News: The Carolina Panthers made their first round of cuts Monday and waived the following players: kicker Olindo Mare; wide receivers Darvin Adams, Michael Avila, Brenton Bersin and Rico Wallace; running backs Lyndon Rowells and Josh Vaughan; defensive lineman Eric Norwood and tight end Greg Smith.
Analysis: Aside from Mare, none of these players were expected to make a Fantasy impact this season and should be left off all rosters at this point.
News: Panthers RB Josh Vaughan saw his first action of the season in Week 16 against the Buccaneers. With Carolina leading big in the fourth quarter, he gained 24 yards on seven carries. He finished fourth on the team in rushing in the 48-16 win.
Analysis: Vaughan is buried on the depth chart behind Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Stewart and poses minimal Fantasy value for the rest of 2011. Continue to ignore him in all formats.
News: The Panthers placed RB Mike Goodson on IR Wednesday because of a hamstring injury. LB Kion Wilson and RB Josh Vaughan were added to the active roster as well.
Analysis: Vaughan isn't going to get much playing time as long as DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are healthy, so continue to ignore him in Fantasy until further notice.
News: The Panthers re-signed RB Josh Vaughan to their practice squad on Thursday, one day after waiving him.
Analysis: Vaughan remains a non-factor in Fantasy play,
News: Panthers reserve running back Josh Vaughan was waived Wednesday to make room for offensive line help. Vaughan scored one touchdown in very limited reps with the Panthers.
Analysis: He wasn't expected to produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use in the first place. Keep him off of rosters.
News: Panthers RB Josh Vaughan, who was just re-signed by the team Tuesday, scored a surprise touchdown Week 10 at Tampa Bay, lunging in from 2 yards out in the second quarter. He finished with three carries for 7 yards.
Analysis: Vaughan was forced into a backup role with DeAngelo Williams (foot) and Jonathan Stewart (concussion) sidelined by injuries. Mike Goodson, who started the game for the Panthers, finished with 23 carries for 100 yards, so there shouldn't be a controversy here even if Williams and Stewart remain sidelined. Vaughan just happened to spell Goodson at the right time. You can leave him on waivers in all but the deepest of Fantasy leagues for Week 11 against the Ravens.
News: The Panthers re-signed RB Josh Vaughan on Tuesday.
Analysis: Carolina added two running backs on Tuesday (Andre Brown the other), which could mean that Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams are more injured than previously reported. Vaughan, who was cut from the practice squad last week, certainly has less value than Brown, so continue to ignore him in Fantasy play.
News: The Panthers signed six players to the practice squad Monday they cut two days earlier, including rookie cornerback R.J. Stanford, defensive tackle Corvey Irvin., running back Josh Vaughan, fullback Rashawn Jackson, receiver Trent Guy and linebacker Sean Ware.
Analysis: None of these players were or are expected to be regular stat contributors in the first place. Keep them off of Fantasy rosters.
News: The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed quarterback Richard Bartel to the practice squad. The team also signed fullback Brock Bolen, safety Michael Desormeaux, defensive end Jeremy Navarre, center Cecil Newton, guard Cameron Stephenson, receiver Tiquan Underwood and running back Josh Vaughan to the eight-man practice squad.
Analysis: None of these players were expected to produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use. Keep them off of rosters for now.
News: The Buccaneers announced Friday that they have signed WR Mario Urrutia and released RB Josh Vaughan. Urrutia was most recently with the N.Y. Jets and spent the entire 2008 season on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. Vaughan originally joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2009.
Analysis: Urrutia will compete for a roster spot but has minimal Fantasy value and should not be drafted. Ignore Vaughan in all leagues as well since he's not with a team.
