Six defensive backs pepper the injury list submitted Friday by the Texans, but all are listed as probable for Sunday against Indianapolis.

They are cornerbacks Kareem Jackson (ribs), Johnathan Joseph (groin), Brice McCain (groin) and Josh Victorian (back). The safeties are Shiloh Keo (illness) and D.J. Swearinger (foot).

Linebackers Jeff Tarpinian (groin) and Darryl Sharpton (wrist) are also probable.


D.J. Swearing does little to lead the way

Texans defense largely healthy Thursday

(12/5/2013) The Texans' injury report for Week 14 featured a lengthy list of injured defenders, but all but one player from that side of the ball was able to take the field Thursday against the Jaguars. While defensive back Jawanza Starling (foot) was inactive prior to kickoff, 11 other injured players were able to play through their issues.

Defensive lineman Antonio Smith (not injury related), linebackers Joe Mays (knee), Mike Mohamed (hamstring), Darryl Sharpton (knee), Whitney Mercilus (hip) and Jeff Tarpinian (groin), and defensive backs Brice McCain (hamstring), Johnathan Joseph (groin), Kareem Jackson (ribs), D.J. Swearinger (foot) and Shiloh Keo (neck) are all in uniform Thursday. 


Eleven on Texans defense probable for TNF clash

(12/4/2013) Eleven Texans defenders have been placed on the injury report for the game Thursday against the Jaguars, but all are probable.

Among those in the secondary are Kareem Jackson (ribs), Johnathan Joseph (groin), Shiloh Keo (neck), Jawanza Starling (hamstring) and D.J. Swearinger (foot).

The listed linebackers are Joe Mays (knee), Whitney Mercilus (hip), Mike Mohamed (hamstring), Darryl Sharpton (knee) and Jeff Tarpinian (groin). The lone lineman is Antonio Smith (not injury related).


Texans counting on D.J. Swearinger

(7/17/2013) Texans general manager Rick Smith is hopeful safety Ed Reed (hip) will be ready for Week 1. But whether or not Reed is back for the season opener, Smith expects rookie D.J. Swearinger to play plenty, reports NFL.com.

"D.J. operates like he's a veteran. He has awareness. He knows how to disguise things early in his development learning the scheme. ... I do expect him to play a lot of snaps," Smith said.


Safety Swearinger lands in Houston

(4/26/2013) The Houston Texans have selected South Carolina safety D.J. Swearinger in the second round of the NFL draft. The senior started 12 games last season and finished with 79 tackles, two forced fumbles and seven pass breakups. He also returned an interception and a fumble for touchdowns.

He'll join a defense that added veteran safety Ed Reed in the offseason. The senior started 12 games last season and finished with 79 tackles, two forced fumbles and seven pass breakups. He also returned an interception and a fumble for touchdowns.
