We expect a similar game this time around. Mare is just a No. 2 Fantasy K for Week 14.

We're not huge fans of the Seahawks offense but do expect some positive changes as far as scheme goes. Mare is worth a look late in the deepest of leagues.

Analysis: The Seahawks had a rough finish to a mostly disappointing season, and Mare fell right in line. Analysis: The Seahawks offense has been dreadful the past three weeks, and Mare’s Fantasy stats have suffered because of it. They could have a bit more success Week 17 against the Titans, but Mare should only be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option at best for that game.
News: The Seahawks were embarrassed by the Bucs in Week 15 and kicker Olindo Mare was not able to even attempt a field goal in the loss. He finished 1 for 1 on PATs for one point.
Analysis: Mare has exactly two points in his last two games combined. He's connected on 18 straight field goals with a club-record 19th on the horizon. It didn't come on Sunday, however. Likely coming in Week 16 at Green Bay, we only consider Mare a No. 2 Fantasy option for that game.

Analysis: The Seahawks did a whole lot of nothing on Sunday and Mare's owners paid the price. He's been a nice, reliable kicker since moving to the Emerald City, but the Seahawks offense is nowhere near good enough to make Mare a usable Fantasy option in most leagues. Seattle hosts Tampa Bay in Week 15 though, which is a quality matchup.

Analysis: The Seahawks don't have the most consistent offense, but it's good enough to give Mare a couple field-goal attempts every week. He's not an elite Fantasy option, but he's a perfectly serviceable one for Week 14 at Houston.

Analysis: Mare was a solid pick-up for Week 9 as the Seahawks were facing a poor Lions defense in the game. Seattle won't likely score as many points Week 10 at Arizona as the Cardinals defense is a lot better than Detroit's. Think of Mare as a low-end Fantasy option for that game.
News: Seattle kicker Olindo Mare made his only field goal from 43 yards and was 2 of 2 on extra points Sunday at Dallas.
Analysis: Mare is a No. 2 Fantasy kicker most weeks, but he can be considered a sleeper for Week 9 at home against Detroit. Seattle should be able to score plenty of points against the Lions, and Mare will have the chance to post a solid outing based on the matchup.
News: Seahawks K Olindo Mare managed his team's only points during a 27-3 loss to the Cardinals in Week 6 when he hit on a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter. It was his ninth field-goal conversion of the season.
Analysis: Mare is a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals since missing two crucial kicks in Week 3 against the Bears. He has managed to hold onto his job and we were expecting a good week for Mare since Arizona has a suspect defense at times. Unfortunately, Seattle struggled to move the ball after posting 41 points in Week 5. Mare is at best a low-end Fantasy option. The Seahawks don't play again until Week 8 against Dallas (bye in Week 7).
News: Seattle K Olindo Mare was the beneficiary of Matt Hasselbeck's return to the Seahawks lineup Week 5 against the Jaguars in a 41-0 win. Mare went a perfect 2 for 2 on field goals in the game, hitting a long of 47 yards. He also successfully converted five extra point attempts.
Analysis: Mare is not typically a recommended Fantasy option as the Seahawks have struggled offensively this season when Hasselbeck had been out. However, even with him back, Mare is not a recommended option Week 6 against the Cardinals.

Mora said following the loss that the Seahawks would look at making changes everywhere. He aimed some of his most pointed comments about Mare.
Analysis: Mare is 5 for 7 on field goals for the season thus far and has gone 6 of 6 on extra points for 21 points on the season. He actually had a solid Fantasy game in Week 3 with 13 points but it was the missed field goals everyone will remember most. Mare is just a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 4 against the Colts.
News: Seahawks head coach Jim Mora was not happy with kicker Olindo Mare after the veteran missed two crucial kicks in a 25-19 loss to the Bears in Week 3. Mare angered Mora, but he did didn't indicate if it will force him to make a change at the position. "You should make those kicks, bottom line," he said. "We'll look at changes everywhere." Mare missed a 43-yard field goal before the half and a 34-yarder right after the half. Outside of those two misses, Mare hit four other field goals and finished with 13 points. He converted from 37, 39, 46 and 46.
Analysis: Mare said he can't recall another time when he's missed two field goals in a game like he did Sunday. "I'm more disappointed in the second one, because the wind was blowing that way," he said. "I should have played it more to the right." The Seahawks could always bring back Brandon Coutu if they aren't happy with the veteran Mare, but it seems they might give him another chance to make things right. For now, Mare is a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 4 against the Colts.

We like Mare as a low-end No. 1 kicker this week, worth claiming off waivers if you're looking for a one-week helper. He will have some bad weeks, though, so he's tough to call a reliable kicker week in and week out.

Whether Seattle honors the second season of that deal or finally chooses Coutu, a seventh-round pick in 2008 so valued he was on the roster last season as a rare backup kicker, is one of the decisions the Seahawks must make by Saturday afternoon's deadline to set a 53-man roster for the regular season. Team president Tim Ruskell has said Seattle won't carry two kickers again this season.
Analysis: Mare made his only field goal try Thursday night in the preseason finale against Oakland. He also boomed a kickoff 5 yards into the end zone for a touchback, recalling his strength from last season, then sent another bounding over the head of a returner for a second touchback. News: If it's true that an NFL placekicker is only as good as his last made field goal, Olindo Mare should be magnificent right now. The 36-year-old former Pro Bowl kicker and all-time leader in field goals and accuracy for the Miami Dolphins made 89 percent of his kicks last season, his first with the Seahawks as the replacement for the departed Josh Brown. That was 9 percent better than Mare's career average, and he wasn't even fully healthy. His leg remained weakened into last season from an injury sustained late in 2007 with New Orleans. Mare provided Seattle an even bigger boon -- and boom! -- on kickoffs. His 22 touchbacks tied for second-most in the league. So why in the name of Lou "The Toe" Groza did Seattle keep rookie kicker Brandon Coutu on the roster all last year? And why is Mare battling this unproven kid for his job in training camp? It's no surprise Mare isn't exactly getting a kick out of having to compete. He's months removed from going 24 for 30 on field goals -- many made in wind, rain and snow for a team that went 4-12 with a sputtering offense. "You would think after the year that I had that it would be a, you know, little easier decision," Mare said after practice Friday. "I feel like I was as good as anybody in the league last year, touchbacks, field goals -- we didn't do a bunch of short ones, either."
Analysis: Last week, Seahawks president Tim Ruskell made it clear 2008 might as well be 1908 when it comes to who will kick for Seattle this season. Then again, he's the guy who made Coutu the fourth kicker ever drafted by Seattle, and first since Brown in 2003. Coutu then made 7 of 7 kicks last preseason. "(Keeping two kickers) won't happen again this year," Ruskell said. "We'll go with one guy, and it'll be a nice battle to watch." Special teams coach Bruce DeHaven is more effusive. "I was certainly glad to have Brandon around, because he's just going to be a Cracker Jack kicker in this league, in my opinion," DeHaven said. "I think Brandon is more than ready to kick in the league. He's has the disadvantage right now of going against a guy that is really good, too." Friday, coach Jim Mora's message for Mare was a sobering example of life in the NFL. "Every year is a new year and a new competition," Mora said. "It's a really good competition. I imagine it will go all the way through preseason, and then we'll have a decision to make." Keep an eye on what happens with Mare and Coutu, but the winner will be a No. 2 Fantasy option at best and should not be drafted in any seasonal leagues.
News: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Seattle kicker Brandon Coutu has spent the offseason working with Morten Andersen before he returns to Seattle this month for training camp. Coutu has the intention of winning the kicking job. Mare has one year remaining on a two-year deal. "They wouldn't have kept me if they didn't see something in me," Coutu said. "I'm going to go in there and I know it's going to be an open competition, and I'm going to prepare myself the best I can."

That's something that rarely happened with Josh Brown, who left for St. Louis in the offseason as a free agent.
Analysis: Mare said Western New York's well-known, brutal winters aren't the only times the wind is a factor at a Bills game. He said kickers need to account for winds even in warm, late-summer games because the stadium is open at the corners of one end zone. Also, the rural area surrounding the stadium is wide open to gales off nearby Lake Erie. When Mare is kicking at Buffalo, he is 12-for-13 on field goals and 18-for-18 on extra points in eight career games there, dating to 1997 when he was a rookie with Miami. Consider Mare nothing more than a No. 2 Fantasy kicker Week 1.

Analysis: Normally, watching a camp battle between kickers is about as exciting as watching old women sew quilts, but the Seahawks' placekicker will have a prominent spot in Fantasy because of the club's up-tempo offense (assuming their passing game comes around).
