Cardinals cut O'Brien Schofield, move Ryan Swope to retirement list

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/25/2013) In addition to signing defensive end John Abraham and offensive tackle Eric Winston on Thursday, the Cardinals released linebacker O'Brien Schofield and placed rookie receiver Ryan Swope on the reserve/Retired list. Linebacker Kenny Rowe was also signed.

Schofield's post-college career has been littered with bad luck: He tore his ACL during a 2010 Senior Bowl practice, then came back strong in 2011 with 4.5 sacks. He had 4.0 sacks last year before ankle surgery forced him to injured reserve.

Swope has dealt with concussion symptoms that go back to his college days since being drafted by the Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Arians: Ryan Swope's status coming soon

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/23/2013) Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told XTRA 910 AM in Phoenix he expects to know Ryan Swope's status this week. Swope has yet to pass a physical and be cleared for camp due to post-concussion symptoms that kept him out of spring workouts with the team.

Cardinals surprised by Ryan Swope's concussion symptoms

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/24/2013) Cardinals rookie receiver Ryan Swope has yet to practice with his new team because of concussion-related symptoms that have kept him sidelined. Swope reportedly suffered four concussions over his college career. Arizona coach Bruce Arians isn't sure what will happen next.

"We were very, very, very surprised about it," Arians said about the head issues to NFL.com. "I'm not sure what he can do, I'm not sure what the doctors are going to do at this point. I hope ... because the kid is a great talent, and it would be a shame. But having Austin Collie last year, go through this same thing, it's scary. ... Only [rookie] I'm worried about is Swope with his head."

Swope still not at practice

(6/12/2013) Cardinals rookie receiver Ryan Swope is still not practicing, ESPN reports. He's suffering from concussion-related symptoms.

Arians says Swope 'will be fine'

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/4/2013) The Arizona Sun reports that Cardinals rookie receiver Ryan Swope did not attend Monday's OTA practice, apparently because of concussion-like symptoms stemming from head injuries suffered in college. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians declined to provide details. “We don’t have injury reports at this time of year,” Arians said. Asked if he was concerned about Swope, Arians said, “no, he’ll be fine.” A sixth-round pick, Swope suffered four concussions during his career at Texas A&M. Last week, teammate Larry Fitzgerald said on SiriusXM that Swope had missed practice time because of a concussion.

(5/29/2013) ESPN reports that Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald said Wednesday during a radio interview that rookie receiver Ryan Swope, a sixth-round choice in the 2013 draft, has missed practice time while working through issues related to the concussions he suffered in college at Texas A&M.
