Colts Bjoern Werner: 'I can be a baller' when healthy

(5/28/2015) Since he was selected in the first-round of the 2013 draft, Colts defensive end Bjoern Werner has been banged up and bruised with various injuries. 

For Werner, playing through these ailments has frustrated him through the first two years of his career. He's totaled 68 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks through 28 regular-season games int wo seasons. 

"I don't want to sound cocky, but personally, I feel like when I'm out there and healthy, I can be a baller," Werner said, via the Indianapolis Star. "I can do it all. You always have to get that mojo going of course. But I'm telling you, I'm confident I can be an NFL player and a starter in this league."

(1/18/2015) Colts linebacker Bjoern Werner will miss Sunday's AFC Championship Game, as he has been listed as inactive for the game. Werner dealt with a shoulder injury  during the last few weeks of the regular season, but was able to play through it.

He totaled 50 tackles on the season including four sacks in 15 games.

The Colts are currently 7-point underdogs against New England.

(1/4/2015) Colts running back Trent Richardson, who was questionable with an illness, is active for Sunday's playoff game against the Bengals. He'll continue to back up Dan Herron.

All the Colts who were probable on the injury report also are active. The list includes wideout Reggie Wayne (groin), tight end Dwayne Allen (knee), linebacker Jerrell Freeman (hamstring), guard Joe Reitz (ankle), linebacker Erik Walden (knee) and linebacker Bjoern Werner (shoulder).

Indy is a 3.5-point home favorite.


Colts unveil final injury report for playoff game vs. Bengals

Running back Trent Richardson (illness) is the only play listed as questionable. While A.Q. Shipley (ankle) is listed as doubtful and Hugh Thornton (shoulder) has been ruled out.

(12/26/2014) Colts coach Chuck Pagano told reporters tight end Dwayne Allen (knee), tackle Gosder Cherilus (groin) and linebacker Bjoern Werner (shoulder) will all miss Sunday's regular season finale against the Titans, per the team's official website. The Colts have already clinched the No. 4 seed, and are taking a cautious approach with their injured players this week. 

The Colts remain a 7-point road favorite against the Titans.

(10/8/2014) Four of the six players on the Colts injury report are dealing with ankle problems. Those ruled out are guards Jack Mewhort (ankle) and Hugh Thornton (back), defensive tackle Arthur Jones (ankle) and cornerback Darius Butler (ankle).

Linebacker Jerrell Freeman (hamstring) is questionable while fellow linebacker Bjoern Werner (ankle) is probable.

(9/16/2014) With Colts linebacker Robert Mathis out for the season, 2013 first-round pick Bjoern Werner is under the gun to get pressure on the quarterback. It didn't happen in Monday's loss to the Eagles, as Werner registered one hit on quarterback Nick Foles.

"Outside of a couple pressure plays during the preseason, Werner has done very little this season," notes ESPN.com. He has five tackles and no sacks through two regular-season games after recording 2.5 sacks as a rookie.


Colts GM wants Bjoern Werner to get stronger

(1/16/2014) Colts general manager Ryan Grigson has challenged 2013 first-round pick and outside linebacker Bjoern Werner to bulk up in the offseason.

"He knows he needs to get stronger. He knows that," Grigson said in his postseason press conference.

Grigson did add that he felt Werner got better against the run as the year progressed. Werner started just one game in 2013 and managed 18 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks.


Colts largely healthy for Saturday's showdown

Among the 10 players listed on the injury report, only defensive lineman Fili Moala (knee) was unable to play.

(1/3/2014) The Colts have listed 10 players as probable for the playoff clash Saturday against Kansas City. All have been full practice participants throughout the week aside from wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, who was limited with a hamstring pull on Wednesday. The only other offensive probable is lineman Mike McGlynn (elbow).

The defensive probables are defensive backs Sergio Brown (groin), Darius Butler (quad), Vontae Davis (groin) and Greg Toler (groin), linemen Ricky Jean Francois (foot) and Cory Redding (shoulder) and linebackers Bjoern Werner (ankle) and Robert Mathis (rest).

(10/28/2013) Colts rookie linebacker Bjoern Werner has missed the last three games with a foot injury, but the first-round pick might be ready to return Week 9 at Houston. Werner practiced on a limited basis Monday.

"We’ll see how he comes in (Tuesday)," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said, per ESPN. "He felt good with what he did leaving the practice field and hopefully he comes in (Tuesday) morning and feels great and then amp it up a little more on Wednesday. (9/30/2013) Colts coach Chuck Pagano had "bad news" Monday regarding the status of rookie first-round pick Bjoern Werner, who sustained a foot injury Sunday against the Jaguars. Pagano said an MRI revealed Werner sustained a torn plantar fascia, which will keep him sidelined 4-6 weeks.
