Bengals Week 8 injury report features 10 probables

(10/24/2014) Outside of A.J. Green and Rey Maualuga, the Bengals enter Week 8 at home against Baltimore relatively healthy despite having 14 players on the final injury report for Sunday's game. Green (toe) was ruled doubtful, while Rey Maualuga (hamstring) was officially ruled out. Brandon Thompson (knee) was limited in practice and questionable.

Meanwhile, the following players were labeled probable for the Bengals: Giovani Bernard (ribs), Kevin Brock (neck), Vontaze Burfict (neck), Robert Geathers (toe), Wallace Gilberry (eye), Leon Hall (back), Emmanuel Lamur (shoulder), Marshall Newhouse (back), Mike Pollak (knee) and Andre Smith (shoulder).


Big names among Bengals inactives for clash against Colts

(10/19/2014) Stud wideout A.J. Green is the standout among the seven inactives for the Bengals on Sunday against host Indianapolis. But several other injured players are on the list.

They are linebackers Emmanuel Lamur (shoulder) and Rey Maualuga (hamstring) and defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (knee).

The healthy scratches are cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris, tackle Tanner Hawkinson and defensive end Will Clarke.


Five Bengals out or doubtful for battle against Colts

(10/17/2014) Five Bengals are either assured or all but assured of being inactive Sunday at Indianapolis. Wide receiver Marvin Jones (ankle) and linebacker Rey Maualuga (hamstring) have been ruled out while wideout A.J. Green (toe), linebacker Emmanuel Lamur (shoulder) and defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (knee) are all doubtful.

The rest of the injured are probable. They are defensive end Wallace Gilberry (eye), safety George Iloka (groin) and offensive linemen Kevin Zeitler (calf), Andre Smith (shoulder) and Mike Pollak (knee).

(10/10/2014) The Bengals listed nine players on their final injury report for Week 6 at home against Carolina.

Outside of star receiver A.J. Green (toe) being questionable for Sunday, Vontaze Burfict (concussion) is the most notable name on the report. He was a full participant in practice all week after receiving clearance from team doctors and is listed as probable. He will need to be given the green light by an independent neurologist in order to play Sunday.

Other probables include safety George Iloka (abdomen), linebacker Rey Maualuga (shoulder), offensive lineman Mike Pollak (knee) and linebacker Vincent Rey (calf). Outside of Green, wide receiver Marvin Jones (ankle), who missed practice all week, was the only other player deemed questionable on the list. Defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (knee) and guard Kevin Zeitler (calf) were both ruled doubtful for the home game.

Other players who were listed as doubtful that are inactive include running back Rex Burkhead (knee), linebacker Sean Porter (hamstring), guard Kevin Zeitler (calf) and defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (knee). (9/19/2014) The Bengals have ruled out wide receiver Marvin Jones for the Sunday game against Tennessee with a foot injury that has prevented him from playing in either of the first two games. He is the lone certain scratch listed on the Friday injury report.

Several players have been deemed doubtful, however, including linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concussion), running back Rex Burkhead (knee), linebacker Sean Porter (hamstring), defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (knee) and guard Kevin Zeitler (calf).

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap (knee), offensive lineman Mike Pollak (knee), tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) and safety Shawn Williams (groin) are all listed as probable.

(9/14/2014) Bengals defensive lineman Brandon Thompson hurt his left knee in the first half Week 2 vs. Atlanta and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Thompson did not contribute statistically before leaving. He had four tackles in Week 1.


Geno Atkins no lock for Week 1?

(6/2/2014) Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins' status is not known after suffering a torn ACL in the middle of last season. In February it was reported that he hadn't had any setbacks but ESPN says it's "anyone's guess" when he'll be back on the field. The Bengals are apt to keep Devon Still and/or Brandon Thompson if Atkins isn't ready for the start of the season.

(11/17/2013) The  Bengals defense is missing three players for Week 11 against the Browns, but the majority of the unit is still healthy for Sunday's game. Linebackers Michael Boley (hamstring), Vontaze Burfict (knee) and James Harrison (calf) were able to suit up for kickoff, along with defensive lineman Brandon Thompson (ankle) and defensive back Terence Newman (ankle).

(11/15/2013) The banged-up Bengals listed a variety of designations on their Friday injury report, which features eight defenders among its 11 players.

Guard Kevin Zeitler (foot) has been ruled out for the Sunday game against the Browns, as has defensive tackle Devon Still (elbow). Deemed doubtful are safety Chris Crocker (hamstring) and linebacker Rey Maualuga (knee). Linebacker James Harrison (calif) is questionable.

The rest are probable. They are linebackers Vontaze Burfict (knee) and Michael Boley (hamstring), center Kyle Cook (shoulder), tight end Jermaine Gresham (groin), cornerback Terence Newman (ankle) and defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (ankle).

(11/14/2013) Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict (knee), who leads NFL with 102 tackles, and defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (ankle) returned to practice Thursday after missing the Wednesday session. Thompson made his first start of the season in Week 10. Both should play Sunday against the Browns.

(8/17/2013) Bengals safety George Iloka (wrist) and defensive linemen Michael Johnson (undisclosed), Carlos Dunlap (concussion), Brandon Thompson (knee) were held out of Saturday's preseason contest against the Titans. All players could be eligible to return for the Aug. 24 exhibition game in Dallas, according to the team's official website.  

Big guys highlight Bengals draft


(5/7/2012) In addition to the selection of Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, the Bengals added Penn State defensive tackle Devon Still, Clemson defensive tackles Brandon Thompson, Iowa cornerback Shaun Prater and Boise State safety George Iloka. Still and Thompson are both big guys who can clog the line of scrimmage while Prater is a keen ballhawk and Iloka is a raw project who played corner in college and could be a solid safety eventually.
