Olivier Vernon's back 'locked up'

(8/4/2014) Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon left Monday's practice when his back "locked up," reports the Miami Herald. Vernon, 23, led the team with 11.5 sacks last year while making 57 tackles.

(6/27/2014) Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon is considered a player on the rise, reports ESPN.

Actually, per the report, he has been rishing for two years now after he led the Dolphins with 11.5 sacks in 2013. Now, Vernon is out to prove last season was not a fluke.

He's had another strong offseason, and he's impressed Pro Bowl left tackle Branden Albert.

"He's real, real good," Albert said.


Dolphins pass rushers neutralized by Bills

(12/22/2013) The Dolphins' pass-rushing tandem of defensive end Olivier Vernon and linebacker Cameron Wake failed to make much of an impact in Week 16 against the Bills. Neither player managed to pick up a sack in the 19-0 loss; Vernon had five tackles, while Wake had just four.

Heading into the final game of the season, Vernon has 11 1/2 sacks, while Wake has 8 1/2, the second-lowest total of his career. 


Dolphins in good shape for Sunday's game

(12/22/2013) The Dolphins listed eight defensive players on the Week 16 injury report, but all of them were able to play Sunday against the Bills.

Despite being on the report, defensive linemen Olivier Vernon (ankle), Paul Soliai (ankle) and John Denney (illness) are active for Sunday's game, along with defensive backs Jamar Taylor (hamstring), Reshad Jones (groin), Brent Grimes (groin), Chris Clemons (knee, hamstring) and Nolan Carroll (knee).

(12/20/2013) The Dolphins have placed eight players on their Friday injury report, but only running back Daniel Thomas (ankle) has been deemed more serious than probable for the Sunday game against Miami. He is questionable. All the probables play defense.

They are secondary mates Reshad Jones (groin), Chris Clemons (knee/hamstring), Jamar Taylor (hamstring), Nolan Carroll (knee) and Brent Grimes (groin) and defensive linemen Paul Soliai (ankle) and Olivier Vernon (ankle).

(12/15/2013) Dolphins linebacker Olivier Vernon failed to make an impact in Week 15 against the Patriots, finishing with just two tackles and no sacks in a 24-20 win.

Vernon has 50 tackles and 11 1/2 sacks on the season.

(12/8/2013) Dolphins linebacker Olivier Vernon continued his breakout season Sunday, as he recorded another sack in a 34-28 win over the Steelers in Week 14. Vernon brought Ben Roethlisberger down with one of his two tackles, giving him his fourth straight game with a sack.

Vernon has 11 1/2 sacks with three games remaining in the season, and seven of them have come in the last four games.

(12/1/2013) Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon had a huge performance in Week 13, in a 23-3 win over the Jets. Vernon led the team in tackles with 10 -- seven solo -- and added a career-high 2 1/2. He now has 5 1/2 sacks in the last three games and 10 on the season.

(11/24/2013) Dolphins defensive linemen Dion Jordan and Olivier Vernon provided some pass rush in Week 12, a 20-16 loss to the Panthers.

Jordan's lone tackle in the game was a sack of Cam Newton, his second sack of the season. Vernon was more productive overall racking up four tackles, one of which gave him 6 1/2 sacks on the season.

Vernon picked up a sack for the second straight game, while adding three tackles in a 26-23 loss. He now has 12 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks on the season.

(10/1/2013) The injury-depleted Dolphins DST seemed helpless to stop Drew Brees and the Saints on Monday night. New Orleans rolled up 38 points and 465 total yards in the blowout.

Safety Jimmy Wilson forced a Darren Sproles fumble, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe recovering. Defensive ends Jared Odrick and Olivier Vernon each sacked Brees. But it was a long night for Miami's defense, which was on the field nearly 34 minutes.

The Dolphins DST has an easier matchup Week 5 against Baltimore.

(9/22/2013) The Dolphins received a few defensive contributions from a several role players during Sunday's home opener against the Falcons in Week 3.

Defensive back Chris Clemons finished with one total tackle while defensive lineman Dion Jordan registered two total tackles (two solo). Linebacker Koa Misi racked up four total tackles (four solo) while defensive lineman Olivier Vernon finished with three (three solo). Defensive back Jimmy Wilson, who came back from a groin injury, came down with his first interception of the season and was held without a tackle.

(8/8/2013) The Dolphins have listed their injuries for Friday's preseason game at Jacksonville, reports the Miami Herald.

The players who are expected to play include: running back Lamar Miller (ankle), fullback Jorvorskie Lane (unknown), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, defensive lineman Jared Odrick (groin), receiver Brian Hartline (calf) and defensive lineman Olivier Vernon (groin).

Receiver Mike Wallace's status remains unknown since he missed the Hall of Fame game with a groin injury, and defensive lineman Randy Starks (knee) and offensive lineman John Jerry (knee) and cornerback Jamar Taylor (hernia) are out.
