Falcons to place cornerback Robert Alford on IR

(12/15/2014) The Falcons announced cornerback Robert Alford will have surgery on his wrist Monday and will be placed on injured reserve.

Alford has not played since injuring his wrist in Week 11.

(12/14/2014) Super wideout Julio Jones (hip) heads a list of inactives posted by the Falcons for their Sunday game against the Steelers. The other two injured inactives are cornerback Robert Alford (wrist) and safety William Moore (foot).

The healthy scratches are quarterback Sean Renfree, linebackers James Anderson and Tyler Starr and tackle Jonathan Scott.

(12/12/2014) Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones (hip) is the most notable player listed as questionable for Week 14 against Pittsburgh. other players deemed questionable were fullback Patrick DiMarco (illness) and safety William Moore (foot).

Guard Jon Asamoah (back), guard Justin Blalock (back), wide receiver Harry Douglas (foot), defensive end Stansly Maponga (elbow), defensive tackle Paul Soliai (shoulder) and wide receiver Roddy White (ankle) were all labeled as probable.

Meanwhile, cornerback Robert Alford (wrist) was the only player on the report ruled out for Sunday.

(12/6/2014) Falcons cornerback Robert Alford was officially ruled out for Monday night's contest against Green Bay because of a wrist injury, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Alford suffered the injury in Week 11 against Panthers and hasn't been able to return.

After sitting out his third straight game this Sunday, he'll look to return Week 15 against the Steelers.

Falcons WR Harry Douglas returns to practice Friday

(12/5/2014) Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas (foot) was a limited participant in practice Friday, the team announced.

Douglas was unable to practice Wednesday after catching nine passes for 116 yards in a Week 13 win against the Cardinals but made his return to action Friday. Provided he can continue practicing Saturday, he figures to be active for Monday's Week 14 matchup with the Packers.

Guard Justin Blalock (back) and defensive end Stansly Maponga (elbow) were both limited Friday for a second straight day. Wide receiver Roddy White (ankle) and cornerback Robert Alford (wrist) remained out of practice Friday.

(12/1/2014) Falcons coach Mike Smith said cornerback Robert Alford, who has missed the last two games due to a wrist injury, will be fitted for a cast Monday. Smith said Alford could start practicing as soon as Thursday.

White is the biggest name listed. He was considered questionable coming into the contest due to an ankle injury. He was unable to practice all week due to the issue. Soliai was also listed as questionable coming into the game.

(11/21/2014) The Falcons are all but perfectly healthy for their Sunday game against visiting Cleveland. Cornerback Robert Alford (wrist) and offensive tackle Jonathan Scott (hamstring) are out, but the other eight players on their injury report are probable.

That group includes guard Jon Asamoah (shoulder), defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (knee), wide receivers Drew Davis (foot), Harry Douglas (foot), Julio Jones (illness) and Devin Hester (wrist) and running backs Steven Jackson (illness) and Patrick DiMarco (illness).

(11/16/2014) Falcons cornerback Robert Alford was forced out of Sunday's game against the Panthers with a wrist injury, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Alford sustained the injury in the opening period and was escorted back to the locker rook for further evaluation. The team ruled him questionable for the remainder of the game.

(12/16/2013) Falcons linebacker Paul Worrilow has gotten used to leading the way in tackles, but he got help from an unlikely source in defensive back Robert Alford Week 15 against the Redskins.

Both players had nine tackles -- four solo for Worrilow and five solo for Alford. It was the seventh straight game in which Worrilow recorded at least nine, giving him an average of 13.1 during that stretch. Alford's previous high was only five.


Falcons rookies come through with picks

(11/3/2013) The Falcons got a pair of first-half interceptions from their rookie cornerbacks Week 9 at Carolina. First-rounder Desmond Trufant recorded his first career pick early in the second quarter, ending Cam Newton's streak of three games without an interception. Second-rounder Robert Alford recorded his second career pick late in the second quarter, barely keeping his feet in bounds on a long pass to the back corner of the end zone to end a scoring threat just before halftime.

Trufant finished with five tackles, including four solo. Alford finished with two tackles, including one solo.

Alford has been dealing with an ankle injury. Peters has a shoulder issue, and Coffman is battling a knee injury.

McClain was second on the team with 10 tackles, including eight solo, and Alford recorded his first ever interception. Alford also had a tackle.

(4/26/2013) Cornerback Robert Alford of Southeastern Louisiana has been selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the NFL draft. Alford impressed scouts at the Senior Bowl after recording 10 interceptions, including four in the 2012 season, at Southeastern Louisiana. Alford also returned punts and kickoffs in 2012, taking advantage of his 4.39 speed in the 40-yard dash.
