Three Steelers ruled out Week 8

(2:20 pm ET) The Steelers have officially ruled out Steve McLendon (shoulder), Shamarko Thomas (hamstring) and Ike Taylor (forearm) for Week 8 at home against Indianapolis. Marcus Gilbert has yet to pass the league's concussion protocol and was labeled doubtful for Sunday.

Meanwhile, Ryan Shazier (knee), Brett Keisel (rest), Mike Mitchell (rest) and Troy Polamalu (rest) were all deemed probable.

(10/18/2014) Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel (knee) and safety Mike Mitchell (knee) practiced Saturday and are listed as probable on the team's final injury report for Monday night's matchup with the Texans.

Linebacker Ryan Shazier (knee) was limited Saturday and is listed as questionable to play Monday. Safety Shamarko Thomas (hamstring) will join Steve McLendon (shoulder) and Ike Taylor (forearm) on the inactive list, as all have been listed as out for Week 7.

(9/22/2014) The Steelers DST enjoyed itself Sunday night in Carolina, producing three sacks, two turnovers and a touchdown in a 37-19 win.

The biggest play came early in the fourth quarter when the Panthers' Philly Brown fumbled on a punt return and safety Robert Golden recovered in the end zone. It was one of two fumble recoveries for Pittsburgh, which got a sack-fumble from outside linebacker Jarvis Jones.

Linebacker Arthur Moats and nose tackle Steve McLendon also sacked Cam Newton. Pittsburgh allowed just 42 rushing yards in what was easily its top defensive performance this year.

The Steelers DST has a chance to dominate again Week 4 against the lowly Buccaneers.

Running back Dri Archer (ankle) is doubtful while guard Ramon Foster (ankle) is questionable. Those listed as probable are defensive end Brett Keisel (not injury related), wide receivers Martavis Bryant (shoulder) and Lance Moore (groin), tight end Heath Miller (not injury related), nose tackle Steve McLendon (shoulder) and safety Troy Polamalu (not injury related).

He has nine tackles through two games.

(9/11/2014) Ravens DT Steve McLendon  has been downgraded to out Thursday against the Steelers.

McLendon is dealing with a shoulder injury. He was initially ruled questionable to return, but was downgraded to out after being examined. McLendon was listed on the injury report as probable due to a stinger. 


Stud Steelers ready to go Week 2

(9/11/2014) The Steelers will go into Week 2 with all of their stud offensive players. 

A number of important players entered the week listed as probable on the injury report. Nearly all of them are active Week 2 against the Steelers. Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Heath Miller, Ben Roethlisberger, Cody Wallace and Markus Wheaton were all cleared to play. While they were all on the injury report, only Wallace was dealing with an injury. The rest missed practice for non-injury reasons. 

On defense, the Steelers will have Brett Keisel, Steve McLendon, Troy Polamalu, Ike Taylor, Shamarko Thomas and Vince Williams. Wallace was dealing with an ankle issue, but the rest were listed for non-injury reasons.

(9/10/2014) The Steelers announced Wednesday running back Dri Archer (ankle) and wide receiver Lance Moore (groin) will not play Week 2 against the Ravens. 

The Steelers also listed wide receiver Martavis Bryant (shoulder), cornerback Brice McCain (groin), nose tackle Steve McLendon (stinger), safety Shamarko Thomas (Achilles, ankle) and offensive lineman Cody Wallace (finger, hamstring) as probable.

(2/11/2014) The Steelers are looking to upgrade the middle of their defensive line after nose tackle Steve McLendon's performance in 2013, reports ESPN.com. McLendon made his average tackle after a gain of 3.0 yards, worst of any starting nose tackle in a 3-4 defense, according to Football Outsiders.

Pittsburgh gave up 125 rushing yards per game after yielding 95 yards per game in 2012. McLendon is signed through 2015, but most expect the Steelers to take a defensive tackle early in the draft.
