Seahawks' Bruce Irvin says he wants to play for Falcons

(5/14/2015) Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin recently indicated his preference to play for former Seahawks assistant coach Dan Quinn in Atlanta, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"I wanna be there," Irvin said, referring to the Falcons.

The Seahawks recently bypassed the fifth-year option on his contract and Irvin can become an unrestricted free agent after the 2015 season.

(5/4/2015) Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin will become an unrestricted free agent in 2016 after the team decided not to pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract for the 2016 season, reports the Seattle Times.

The Seahawks would've owed Irvin $7.8 million had they picked up the option. Despite not picking up the option, coach Pete Carroll had previously said Irvin is in the team's long-term plans.

"If we pick up Bruce's option it's a great thing, if we don't pick up Bruce's option it only means we aren't picking it up... We want him to be here for a long time," Carroll said.

(5/2/2015) Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the draft, but coach Pete Carroll put them to rest. 

"Bruce has done a great job for us," Carroll told ESPN. "We love him and we want him to be here. Somebody started that rumor about us wanting to trade him. That's not what's going on."

Carroll also denied that the Seahawks' second-round pick, pass rusher Frank Clark , had anything to do with the possibility of being without Irvin.

(5/2/2015) Seahawks general manager John Schneider said the team has not decided whether to pick up the fifth-year option on Bruce Irvin's contract, reports the Everett Herald.

The option would pay Irvin $7.75 million in 2016. In 2014, Irvin totaled 37 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks.

Reports had the Falcons pursuing Irvin prior to Thursday's first round of the draft. 

"He’s under contract," Dimitroff said in an appearance on Atlanta's 92.9 FM, Friday morning. "I didn’t give it a second thought."

On the heels of that report, Pro Football Talk reported that the Falcons are in trade discussions to acquire Irvin.

(2/6/2015) The NFL has fined two Seahawks for striking Patriots players at the end of Super Bowl XLIX, which resulted in a 28-24 New England win.

Outside linebacker Bruce Irvin was fined $10,000 and defensive end Michael Bennett was fined $8,268, according to the Everett Herald.

Both players were involved in a scuffle as the Patriots attempted to run out the clock following Malcolm Butler's game-clinching interception. Patriots tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Michael Hoomanawanui were also involved and fined $8,268 apiece.

Seahawks release final Week 5 injury report

(10/4/2014) The Seahawks listed three players as out for Monday's Week 5 matchup with the Redskins: tight end Zach Miller (ankle), cornerback Tharold Simon (knee) and tackle Alvin Bailey (oblique).

Bailey was a late addition to the practice report, missing practice Friday and Saturday. Miller underwent ankle surgery during the bye and could be back by Week 7. Simon underwent knee surgery in early September and could be close to returning.

Three players were also listed as probable for Monday's game: running back Marshawn Lynch (not injury related), linebacker Bruce Irvin (oblique) and safety DeShawn Shead (knee).

Only Tharold Simon has been ruled out for the game. Bruce Irvin didn't practice throughout the week, but is questionable for the game. 

Kam Chancellor, Cooper Helfet, Marshawn Lynch, Christine Michael, Zach Miller, Mike Morgan and Kevin Pierre-Louis are all probable.

(9/2/2014) The Seahawks announced that the following players weren't able to practice Tuesday: running back Christine Michael (hamstring), tight end Cooper Helfet (knee), center Lemuel Jeanpierre (neck), linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis (hamstring) and cornerback Tharold Simon (knee).

Additionally, the following players were limited participants in practice: wide receiver Kevin Norwood (ankle), linebacker Bruce Irvin (hip) and cornerback Jeremy Lane (groin).

With Michael unable to practice Tuesday, it's become more likely that he'll could sit out the team's Thursday night opener against the Packers.

(8/25/2014) Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin is unlikely to return in time for the team's regular season opener, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.

"He’s doing great. This week is a big week for him to get ready to practice next week," head coach Pete Carroll said Monday. "We plan on him practicing next week, if all goes well, and we’ll see what that means once we get him out there. He’s working really hard — all his change-of-direction stuff, full-speed running, all of that’s happening — but we’re gonna wait and make sure that every day goes well, and hopefully get him out there cranking next week."

Irvin is working his way back from offseason hip surgery.

Report: Jimmy Graham snagged hat in spat

(1/11/2014) More details have emerged about the verbal skirmish between Saints tight end Jimmy Graham and the Seahawks during warmups before the playoff clash in Seattle. It revolved mostly around Graham and Seattle outside linebacker Bruce Irvin, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

The report stated that Graham reached out and ripped the knit hat off Irvin's head. Other Seahawks joined in the verbal sparring and a member of the Saints' staff was forced to restrain Graham.
