Pressure on Vance McDonald to produce

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/11/2014) The 49ers are committed to a two-tight end offense but only got "real production" from Vernon Davis, reports the Sacramento Bee. So the pressure is on 2013 second-round pick Vance McDonald to "tap his potential in 2014," the report said.

McDonald finished the regular season with eight catches for 119 yards, failing to adequately replace Delanie Walker. McDonald played nearly half the team's offensive snaps and improved as a run blocker throughout the season, the report added.

Vance McDonald 'developing nicely'

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/28/2014) 49ers tight end Vance McDonald, a second-round pick, finished his rookie year with eight catches for 119 yards. He ended up doing a lot of run-blocking.

Offensive coordinator Greg Roman liked what he saw from the 6-4, 267-pounder out of Rice. "He's getting a lot better without question," Roman told the team's website. "The nuances, all the little tricks of the trade, he’s starting to get a little bit more comfortable with. He’s developing nicely into the player that we really felt he would be. He’s been a very valuable asset for us this year.”

Vance McDonald has impressive offseason

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/28/2013) 49ers tight end Vance McDonald was called the most impressive rookie during the offseason program, reports Comcast Sports Net.

McDonald is expected to replace No. 2 tight end Delanie Walker, who signed with the Titans as a free agent. McDonald mostly played slot receiver in college, so blocking is new to him. But at 6-foot-4, 267 pounds, he should be able to quickly adapt when the pads go on during training camp in late-July.
