Akiem Hicks ready to break out

(4/30/2014) Saints defensive end Akiem Hicks is poised for a breakout season, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Hicks (6-5, 324) recorded 4.5 sacks and 56 tackles in his first full year as a starter.

"Akiem is a monster," fellow defensive end Cameron Jordan told the paper. "That dude is a monster."

All of their teammates are pretty much certain to play. Tackle Terron Armstead (knee), cornerback Keenan Lewis (head/neck) and guard Jahri Evans (ankle) are probable.

Defensive backs Kenny Vaccaro (concussion), Rod Sweeting (hip) and Chris Carr (hip, back hamstring) were all able to play through injuries, as was linebacker Curtis Lofton (hamstring, ankle) and defensive linemen Cameron Jordan (ankle) and Akiem Hicks (back).

(11/1/2013) The Saints have some serious injury questions heading into Week 9 against the Jets, with eight players from the defensive side of the ball dealing with injuries. Among those eight, just three are probable for Sunday's game: defensive lineman Akiem Hicks (knee), linebacker David Hawthorne (ankle) and defensive back Malcolm Jenkins (knee).

The bigger concern for the Saints are the five defenders considered questionable for the game. Akiem Hicks to step in for Coleman

(8/8/2013) With Kenyon Coleman (pectoral) out for the season, the Saints will turn to Akiem Hicks to step up and fill the void at defensive end, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Hicks played in 14 games last season at 4-3 defensive tackle, where he had 32 tackles, one pass breakup and a forced fumble.

"That's really tough and that kind of puts our game back a little," Hicks said. "Coleman was a tough loss. You don't want to see that for anybody. Not for your team, the opposing team or anybody."

(5/8/2012) The Saints went after a need by taking ex-LSU defensive tackle Akiem Hicks (6-foot-5, 318 pounds) with their first pick of 2012 draft in the third round (No. 89 overall). Hicks went to Regina to play football after leaving LSU. He's expected to provide depth at defensive tackle.
