Vontaze Burfict among Bengals' inactives in Week 3

(9/21/2014) Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concussion) is inactive as expected after being listed as doubtful on the team's final Week 3 injury report.

Other players who were listed as doubtful that are inactive include running back Rex Burkhead (knee), linebacker Sean Porter (hamstring), guard Kevin Zeitler (calf) and defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (knee). Wide receiver Marvin Jones (foot) and cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris are also inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Titans.


Bengals release Friday injury report

(9/19/2014) The Bengals have ruled out wide receiver Marvin Jones for the Sunday game against Tennessee with a foot injury that has prevented him from playing in either of the first two games. He is the lone certain scratch listed on the Friday injury report.

Several players have been deemed doubtful, however, including linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concussion), running back Rex Burkhead (knee), linebacker Sean Porter (hamstring), defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (knee) and guard Kevin Zeitler (calf).

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap (knee), offensive lineman Mike Pollak (knee), tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) and safety Shawn Williams (groin) are all listed as probable.

(9/19/2014) Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict could be looking at inactivity Sunday against Tennessee if he doesn't recover quickly from a concussion that again prevented him from practicing Friday, per the team website. He has missed three straight sessions.

Burfict has been dealing with the issue all season. He sustained a concussion in Week 1 before a recurrence of the head injury last Sunday against Atlanta.

(9/14/2014) Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was slow walking off the field in the third quarter Week 2 against Atlanta with what at first seemed like a recurrence of the concussion he suffered in Week 1. The Bengals announced he had a stinger, however, and ruled him out for the rest of the game.

Burfict, the league's leading tackler with 171 last season, had four tackles, including two solo, before leaving.

(9/5/2014) The Bengals unveiled a lengthy list of players for their final injury report leading up to Sunday's season opener against the Ravens. Running back Rex Burkhead (knee) and wide receiver Marvin Jones (foot) were already ruled out.

Deemed doubtful were linebacker Sean Porter (hamstring) and wide receiver James Wright (concussion). Cornerback Darqueze Dennard (hip) was the only listed questionable. Linebacker Vontaze Burfict (hamstring), tight end Tyler Eifert (shoulder), running back Cedric Peerman (hip), guard Mike Pollak (knee) and tackle Andre Smith (concussion) were all listed probable for Sunday.

(8/22/2014) The mystery surrounding the contract extension of Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has been addressed by Marvin Lewis. Bottom line: Nobody has signed on the bottom line.

"As you know, we believe it here [when] the club and the player have signed off," Lewis said after Friday practice. "It's not signed off."

ESPN had reported Wednesday that the two sides had agreed to a four-year deal worth $20 million and that Burfict would receive $7.6 million in his first year.

It is unknown if there is a connection to the two facts. Speculation is that the deal has been held up by one side or the other.

The team is apparently just being cautious with Burfict, who played Sunday after being listed as probable with the head injury. Newman has missed the last two games with his ailment.

Both could be rested Sunday against Baltimore. The Bengals have already clinched the AFC North championship.
