Steelers OLB Jarvis Jones eligible to practice Nov. 3

(10/24/2014) Steelers outside linebacker Jarvis Jones could return to practice as early as Nov. 3, the team is reporting. He has been sidelined since undergoing wrist surgery and was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list.

Jones cannot return to game action until Nov. 17 against Tennessee. He played in the first three games of the season and registered two sacks.

(9/22/2014) Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier suffered a sprained MCL Sunday against the Panthers and will undergo an MRI Monday, according to ESPN. 

Linebacker Jarvis Jones likely needs wrist surgery after getting hurt Sunday and will be sidelined indefinitely. Cornerback Ike Taylor could also miss some time after suffering a broken arm against Carolina.


Steelers DST scores in Week 3 rout

(9/22/2014) The Steelers DST enjoyed itself Sunday night in Carolina, producing three sacks, two turnovers and a touchdown in a 37-19 win.

The biggest play came early in the fourth quarter when the Panthers' Philly Brown fumbled on a punt return and safety Robert Golden recovered in the end zone. It was one of two fumble recoveries for Pittsburgh, which got a sack-fumble from outside linebacker Jarvis Jones.

Linebacker Arthur Moats and nose tackle Steve McLendon also sacked Cam Newton. Pittsburgh allowed just 42 rushing yards in what was easily its top defensive performance this year.

The Steelers DST has a chance to dominate again Week 4 against the lowly Buccaneers.

(9/7/2014) Steelers linebacker Jarvis Jones filled the stat sheet Sunday against Cleveland. He not only tied for third on the team with six tackles, but he recorded one of three sacks and added another tackle for loss.

Jones had five solo tackles, which ranked only behind Troy Polamalu among Pittsburgh players. He will try to maintain his momentum Thursday against Baltimore.

Coach Mike Tomlin has referred to the injury as "minor." Still, it seems unlikely Jones will play Saturday against the Giants.

(12/27/2013) Linebacker Terence Garvin, who made his first start in Week 16, won't make his second on Sunday. He is the lone Steelers player ruled out for the game against the Browns. Fellow linebacker Jason Worilds (abdomen) is questionable while the other injured are probable.

They are guard David DeCastro (back), linebacker Jarvis Jones (illness), defensive end Brett Keisel (foot) and wide receiver Markus Wheaton (foot). All were full participants in Friday practice.

(10/31/2013) The Steelers are not dissatisfied with linebacker Jarvis Jones despite his benching, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Jones barely played Sunday in Oakland and has been used infrequently after starting four games. Mike Tomlin explained his removal from the lineup by saying he was struggling with details. But linebacker Keith Butler yelled at Jones on the sideline last week after he lost contain on Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor.

Despite that, Butler claimed he is still high on Jones. "We are not dissatisfied with him," Butler said. "It is nothing like that. He is going to be a good player for us. Right now we are going to do what we can to win ballgames, and whatever that takes is what we are going to do."

Jones explained that defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau wants him to be more "technically sound."

The good news is that though defensive end Brett Keisel (abdomen) and linebacker LaMarr Woodley (knee) were limited, both are expected to return to practice this week and play Sunday against the New York Jets. The bad news is that linebacker Jarvis Jones has a head injury and was unavailable. His status going forward is unknown.
