Ravens cut a pair of players

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/17/2014) The Ravens waived receiver Aaron Mellette and linebacker Adrian Hamilton on Tuesday before their minicamp kicked off. Both players were on injured reserve last year.

Ravens need 'move-the-chains' receiver

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/26/2014) Asked what the Ravens' offense lacks, wideout Torrey Smith mentioned a "move-the-chains" receiver like Anquan Boldin. Of course, Baltimore traded Boldin following its Super Bowl victory last year.

“I don’t want to say an Anquan, but just a guy that’s like a move-the-chains guy," Smith told the Baltimore Sun. "That’s probably someone that we need on a consistent basis. Another weapon like that is just another person that Joe [Flacco] can rely on.”

Second-year pro Marlon Brown returns to the receiving corps, while Baltimore could lose unrestricted free agent Jacoby Jones and restricted free agent Tandon Doss. The other four receivers on the roster -- Deonte Thompson, Kamar Aiken, Gerrard Sheppard and Aaron Mellette – all are unproven, the report said.

Aaron Mellette cleared to start running

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/4/2014) Ravens second-year wideout Aaron Mellette tweeted that he's been cleared to start running, calling it "the best news I heard in a while." The seventh-round pick out of Elon was inactive Week 1 before going on injured reserve with torn cartilage in his knee.

He caught nine passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns in the preseason.

Deonte Thompson doubtful for Sunday with foot injury

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/13/2013) The battered Baltimore receiving corps got no better news on Friday with the absence of Deonte Thompson from practice with a foot injury. Thompson has been listed as doubtful for the game Sunday against Cleveland.

The Ravens are already missing Jacoby Jones (knee) and Aaron Mellette, who is out for the season.

Ravens place Aaron Mellette on IR

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/11/2013) Ravens wide receiver Aaron Mellette has been placed on IR and is out for the season, the team is reporting.

Mellette performed well in the preseason as a rookie seventh-round pick with nine catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns. He was considered a healthy scratch for the opener against Denver and missed no practices until Wednesday.

The timing seems odd because John Harbaugh had spoken on Monday about activating Mellette for games. "We'll just have to see how it all shakes out," he told the Baltimore Sun. "There's nothing that he's doing that wouldn't make him a possibility to be active."

The Ravens activated just four receivers for their opener against Denver. The strategy proved costly when Jacoby Jones left the game with a sprained MCL.

Ravens have big draft haul

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/2/2013) In addition to first-round pick Matt Elam and second-round choice Arthur Brown, notable players the Ravens drafted include Missouri Southern State defensive tackle Brandon Williams, Ohio State linebacker John Simon, Harvard fullback Kyle Juszczyk, Notre Dame defensive tackle Kapron Lewis-Moore, Elon receiver Aaron Mellette and Cal cornerback Marc Anthony.
