Panthers LB Luke Kuechly to avoid fine after ejection

(10/21/2014) Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly will not be fined for making contact with an official during his team's Week 7 loss to the Packers, NFL.com reports.

Kuechly was ejected from Sunday's game after the incident, which the linebacker contends happened because he wasn't aware it was an official pulling him from behind after a play. Panthers coach Ron Rivera disagreed with the decision to eject Kuechly and predicted the linebacker wouldn't face a fine.

(10/20/2014) Panthers coach Ron Rivera told reporters he didn't agree with the explanation given to him regarding linebacker Luke Kuechly's ejection on Sunday, per the team's official website. Kuechly was tossed for contacting an official after posting a team-high eight tackles in a Week 8 defeat.

"The kid reacted to somebody grabbing him by the neck and pulling him out of the pile," Rivera said. "Then somebody grabbed him by the waist. Well, the guy who grabbed him by the waist just happened to be the ref. That's why he reacted; he thought another player was coming into grab him."

(10/5/2014) Panthers tackle machine Luke Kuechly was in rare form Sunday against the Bears. The middle linebacker led his team with 15 tackles, including 11 solos.

He has contributed to a whopping 41 tackles in his last three games. He will try to maintain the pace at Cincinnati next Sunday.

(4/28/2014) NFL Defensive Player of the Year Luke Kuechly said he's working on his pass rushing moves.

"I just think that everybody's goal is to get better, and that's my goal," Kuechly told the team's website. "My personal goals are really to just get better at pass rush, working on some moves, working on counter-moves that will allow me to do some more things. I think last year I got stuck in a couple spots in pass rush and it led to big plays because they were counting on me getting there and I wasn't quite able to.

"Same thing with pass coverage. I was talking to Thomas (Davis) about it a little bit today and he said it's just you've got to be confident in what you're doing. The more reps I get at it, the more confident I'll get, the better I'll feel about it."

Kuechly, a 23-year-old linebacker, had 156 tackles, seven pass breakups, four interceptions and two sacks last year.

(2/1/2014) Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly won the 2013 NFL Defensive Player of the Year during Saturday's NFL Honors awards ceremony.

Kuechly finished fourth in the NFL with 156 tackles, including 34 tackles in the final two regular-season games. He also had four interceptions and two sacks in just his third season in the league.

(1/8/2014) Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly, who finished fourth in the NFL with 156 tackles, has got the attention of 49ers running back Frank Gore ahead of Sunday's playoff game in Carolina. "Fast. Can really get to the ball. Fast. Fast. Big. Fast. He’s got it all," Gore told CSNBayArea.com when asked about Kuechly.

Kuechly, 22, had four interceptions, two sacks and seven passes defended this season. He made 34 tackles in the last two regular-season games.

Luke Kuehly tabbed as NFL best by coordinator

(12/23/2013) Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott called linebacker Luke Kuechly the best defensive player in the NFL today, per the Charlotte Observer.

McDermott was inspired by the Week 16 performance of Kuechly, who racked up 24 tackles, two passes defensed and an interception in the Sunday win over New Orleans.

(9/23/2013) The Panthers tied a franchise record with seven sacks during a 38-0 win Week 3 vs. N.Y. Giants. Greg Hardy led the charge with three sacks, but Thomas Davis, Charles Johnson, Kawann Short and Star Lotulelei each had one.

Davis finished with five tackles (two solo), Johnson had four tackles (two solo) and three quarterback hits, Short had four tackles (two solo) and Lotulelei had two tackles (one solo).

Robert Lester and Melvin White each had an interception. Lester had five tackles (three solo), and White finished with two solo tackles and also forced a fumble.

Linebacker Luke Kuechly was second on the team with six tackles (one solo), which trailed Hardy's team-high eight tackles.

(9/15/2013) Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly had a nice game Sunday during the Week 2 loss at Buffalo. Kuechly led the Panthers with 14 tackles and added an interception.

Kuechly had seven solo tackles among his 14 stops. Although he didn't have a sack, one of his tackles did go for a loss in the game. The 22-year-old has 23 tackles in two games for the Panthers. Carolina plays against the Giants Week 3.

(6/27/2013) Panthers linebackers coach Al Holcomb said middle linebacker Luke Kuechly --the 2012 NFL tackle leader and defensive rookie of the year -- has been as good as advertised, reports the team's official website.

"He's very good and even with the success that he's had early in his career, he's like a sponge," Holcomb said. "He wants to gain as much knowledge about the (middle linebacker) position and the defense as he can. You tell him something once, and he gets it. He lets you coach him, he takes to coaching very well. He tries everything the way we are teaching it. It's been a pleasure coaching him."

Kuechly led the league with 164 tackles to go along with two interceptions and a sack in his first season in the league. "He is everything we thought he would be and more," head coach Ron Rivera said. "He has a bright future here with us, and you feel very good about him leading our defense."
