News: ESPN reports that Oakland's Taiwan Jones plans to move from running back to cornerback this season, which is being received well from the Raiders' brass. Im pushing for cornerback, Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie said. I think it fits his skill set. I think were going to see how he does there. McKenzie acknowledged it will not be easy for Jones to make a position switch, but he thinks he can do it. McKenzie said hed be thrilled if Jones could someday develop into a nickel cornerback. McKenzie said he had Jones projected as a cornerback when Oakland took him in the fourth round out of Eastern Washington in 2011.
Analysis: Jones has had a hard time staying healthy and has made little impact. He has 94 career yards on 22 carries as a running back. He had minimal Fantasy value as a running back and will not be worth drafting in IDP leagues until he proves he can play on defense and make plays.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones saw minimal touches in Week 11 against the Saints even with Darren McFadden (ankle) and Mike Goodson (ankle) both inactive. He gained 13 yards on three carries in the 38-17 loss. Jones left in the second quarter due to an ankle injury but was able to return after halftime.
Analysis: Jones did not see many touches behind Marcel Reece on Sunday but is the backup at this point with McFadden and Goodson injured. Keep an eye on their status going forward to see if the 24-year-old will remain the backup for Week 12 against the Bengals. Despite his increased role, Jones remains more of a low-end option in Fantasy at this point.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones returned to action after halftime in Week 11 against the Saints. He left in the second quarter due to an ankle injury. Jones gained 6 yards on two carries in the first half.
Analysis: Jones was not seeing many touches behind Marcel Reece before the early exit Sunday but is the backup at this point with Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson injured. Keep an eye on how he does in the second half to see if the 24-year-old gets more involved. Despite his increased role, Jones remains more of a low-end option in Fantasy at this point.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones left Week 11 against the Saints in the second quarter due to an ankle injury. His return is being considered as questionable. Jones gained 6 yards on two carries before the early exit.
Analysis: Jones becomes the third running back for Oakland to go down with an ankle injury. He was not seeing many touches behind Marcel Reece before the early exit Sunday but owners in deeper Fantasy formats should keep an eye on his status going forward. When healthy, Jones should be considered as more of a handcuff option.
News: With Darren McFadden (ankle) and Mike Goodson (ankle) both being considered as questionable for Week 11 against New Orleans, Marcel Reece is likely to receive the start at running back again for Oakland. That means Taiwan Jones would serve as backup again Sunday. The Saints rank 31st in the league in run defense, giving up 162 yards per contest, and have allowed an average of 22.8 Fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Analysis: Jones saw just two carries last week as Reece stole the show for Oakland. The Saints pose a favorable matchup for whoever starts at running back so owners will want to keep an eye on the statuses of McFadden and Goodson going forward. Reece's emergence has hindered Jones value in Fantasy so leave the 24-year-old for the deepest of formats in Week 11.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones saw his stock drop dramatically on Sunday, as he carried the ball just twice in Oakland's 55-20 loss to the Ravens. While Jones did catch one pass for seven yards, it became pretty clear early that Marcel Reese is the team's go-to running back, and then became pretty clear late that Jeremy Stewart -- who carried the ball seven times to Jones' two -- is the team's backup.
Analysis: There was some feeling before Week 10 that Jones, the more traditional of the team's backs, in terms of style and makeup, would get a decent amount of carries in the game. This, however, was quickly shot down, as Reece was in for 13 snaps to Jones' one in the first quarter. Even with an easy matchup against the Saints in Week 11, Jones should be left on the waiver wire in most leagues, as the Oakland running back you want is Marcel Reece, followed by Jeremy Stewart, and then Taiwan Jones.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones, in the mix at running back for Oakland, got some high praise from Carson Palmer on Wednesday, with the quarterback telling the San Francisco Chronicle that he "can't wait" for the second-year pro to get his shot. "He is so electrifying," Palmer added. Jones and Marcel Reece are Oakland's only options at running back in Week 10 against the Ravens with Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson nursing high ankle sprains. Jones has gained just six total yards on the year, all of the yards coming in Week 9 -- two from a carry and four from a catch. He managed to fumble in the game as well, which is an issue that coach Dennis Allen had earlier said was an area of concern. Jones played a total of five snaps after Goodson got hurt last week while Reece had 23.
Analysis: There are several factors here working for and against Jones. The Raiders have the third-fewest rushing attempts in the league, and while Jones has to contend with Marcel Reece for carries, Reece has been more of a pass-catching back than a runner. Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp also has a nice history of developing running backs in complementary/thrust-into-starting-duty roles (think Kevan Barlow, Justin Fargas, LaMont Jordan and Justin Forsett). In short, if Jones starts, he may get a nice chance to succeed against a Ravens defense that has allowed the fifth-most rushing yards per game this season. But with the coaching staff seemingly uneasy about using Jones a lot (see last week, and the last two seasons), we could see him very limited. Jones is intriguing and worth a pickup just for the hope that he starts, but is better left for benches until his role is better defined after Week 10.
News: Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday running back Darren McFadden suffered a high-ankle sprain Week 9 vs. Tampa Bay. He said X-rays and MRI were negative. Allen said he hasn't ruled out McFadden for Week 10 at Baltimore and the team will continue to monitor his progress. Allen said backup running back Mike Goodson also sustained a high-ankle sprain and is in the same boat as McFadden. Allen refused to commit to a game plan for Week 10 if McFadden and Goodson are out, but as of now Taiwan Jones is listed as the team's third-string running back.
Analysis: Allen left open the possibility of Oakland bringing in a running back if McFadden and Goodson are sidelined. However, that player would have to be a quick study to potentially unseat Jones, who has been with Oakland since last season. He knows the offense and probably would be the first choice to pace the rushing attack if both injured running backs are sidelined. Although, Allen said Jones hasn't played much this season because of ball security issues, which is an area he needs to show the coaches he has improved. It could still be worth taking a flier on Jones in deep Fantasy formats. The Ravens present a favorable matchup, yielding 20.8 Fantasy points per week to running backs.
News: With both Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson both dealing with ankle injuries, running back Taiwan Jones could see extended work in Week 10 against the Ravens. Jones, who missed the previous two games due to a knee injury, finished with 2 yards rushing on one carry in Week 9 against the Buccaneers. He also hauled in one 4-yard reception in the 42-32 defeat.
Analysis: Jones is currently the third back listed on Oakland's depth chart but that could change this upcoming week. If McFadden and Goodson are both unable to play, Jones looks next in line to be the team's featured back. Obviously, Fantasy owners will have to see how things play out over the next few days before jumping the gun. However, owners with McFadden and or Goodson their rosters, may want to scoop up Jones. The Raiders are at Baltimore in Week 10.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones was ruled active for Week 9 against the Buccaneers after missing the last two weeks with a knee injury. Jones has yet to register a carry this season.
Analysis: Jones is listed as the third-string running back on the depth chart and has yet to really see the field this season. That is unlikely to change this week, which is why Fantasy owners should continue to ignore the 24-year-old in all formats.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones was ruled inactive for Week 8 against the Chiefs as he continues to deal with a knee injury. Jones has now missed two straight games due to his injury.
Analysis: Jones is still being bothered by his knee injury and there has been no timetable announced for his possible return. Fantasy owners will have to keep an eye on his status moving forward to see when he can get back on the field. However, Jones doesn't have much value when healthy anyway.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones, who was listed as probable with a shoulder injury leading up to the game, is active for Week 6 at Atlanta.
Analysis: It's nice to see Jones active, but considering he has yet to touch the ball on offense this season, it's not a big deal for Fantasy purposes. He should remain on the waiver wire.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones was able to practice all week despite a shoulder injury, and is probable for Sunday's game against the Falcons in Week 6.
Analysis: Jones was hoping to emerge as the teams backup running back, but he has yet to record a single carry or reception. At this point, it seems his lack of health has been a major issue towards him getting on the floor. He has some upside, but should be stashed only in the deepest of Fantasy formats. He is not worth relying on in Week 6.
News: Oakland running back Taiwan Jones was not involved on offense during Sunday's 34-31 victory over the Steelers as did not appear in the running game or the passing game in Week 3.
Analysis: Jones took the backseat to Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson on offense thus far. Jones has not put up any numbers this season on offense and has appeared in special teams. He is not considered a worthwhile option in Fantasy moving forward.
News: Oakland running back Taiwan Jones was listed as active as he will take the field Sunday against the Steelers despite dealing with a lingering ribs injury.
Analysis: Jones seemed to be a popular handcuff draft pick for Fantasy owners before the season started, but he has been merely non-existent thus far, as he'll probably line up behind Mike Goodson on the depth chart as the season progresses. Fantasy owners should leave him on waivers for now.
News: Oakland running back Taiwan Jones is officially listed as questionable for the team's Week 3 matchup against the Steelers due to a lingering ribs injury. Jones was limited in practice all week leading up to Sunday and will likely be a game-time decision.
Analysis: Jones seemed to be a popular handcuff draft pick for Fantasy owners before the season started, but he has been merely non-existent thus far, as he'll probably line up behind Mike Goodson on the depth chart as the season progresses. We'll continue to monitor his injury status throughout the week. Fantasy owners might want to consider leaving him on waivers in the majority of formats moving forward.
News: Oakland running back Taiwan Jones is listed as questionable for the Raiders' Week 3 showdown against the Steelers because of a lingering ribs injury. Jones was limited in practice Wednesday and has not been involved in the offense through the first two games.
News: Raiders running back Mike Goodson put up some impressive stats on Sunday, finishing second on the team in receiving yards after a big 64-yard reception in the first quarter. Goodson managed -6 yards on one rush, but made up for it with three receptions for 83 yards. He caught all three of his targets.
Analysis: Goodson's value, despite the nice numbers, still lies more in being Darren McFadden's handcuff than as a weekly receiving threat. The 64-yard run came when McFadden was on the sideline with an eye injury, so chances are the play could have gone to McFadden if he was in the game. There is no doubt right now that Goodson is the backup for the Raiders, not Taiwan Jones (who didn't register a stat on Sunday), so handcuffing owners should act accordingly. All other waiver wire speculators may want to pass on Goodson and look elsewhere for value pick-ups. Goodson faces the Steelers in Week 3.
News: Oakland running back Taiwan Jones is listed as questionable for the team's Week 2 contest at Miami because of a troublesome ribs injury. Jones was a limited participant in practice the past two days after sitting out with the issue on Wednesday. He suffered the injury during Monday's game against San Diego.
Analysis: Jones was a popular handcuff draft pick for Darren McFadden owners, but he didn't see a single carry in Week 1 against the Chargers (although he did have six return yards). A healthy Jones would still be a sketchy handcuff, however, thanks to the presence of Mike Goodson, who had 13 rushing yards on two attempts in Week 1. Fantasy owners should probably leave Jones on waivers in the majority of formats at this point.
News:Taiwan Jones, who is listed as Oakland's No. 2 running back behind Darren McFadden, did not practice on Wednesday, as he suffered a rib injury in Monday's game against the Chargers.
Analysis: Jones was a popular handcuff draft pick for McFadden owners, but he didn't see a single carry in Week 1 against the Chargers (although he did have six return yards). A healthy Jones would still be an iffy handcuff, however, thanks to the presence of Mike Goodson, who had 13 rushing yards on two attempts in Week 1. Owned in 20 percent of leagues, an injured Jones is probably best left to the waiver wire. And if carries continue to go to Goodson, a healthy Jones may be best left to the wire, too.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones did not see any touches on offense in Week 1 against the Chargers. He returned one kick for 6 yards in the 22-14 loss.
Analysis: Jones entered Monday night listed as No. 2 on the depth chart behind Darren McFadden but Mike Goodson saw carries ahead of him. It looks as though his role will not change unless an injury occurs so he is not an advisable option in Fantasy. Leave Jones reserved in deeper Fantasy formats heading into Week 2 against the Dolphins.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones faces off against the Chargers in Week 1. San Diego ranked 20th in the league in run defense a year ago, giving up under 123 yards per game, and allowed an average of 16.6 Fantasy points to opposing running backs. In one game against the division foe a year ago, Jones gained 39 yards on seven carries.
Analysis: Jones backed up Michael Bush after Darren McFadden went down with an injury last season and rushed for 73 yards on 16 carries. With Bush now in Chicago, the 24-year-old is listed as No. 2 on the depth chart heading into Week 1 and is expected to see carries ahead of Mike Goodson. Owners know that McFadden has been very injury-prone thus far in his career so Jones is about as valuable of a handcuff option as there is in Fantasy. Heading into Week 1, however, Jones should be left for the deepest of formats, consider McFadden should see the bulk of the carries.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones was on the field for the first time in the preseason Saturday against the Lions, after missing the first two games with a hamstring injury. Jones lead the team in rushing attempted in the game, receiving 10 carries for 50 yards, while also catching two passes four eight yards, in a 31-20 win. Jones did not see any touches until the second quarter, though he was used as the teams return man in the kicking game as well.
Analysis: Jones ran the ball well for someone coming off an injury without much playing time last season, and he saw more extensive opportunities in the race for the backup running back spot, as Mike Goodson rushed just seven times for 18 yards. Still, we expect Goodson to come out of camp with the job, so leave Jones for just the later rounds on Draft Day, as a possible handcuff option for the oft-injured Darren McFadden.
News: Raiders running back Taiwan Jones did not dress for Friday's preseason game against the Cardinals as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. Jones also missed Oakland's first preseason game with his injury.
Analysis: Jones and Mike Goodson, who is also banged up, are vying for backup carries behind Darren McFadden this season. Both running backs will have to get healthy and into preseason games to compete for the job. Right now, it appears Goodson will get first crack at it and should be taken in Round 10 or later in most Fantasy drafts. Jones is worth a gamble a couple of rounds later.
News: Oakland running back Taiwan Jones missed Monday's preseason game against the Cowboys due to a hamstring injury suffered in practice a few days back, reports the Sacramento Bee. Jones' injury is not serious and he should be able to return to practice and preseason games shortly.
News: The race to back up running back Darren McFadden has taken an interesting turn. Running back Taiwan Jones is listed second on the Raiders' initial depth chart, ahead of Mike Goodson. But Jones is battling a sore hamstring, and Goodson has looked impressive.
Analysis: We still would bet on Goodson finishing the preseason as McFadden's primary backup. Jones is a nice talent with excellent speed but might not be up for a heavy workload given his small size. Goodson is worth a pick in Round 10 or so as a handcuff for McFadden while Jones is worth a gamble a couple of rounds later.
News:Darren McFadden has been one of the NFL's dynamic running backs over the past two seasons, but he's been unable to stay healthy, missing 19 games because of injuries including a foot issue that kept him out of the final nine games last season. That means a good backup or two is important. Taiwan Jones might help fill that role; the speedy, nimble back has made some flashy plays this summer and is comfortable in the Raiders offense. "In this offense I feel like it's a fit for all of us," said Jones, who is also working as a kickoff and punt returner in camp. "I'm pretty comfortable. I had OTAs for the first time in my career and that definitely helped give me a lot more confidence coming out here."
Analysis: Jones' speed is undeniable, but questions about playing time limit his upside in Fantasy. He's a potential late-round flier in deeper seasonal leagues and all dynasty/keeper formats.
News: Oakland RB Taiwan Jones is listed as questionable for Week 12 against Chicago with a lingering hamstring injury. Jones, who suffered the injury in the Raiders' last game against Minnesota, was unable to practice throughout the past week.
Analysis: With Darren McFadden missing playing time with a foot injury, Jones has stepped in as Oakland's backup to Michael Bush. However, he has recorded more than three carries only once in his past four games. If he is unable to go, Rock Cartwright could see more playing time. Fantasy owners should not consider Jones a starting option in Week 12 regardless of his health status.
News: Raiders RB Taiwan Jones left early Week 11 at Minnesota with a hamstring injury. He had two carries for 3 yards in the victory.
Analysis: Jones isn't much of a contributor in the Raiders offense. The only reason he gets any carries is because starting RB Darren McFadden has been out with a mid-foot sprain. Now that Jones has an injury of his own, you have even more reason to leave him on the waiver wire in Fantasy.
News: Raiders RB Taiwan Jones has his best game running the ball in Week 10 against the Chargers. With Darren McFadden (foot) inactive, he gained a season-high 39 yards on seven carries in the 24-17 win. He has a long run of 12 and averaged 5.6 yards per carry. Jones finished second on Oakland in rushing behind Michael Bush (157 yards) in the victory.
Analysis: Jones has seen some extra carries with McFadden out and provides Oakland with a nice change-of-pace back. He should continue to see an improved role as long as McFadden is out so keep an eye on the situation going forward. But even if he does see some touches in Week 11 against the Vikings, continue to view Jones as more of a low-end Fantasy RB.
News: Oakland RB Taiwan Jones had two carries for one yard during the Raiders 38-24 loss to Denver in Week 9. Jones received additional playing time as starting RB Darren McFadden was ruled out for the game with a foot injury. He now has 19 total yards over his past two games.
Analysis: Jones served as the backup to RB Michael Bush as Oakland racked up 100 rushing yards despite McFadden not being on the field. The 23-year-old rookie was a standout during the preseason, but entered Sundays game having recorded just five carries as McFadden and Bush have monopolized carries. Fantasy owners should keep tabs on McFadden's status as the Raiders have a quick turnaround in Week 10 and travel to San Diego on Thursday night. If he is out again, consider Jones a marginal option in deeper Fantasy formats.
News: With Darren McFadden banged up with a foot injury, rookie RB Taiwan Jones has moved up the depth chart for the Raiders. According to the Sacramento Bee, Jones is likely going to see plenty of action backing up Michael Bush. "You've just got to remember it's just football," Jones said. "I've been doing this my whole life and I'm doing it every day in practice. It's just this time I might get to show everybody else what I can do." So far this season Jones has 30 yards on five carries. "You need good runners because when you look around the league there's a lot of guys that are kind of bruised and battered right now," said Raiders coach Hue Jackson. "I just think you have to have those other guys who can make special plays and Taiwan Jones is one of those guys."
Analysis: Jones is taking everything in stride, but he'll get a nice matchup in Week 9 as the Raiders host the Broncos. Denver has allowed five rushing touchdowns this year and are giving up 117.7 yards on the ground per contest. The rookie has a nice opportunity but still has to prove he's worthy of ownership in Fantasy leagues. Owners depleted at running back should definitely keep tabs on Jones this Sunday. But for now, he holds minimal value.
News: Raiders RB Taiwan Jones turned in his most productive performance of the season in Week 7 against the Chiefs. Jones finished with 18 yards rushing on three carries in the 28-0 defeat, as he was forced into action after Darren McFadden left with a foot injury. He also caught one pass for 30 yards and finished with a season-high four total touches.
Analysis: Jones is listed as third on the team's depth chart and only saw action on Sunday because McFadden left with an injury. The 23-year-old usually doesn't see too much of the field, but that would change if McFacdden misses an extended amount of time. Fantasy owners should keep on eye on the health of Oakland's RBs moving forward. The Raiders on a bye in Week 8 before taking on the Broncos in Week 9.
News: Raiders rookie RB Taiwan Jones made another statement in Sunday's preseason game against the Saints. The speedy back was good for nearly 100 total yards from scrimmage as the No. 3 RB, and he also found pay dirt in the loss. Jones went around right end for a 22-yard TD early in the third quarter and no one laid a hand on him. He ended up with 81 yards on 13 carries including the score and a pair of catches for 18 yards on the day. The hardest thing was trying to slow myself down, Jones said. I was so anxious and excited that I was able to showcase my talent against another team that I was a little too fast sometimes. I just had to slow things down, take a deep breath and try to be patient.
Analysis: Jones missed the first two games with a hamstring injury, but he made his debut Sunday and quickly made it clear hes going to be a factor this season with his blazing speed. Fantasy owners should keep an eye to see how the team works he and his speed into the first-team offense once the games count, but it's hard to imagine he would impact the game enough with Darren McFadden and Michael Bush healthy. Ignore Jones for now on Draft Day, though he's worth keeping an eye on.
News: Rookie RB Taiwan Jones, who clocked a 4.24 40-yard dash during his pro day, showed off his speed Wednesday in Raiders practice, catching a swing pass and turning upfield. God, can this guy run, coach Hue Jackson said. Hes extremely fast, but hes very nimble and very smooth. For a guy thats built like he is (6-0, 195), hes very physical.
Analysis: We'd love to see Jones play a bunch, but we think he's buried on the depth chart in Oakland. Don't be shocked to see him get a few touches each week but don't count on him in Fantasy league play this year. Look to him as an option between pick 15-30 in rookie leagues and as a late-round selection in dynasty/keeper leagues.
News: The Raiders reportedly agreed to a contract with fourth-round draft pick Taiwan Jones, head coach Hue Jackson said Wednesday. The team begins camp on Thursday, and the speedy rookie RB remains hopeful of a prominent role in the backfield despite Darren McFadden and Michael Bush already established.
Analysis: Jones' speed is something the Raiders have always coveted, but we don't see him having an impact greater than one as a change of pace back behind the top-two rushers. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the RB situation in Oakland through camp considering Bush is a free agent and McFadden has dealt with injury in recent years, though Jones is a longshot to see significant playing time. Look to him as an option between pick 15-30 in rookie leagues and as a late-round selection in dynasty/keeper leagues. The Eastern Washington product is only a reserve option in deeper seasonal leagues for now.
News: The Oakland Tribune reports that Raiders rookie RB Taiwan Jones isn't sure what role he will play in 2011 with Darren McFadden and Michael Bush already established. Yet, there's always room for a player with Jones' speed and playmaking ability, Raiders coach Hue Jackson said. "How do you pass up a guy that can make plays like that?" Jackson said. "As I keep saying, you find a special talent, a guy that can score touchdowns as often and as fast as he can, and if he is sitting there, it's hard to pass up those kinds of guys. I wouldn't pass him up, and we didn't pass him up. "... This guy is a tremendous, tremendous football player, and he is something special." Jones is certain that he has the kind of skill set that can't be overlooked. "I'm a real versatile player," Jones said. "I can return kicks, catch passes, block. I'll do whatever it takes to help the team. I'll work as hard as I can to reach my goal of playing in the NFL."
Analysis: Jones has the chance to see playing time on third downs and as a change-of-pace option for the Raiders. Keep in mind also there's a chance Bush could leave as a free agent, and McFadden is injury prone. He's a reserve option in the deepest of seasonal leagues. He's worth a late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a pick between 15th and 30th overall in rookie-only drafts.
News: Raiders rookie RB Taiwan Jones participated in the team's recent players-only workouts but hasn't run. Jones had a metatarsal fracture and subsequent surgery last year, and while he says he's more than 90 percent healed, he is still giving it time to eliminate any possible aggravation and be ready for the start of training camp. "I am trying to get back in shape, but at the same time I'm getting a chance to meet the players and learn as much as I can from them," Jones said.
Analysis: Keep in mind that Jones ran a sub-4.3 in the 40-yard dash on his Pro Day this spring, so it's not like he's on crutches or unable to run. He's got speed on his side, so you know the Raiders will try to find a way to use him. Think of him as a poor man's Jamaal Charles (or a comparable Darren Sproles) -- he has home-run speed and quickness but not the size durability that would make him a first- or second-round pick. He's a reserve option in the deepest of seasonal leagues. He's worth a late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a pick between 15th and 30th overall in rookie-only drafts.
News: The Oakland Raiders once again drafted for speed, taking running back Taiwan Jones out of Eastern Washington with a fourth-round pick. Jones ran for 1,742 yards and averaged 7.9 yards per carry. He reportedly ran the 40-yard dash between 4.27 and 4.35 seconds at his pro day.
Analysis: Jones is very, very fast, but he doesn't have the size to hold up over 20 touches a game. Think of him as a poor man's Jamaal Charles (or a comparable Darren Sproles) -- he has home-run speed and quickness but not the size durability that would make him a first- or second-round pick. Nonetheless, the Raiders will find a way to use him a few times per week, which makes him a reserve option in the deepest of seasonal leagues. He's worth a late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a pick between 15th and 30th overall in rookie-only drafts.
