(12/26/2013) Two premier Bengals defenders were given the red light for Thursday practice. Linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concission) and cornerback Terence Newman (knee) were sidelined.

The team is apparently just being cautious with Burfict, who played Sunday after being listed as probable with the head injury. Newman has missed the last two games with his ailment.

Both could be rested Sunday against Baltimore. The Bengals have already clinched the AFC North championship.

(11/17/2013) Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict had a huge game in Week 11, and he played a big role in a 41-20 win over the Browns.

Burfict led the team with 15 tackles -- 10 solo -- the biggest of which helped the team expand its lead in a huge second-quarter rally. Burfict forced a fumble when he took down Chris Ogbonnaya near the sideline, then picked up the ball and returned it 13 yards for the score.

Burfict entered the game without a forced fumble or touchdown in his career. He now has 118 tackles on the season in 11 games.

He left the game late in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be a concussion -- team doctors had to assert themselves and essentially force Burfict to the sideline for further exams. 

The Bengals host Cleveland in Week 11. 


Vontaze Burfict picks up just five stops

(11/1/2013) Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict had a relative quiet game in Week 9 against the Dolphins Thursday, as he failed to register double-digit tackles for the first time in four games.

Burfict finished the game with a quiet line, finishing with just five solo stops in a 22-20 overtime loss. He recorded no other stats in the game.

Burfict still have 90 tackles through nine games, putting him well on pace to obliterate his total from his rookie season, when he finished with 127.
