Cecil Shorts must prove he can stay healthy

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/5/2014) As Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts enters the final year of his rookie contract, the 26-year-old must prove he can stay healthy and play 16 games, reports ESPN.com. Shorts missed 11 games over his first three seasons, including the last three games of 2013 with a sports hernia.

The website suggests the Jags should hold off on a contract extension until Shorts proves his durability.

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/17/2013) Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts will be placed on injured reserve Tuesday, reports the Florida Times-Union. He sat out Week 15 vs. Buffalo with his lingering groin injury. It was the first game he missed all year.

Shorts finishes the season with 66 catches for 777 yards and three touchdowns.

Cecil Shorts could miss remainder of season

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/16/2013) It's looking more and more likely Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts could be shut down the rest of the season because of a groin injury that forced him to miss Sunday's game against the Bills. Coach Gus Bradley said Monday he will discuss with general manager Dave Caldwell about shutting down Shorts for the rest of the season.

Even Shorts hinted sitting out the rest of the year might be what is best.

"That’s probably the best thing for it, honestly," Shorts said, per The Florida Times-Union.

Cecil Shorts won't need surgery for groin injury

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/16/2013) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts missed his first game of the season Week 15 vs. Buffalo because of a groin injury. However, Shorts told The Florida Times-Union Monday he will not undergo surgery, but he might need "a little therapy" to treat the injury.

Report: Cecil Shorts not expected to play

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/15/2013) The Jaguars do not expect Cecil Shorts to play Sunday against the Bills according to NFL Network. Shorts practiced on Friday after suffering a groin injury and missing work on Wednesday and Thursday. He said the injury will require offseason surgery.

Ace Sanders and Mike Brown are expected to pick up much of the work in his place at receiver.

Jaguars could be without two wideouts on Sunday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/13/2013) Jaguars wideout Cecil Shorts is questionable for Sunday against the visiting Bills. He returned to practice on Friday, but missed the last two sessions with a groin injury.

Fellow wideout Johnathan Cyprien (thigh) has been deemed doubtful for the game.

Two top Jaguars could be game-time decisions

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/13/2013) The availability of Jaguars skill position standouts Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) and Cecil Shorts (groin) for practice on Friday might not determine their status for the game Sunday against Buffalo. Gus Bradley told the team website that both are likely to be game-time decisions.

The pair represents 40 percent of the team's total net yards this season and has scored eight of its 20 touchdowns.

Cecil Shorts a strong play...if he is able to go

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/13/2013) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts has a strong matchup Week 15 against the Bills.

Buffalo has been unable to stop opposing wideouts this season, allowing them to score 25.85 Fantasy points per game. In 13 games, the team has allowed 25 passing touchdowns. Of those 25 touchdowns, 17 has gone to wide receivers. The team has been better lately, allowing just five passing touchdowns in five games. Over that period, the offensive teams they have faced have been a little suspect, so that figure should be taken with a grain of salt.

Shorts comes into the game questionable with a groin injury, and hasn't practiced all week. His participation in Friday's practice will likely determine how much he'll contribute Week 15. Shorts has emerged as the team's top option in the passing game, catching a career-high 66 balls already. He has not been a big play threat this year, and only has three touchdowns. He's a strong play if healthy. If Shorts can't go, Ace Sanders would likely see more playing time.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/11/2013) A groin injury prevented Jaguars wideout Cecil Shorts from practicing on Wednesday.

Shorts has slumped since a strong first half of the season. He has two catches in three of the last five games and just three touchdowns in 2013, though two were recorded in the last two games.

Cecil Shorts scores again in otherwise quiet day

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/6/2013) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts wasn't able to find much room to succeed in Week 14 against the Texans. Fortunately, one of his two catches went for a touchdown, his second in as many weeks, in a 27-20 win.

Shots hauled in just two of six passes thrown his way, as he and Chad Henne struggled to get on the same page at times. He went for just 13 yards, though 6 of them came on a touchdown reception, his third of the season.

Shorts' production has been inconsistent this season, but he remains on pace to finish with a nearly identical yardage total as last season. He enters Week 15 against the Bills with 66 receptions for 777 yards.

Groin injury can't keep Cecil Shorts out

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/4/2013) The Jaguars list 10 probables for their game Thursday night against Houston.

Cecil Shorts puts in limited practice

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Cecil Shorts seeing increased targets since chirping

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/3/2013) Since voicing his displeasure with the handful of targets he saw after his Week 11 game against the Cardinals, Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts has two straight games of 11 targets, turning them into 14 catches for 135 yards and a touchdown.

The first of those two 11-target games came against the Texans, who the Jaguars face on Thursday night. While the Texans have allowed the second-fewest passing yards per game (188) this season, the Jaguars have little choice but to feed Shorts the ball. Ace Sanders (60-plus receiving yards in three straight) has emerged recently as a secondary target, but Shorts is still in the No. 1, and has backed up his call for more targets with two straight solid games.

Shorts could fall back into the 40-yard territory if the Texans choose to focus more on him and allow Sanders to beat them, so there's some risk involved here. Plus, Shorts has scored only two touchdowns this season, and gone over 75 yards just three times. He's a solid, Steve Smith-esque receiver, who can be a solid WR3 and PPR play, but remains a risky WR2 gambit in standard formats.

Cecil Shorts limited in practice

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/2/2013) Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts was limited in Monday's practice by a groin injury. Shorts is preparing to play Houston on Thursday.

Shorts made six catches for 64 yards and a touchdown in the Week 13 win at Cleveland.

Cecil Shorts scores game-winner in return to Cleveland

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/1/2013) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts, who played high school football right down the street from Browns Stadium, appeared destined for a disappointing homecoming Sunday. But it turned out to be a celebration as he played hero in a victory.

Shorts managed just two catches for 15 yards in the first half. His drop of a perfect pass on third down killed a drive. But with 40 seconds remaining in the game, he used a double-move to get behind premier cornerback Joe Haden for a 20-yard touchdown reception that proved to be the game-winner. He finished with six catches for 64 yards.

He will have little time to savor his contribution to the victory. His Jaguars host Houston on Thursday night.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/1/2013) Jaguars wideout Cecil Shorts will be active for his return to his hometown. He was listed as probable with a groin injury, but has been given the green light to play Sunday in Cleveland.

(11/29/2013) The Jaguars placed 12 players on their Friday injury report, but nine are probable for the game against the Browns on Sunday.

The offensive players so designated are linemen Will Rackley (illness) and Cameron Bradfield (bicep) and wide receiver Cecil Shorts (groin). Running back Justin Forsett (foot) is out.

The defensive probables are cornerback Will Blackmon (shoulder), defensive end Andre Branch (knee), safety Winston Guy (shoulder), linebackers J.T. Thomas (ankle) and Geno Hayes (knee) and tackle Roy Miller (shoulder).
