Rams defense struggles vs. Vikings in Week 1

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/7/2014) The Rams defense came up short in Week 1, recording just one sack and no turnovers in the team's 34-6 loss to the Vikings.

Linebackers Jo-Lonn Dunbar and Alec Ogletree split the sack, leaving the Rams' vaunted front four to be shut out in the game. Minnesota quarterback Matt Cassel was able to complete 68 percent of his passes, and the Rams surrendered a long rushing touchdown to wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, though they did do a good job limiting Adrian Peterson to 75 rushing yards on 21 carries. The Rams will hope to bounce back in Week 2 against the Buccaneers.

Alec Ogletree 'an ideal fit' for Gregg Williams' defense

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/15/2014) Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree "would seem to be an ideal fit for Gregg Williams’ attack-style defense," reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Ogletree had 117 tackles, six forced fumbles, an interception and 1.5 sacks as a rookie.

“It’s a lot of the same stuff we did last year, but it’s just a lot more aggressive,’’ Ogletree said.

Ogletree said he feels ready to take a step forward in Year 2.

"It’s like night and day,’’ he said. “When I first started last year, I was kind of nervous, trying to learn the position and to learn what I needed to do on the play. This year, I feel a lot more comfortable. I just feel like I’m able to go out there and just play and have fun."

Alec Ogletree to increase sack total?

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/9/2014) With the Rams hiring Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator, the team likely will blitz more on third down, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. That could mean more "pass-rush sorties" by linebacker Alec Ogletree, the report said.

Ogletree had 1.5 sacks during a fine rookie year in which he recorded 118 tackles, nine passes defensed, six forced fumbles and an interception.

Alex Ogletree breaks out in preseason game

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(8/25/2013) Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion for Rams rookie linebacker Alec Ogletree in Saturday's preseason loss at Denver.

"I had a great week of practice and each week I've been trying to get the game to be a little bit slower. So this week, the game was definitely a lot slower for me," Ogletree said after the game.

The rookie stripped Ronnie Hillman, recovered the fumble, and scored on a 13-yard return in the second quarter to make the score 17-7 Rams.

Ogletree didn't stop there, however. He also picked off a Peyton Manning pass just before halftime to set up a 58-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein. Ogletree added six tackles and two pass breakups in a breakout performance.

Rams draft Ogletree

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4/25/2013) With the 30th pick in the first round, the Rams selected linebacker Alec Ogletree out of Georgia. Ogletree's off-field issues had everything to do with him slipping down draft boards. Considered the most athletic player on a Georgia team that included Jarvis Jones, Ogletree's DUI arrest a week before the combine raised plenty of red flags and scared off potential suitors in the process. There's also the concern that Ogletree (6-3, 242, 4.68 40) is a finesse player, the last thing you want to hear when describing a linebacker. That said, he's solid in coverage, which makes him a three-down player, and he oozes athleticism. The bottom line, however, will probably come down to whether Ogletree can avoid the trappings of money and fame that come with the NFL lifestyle.
