Buccaneers list 10 players on final injury report for Week 15

(12/12/2014) The Buccaneers have listed 10 players on its final injury repory for Week 15 against Carolina. Linebacker Mason Foster (Achilles), defensive tackle Gerald McCoy (knee), defensive tackle Clinton McDonald (hamstring), wide receiver Solomon Patton (foot), running back Bobby Rainey (ankle), tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins (back) and safety Major Wright (ribs).

Meanwhile, the following players were ruled as probable for Sunday: Tackle Anthony Collins (elbow), linebacker Lavonte David (concussion) and tight end Brandon Myers (calf).

(12/8/2014) Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David is dealing with concussion like symptoms and has been put in the league's concussion protocol. David can't return to practice until he is symptom free.

David 121 tackles and two forced fumbles this season.

(12/5/2014) The Buccaneers released their final Week 14 injury report and the following players are listed as questionable: Anthony Collins, Clinton McDonald, Brandon Myers, Bobby Rainey, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Lavonte David and Mason Foster.

Major Wright, Evan Dietrich-Smith, Luke Stocker and Crezdon Butler are listed as probable. The Bucaneers take on the Lions Week 14.


Buccaneers missing four players at Thursday's practice

(12/4/2014) The Buccaneers were without running back Bobby Rainey, tight ends Austin-Seferian Jenkins and Brandon Myers and defensive tackle Clinton McDonald at Thursday's practice

Rainey injured his ankle in Week 13's loss to the Bengals and also missed practice on Wednesday. Seferian-Jenkins (back) and McDonald (hamstring) both missed Week 13.

The Bucs take on the Lions in Week 14. 


Six questionable Buccaneers sidelined Sunday

(11/30/2014) Six of the seven Buccaneers designated as questionable for he Sunday game against the Bengals have been ruled out. They are linebacker Lavonte David (hamstring), center Evan Dietrich-Smith (illness), defensive tackle Clinton McDonald (hamstring) and tight ends Brandon Myers (calf), Luke Stocker (concussion) and Austin Seferian-Jenkins (back).

The lone exception is safety Major Wright (shoulder), who has been given the green light.

(11/28/2014) The Buccaneers listed 10 players on its final injury report for Sunday's contest against Cincinnati. Defensive end Da'Quan Bowers (knee), safety Dashon Goldson (illness) and running back Charles Sims (ankle) were the only three players deemed probable.

Meanwhile, the following seven players were labeled as questionable for Week 13: Linebacker Lavonte David (hamstring), center Evan Dietrich-Smith (illness), defensive tackle Clinton McDonald (hamstring), tight end Brandon Myers (calf), tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins (back), tight end Luke Stocker (concussion) and safety Major Wright (shoulder).

(11/28/2014) Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David returned to the practice field on Friday, as he continues to work his way back from a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined in Week 12, reports the Tampa Bay Times. David is tied with DeAndre Levy and Luke Kuechly for the league-lead in tackles (116) this season. He has registered 10-plus tackles in seven of his first 10 games played.

(11/23/2014) The Buccaneers have listed WR Robert Herron, RB Mike James, CB Crezdon Butler, CB C.J. Wilson, LB Lavonte David, T Kevin Pamphile and DE Da'Quan Bowers as inactive against the Bears Week 12.

David was the only player listed on the injury report. He came into the game questionable due to a hamstring injury. David was able to get through limited practice Wednesday, but did not participate in practice Thursday and Friday.

(11/23/2014) Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David, who shares the league lead in tackles with 116, won't be able to add to his total on Sunday. According to the Tampa Bay Times, David will sit out his first game of the season in Week 12 against the Bears with a hamstring injury. David was unable to practice Thursday and Friday because of the issue.

His next chance to return will come Week 13 against Cincinnati.

He was labeled doubtful for Sunday's game with an ankle injury. Alterraun Verner (hamstring) and Anthony Collins (foot) were the only other players deemed doubtful.

(6/16/2014) Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David could blitz less under coach Lovie Smith's simpler defensive scheme, reports SportsTalkFlorida.com. David had 144 tackles, six sacks, five interceptions and two forced fumbles last year.

"It’s just giving me an opportunity to play faster, an opportunity to see the whole field and learn everything, learn what everybody is doing," David said of the new scheme. "It hasn’t changed nothing much. I’m still in the position where I can make plays."

David said he'll blitz "every here and there" and "every now and then."


Buccaneers' defense could spark turnaround

(1/29/2014) New general manager Jason Licht thinks the Buccaneers' defense could jumpstart a quick turnaround in Tampa Bay.

“We have a lot of core players on this team that I am very excited about — (defensive tackle) Gerald McCoy, (linebacker) Lavonte David, (cornerback) Darrelle Revis and (safety) Dashon Goldson, just to name a few,'' Licht said, per the Tampa Tribune. “I don't think we're far away.''

The Bucs, who finished 4-12, ranked 17th in total yards allowed and 21st in points allowed in 2013. New head coach Lovie Smith is a respected defensive mind who should mold this unit into a force.

(1/7/2014) New Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith compared linebacker Lavonte David to the greatest linebacker in franchise history, Derrick Brooks. “There’s not a lot of players like Derrick Brooks," Smith said, per ESPN.com. “It’s not even fair to compare some guys in that way. But, Lavonte David, he has a chance. He’s that younger version coming up. I hear he’s a great guy."

A first-team All-Pro, David became the seventh player in NFL history to record at least five sacks and at least five interceptions in a season, the report said. David has 283 tackles in his two-year career.

(12/16/2013) Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David failed to record an interception for a fourth straight game Week 15 vs. San Francisco, but he was still very active in the 33-14 loss. David was second on the team with 10 tackles (nine solo) and had one forced fumble.

Even though it didn't stand, David actually picked off a pass in the third quarter that deflected off the hands of 49ers tight end Vernon Davis and returned it for a 69-yard touchdown. However, it was nullified because Gerald McCoy was ruled offside. David was shaken up on the play, but he would return to the game.

David has 126 tackles (91 solo) through 14 games. He also has six sacks, five interceptions and nine pass defenses -- all career highs.
