Jaguars WRs quiet in Week 16 win vs. Titans

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12/18/2014) Jaguars wide receivers Marqise Lee led his team with four receptions and 65 yards in his team's 21-13 win over the Titans in Week 16.

The Jaguars managed to pick up just 124 receiving yards on the day and Lee was responsible for more than half of that total while seeing six targets. Allen Hurns was also targeted six times, picking up 26 yards on three receptions. Cecil Shorts caught just two of his seven targets for 15 yards but also completed a nine-yard pass.

Tight end Marcedes Lewis managed just six yards on two receptions but did secure the team's only receiving touchdown on a four-yard strike at the end of the first half. The Jaguars will hit the road to face the Texans in the season finale next Sunday.

Jaguars' Cecil Shorts III leads the way Week 15

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/14/2014) Jaguars wideout Cecil Shorts III led the way Week 15 against the Ravens.

Shorts hauled in six passes, totalling 76 yards. He was Blake Bortles' favorite option, leading the team with 11 targets. A large chunk of Shorts' yardage came on a 30 yard reception early in the first quarter.

Shorts will look for more Week 16 against the Titans.

Jaguars WR Shorts doing himself no favors this season

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/11/2014) The struggles of Jaguars wideout Cecil Shorts this season could cost him dearly, according to ESPN. He is playing in the final season of a four-year contract.

His numbers have weakened every year since 2012, when he broke through with 55 catches for 979 yards and seven touchdowns. His YPR a year ago dropped from 17.8 to 11.8 and he reached the end zone just three times. He has just 40 receptions for 419 yards and one score in 2014.

The Jaguars are likely to allow Shorts walk in free agency, but he claims to be not looking that far ahead.

"That's out of my control," he said. "I don't even think like that. Do I want to be here? Yeah, so we'll deal with that when the offseason comes, but right now we've got three games left so just trying to focus on Baltimore and try to get a little upset going."

Cecil Shorts 'intrigued' by free agency, wants to return to Jaguars

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12/10/2014) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts indicated Wednesday that he's "focused on Baltimore," the team's Week 15 opponent, as well as closing the season out strong but is "intrigued" by free agency, the Florida Times-Union reports.

"I really like what’s going on here," Shorts added. "I like how [general manager] Dave [Caldwell] is building the team, I like what [owner] Shad [Khan] is putting into the team and I’m a huge fan of [coach] Gus [Bradley] and the coaching staff. This is a team I feel is going in the right direction and I would feel terrible if I end up somewhere else and this team [goes], ‘Boom [and gets better],’ because I’ve been through the rough times."

Shorts was held to three yards on two catches in Week 14 despite receving 10 targets. He's managed 40 catches for 419 yards with one touchdown in 2014.

Jaguars' Shorts has third straight season with at least 40 catches

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/7/2014) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts tied rookie receiver Allen Hurns with a team-high 10 targets Sunday against the Texans. However, Shorts couldn't do much despite being heavily targeted, as he finished with two catches for 3 yards.

Despite the poor outing, Shorts became the fifth player in Jaguars history with at least 40 receptions in three straight seasons, joining Jimmy Smith, Keenan McCardell, Mike Thomas and Maurice Jones-Drew.

Shorts, however, had his scoreless streak extended to nine games. Shorts has just one touchdown in 10 games this season.

The Jaguars are back in action Week 15 at Baltimore.

Penalty costs Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts his first TD since Week 3

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/30/2014) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts finished with four catches for 35 yards during a 25-24 win Week 13 vs. N.Y. Giants. He was targeted eight times and his longest catch went 12 yards.

Shorts had a 5-yard touchdown catch on a fourth-and-goal late in the second quarter nullified because of a holding penalty. It would have been his second touchdown catch and first since Week 3.

The Jaguars are back in action Week 14 vs. Houston.

Jaguars' Blake Bortles, Cecil Shorts cleared to play Week 13

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/30/2014) Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles (left wrist) and wide receiver Cecil Shorts (illness) were cleared to play Week 13 vs. N.Y. Giants. Both players were listed as probable on the injury report.

Jaguars healthy for Week 13 game against visiting Giants

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/28/2014) The Jaguars are not in good shape in the standings, but they are in good shape otherwise. All eight players on their Friday injury report at questionable or probable.

The former category consists of linebackers LaRoy Reynolds (neck) and Jeremiah George (ankle). The probables are quarterback Blake Bortles (wrist), defensive ends Andre Branch (groin) and Chris Clemons (knee), safety Josh Evans (elbow), cornerback Demetrius McCray (ankle) and wideout Cecil Shorts (illness).

Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (illness) back at practice Thursday

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/27/2014) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts returned to practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday due to an illness. The Jaguars host the Giants in Week 13.

The Giants are yielding 253.9 passing yards per game. They have allowed 19 passing touchdowns in 11 games.

Breakthrough short-lived for Cecil Shorts

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/24/2014) One week after catching five passes for 119 yards, Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts caught one for 6 Week 12 at Indianapolis. It was kind of like how he caught three passes for 12 yards one week after catching 10 for 103 Week 6 at Tennessee.

To put it another way, Shorts has gone for more than 100 yards in two games this season. He's gone for less than 50 in the other six.

Playing for the Jaguars, he's obviously not much of a scoring threat, having been held out of the end zone since scoring in his season debut back in Week 3. He's the most targeted player on the Jaguars, at least among those who haven't suffered a season-ending injury (apologies to Allen Robinson), but working with a rookie quarterback on the league's lowest-scoring offense, that doesn't count for much.

Given the limitations of his supporting cast, Shorts' big games aren't especially big, and they don't happen often enough for you to bother with him in standard Fantasy leagues.

Jaguars starting wideouts barely heard from Week 12

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/23/2014) Jaguars starting receivers Cecil Shorts and Allen Hurns combined for 19 receiving yards in the 23-3 loss to the Colts. Shorts drew three targets, catching a 6-yard pass, while Hurns caught one of four targets for 13 yards.

They'll face the Giants in Week 13.

Report: Jaguars WR Shorts sustains concussion Sunday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/9/2014) Coming off his most productive game of the season, Jaguars wideout Cecil Shorts has been diagnosed with a concussion from a hard hit in the Sunday loss to Dallas.

Big game doesn't change Cecil Shorts' outlook much

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/9/2014) After a long stretch in the background, Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts broke through in Week 10 against the Cowboys Sunday.

Shorts has been around in recent weeks, averaging 8.0 targets in the team's previous three games, but had just 9 Fantasy points to show for it in that stretch. He eclipsed that total easily Sunday, with his second 100-yard performance of the season, though he still came in second on the team in targets behind Allen Robinson.

Shorts has struggled to get on the same page as rookie quarterback Blake Bortles, and has been the third option in the passing game for long stretches. He can still be productive, but we need to see him show it for more than one game. At this point, Shorts is still just worth a flier on waivers if you want to speculate.

Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts explodes for 119 yards in loss

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/9/2014) The Jaguars lost again Sunday, but wideout Cecil Shorts certainly can't be blamed. He was one of the few bright spots.

Shorts caught a 24-yarder on the first possession, added a team-best 53-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter and finished with five receptions for a season-high 119 yards. It marked his second 100-yard performance in the last five games.

He won't catch any passes next week - the Jaguars are on their bye.

Jaguars WRs Lee, Shorts cleared for Week 10 game

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/9/2014) Jaguars wideouts Marqise Lee (ankle) and Cecil Shorts (hamstring) have been green-lighted for the Week 10 clash against the Cowboys. Both had been listed as probable.

Jaguars list mostly probables on Friday injury report

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/7/2014) Despite having ruled out defensive end Andre Branch (groin), linebacker Jeremiah George (ankle) and guard Brandon Linder (shoulder) for their Sunday game against Dallas, the Jaguars are fairly healthy. All the others on their Friday injury report are probable, including quarterback Blake Bortles (left wrist).

The other injured probables are safeties Sherrod Martin (shoulder) and Josh Evans (shoulder), wideouts Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and Marqise Lee (ankle), running back Jordan Todman (quad) and linebacker Dekoda Watson (hamstring).

Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts returns to practice, probable for Sunday

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/7/2014) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III returned to practice Friday after missing the previous two sessions with hamstring tightness, according to the Florida Times-Union. Shorts was officially ruled probable for Sunday's Week 10 clash in London against the Cowboys.

Shorts has 28 catches for 256 yards and one touchdowns in six games.

Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts plans on playing Sunday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/6/2014) Jaguars wideout Cecil Shorts was sidelined Thursday with hamstring tightness, but has expressed little doubt that he will play Sunday against Dallas.

"Taking today off to rest it and then go out there and practice (Friday) and go from there," Shorts told the Florida Times-Union. "I felt good waking up this morning and [the trainers] were happy with my strength."

Shorts has been out periodicially with hamstring issues since the start of training camp. The issue has also cost him three regular season games.

Jaguars WR Lee in, Shorts out of Thursday practice

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/6/2014) Both good news and bad news accompanied the practice report for the Jaguars on Thursday in regard to their wide receivers.

Cecil Shorts, who left the Wednesday session with a hamstring problem, is not working at all Thursday. But rookie Marqise Lee (ankle) has returned after also leaving practice prematurely Wednesday.

WRs Marqise Lee, Cecil Shorts ailing in Wednesday practice

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/5/2014) Jaguars wideouts Marqise Lee and Cecil Shorts are both limited in practice Wednesday. The former sustained an ankle injury during the session and did not finish it. Shorts is dealing with a hamstring issue, per The O-Zone.

Cecil Shorts returns from jarring hit

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/2/2014) Jaguars wideout Cecil Shorts' head snapped back on a brutal hit by Bengals safety George Iloka in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 33-23 loss in Cincinnati. Shorts returned, however, and finished the game.

He caught five of seven targets for 40 yards, his third straight game under 50 yards. Shorts also was targeted on a 2-point conversion pass, but failed to hold on. He plays the Cowboys in London in Week 10.

Cecil Shorts, Allen Hurns ready to face Bengals

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/2/2014) Jaguars wideouts Cecil Shorts (groin) and Allen Hurns (ankle) are active for Sunday's game in Cincinnati after being listed as probable on the injury report.

Luke Joeckel among notable Jaguars ruled probable for Week 9

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/31/2014) Jaguars coach Gus Bradley told reporters he'd be "shocked" if left tackle Luke Joeckel (concussion) doesn't play Week 9 at Cincinnati. Joeckel returned to practice and was ruled probable for the game, along with cornerback Dwayne Gratz (groin) and wide receivers Cecil Shorts (groin) and Allen Hurns (ankle). Linebacker Dekoda Watson (hamstring) was the only player ruled questionable on the list.

Defensive lineman Andre Branch (groin) and defensive back Will Blackmon (finger) were both ruled out.

Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts held under 50 yards in Week 8

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/26/2014) Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III wasn't much of a factor in his team's loss to Miami in Week 8.

Shorts caught a 22-yards pass and a 6-yard pass from Blake Bortles on the second drive of the first quarter. He only had one more catch the rest of the way. He was targeted eight times and finished with three catches for 41 yards in a 27-13 defeat.

After cracking the 100-yard mark against Tennessee in Week 6, Shorts has totaled 53 receiving yards over his last two games. He'll look to bounce back Week 9 at Cincinnati.

Matchup holds Cecil Shorts in check

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/20/2014) After struggling much of the season, Browns cornerback Joe Haden was back in shutdown form Week 7 at Jacksonville, preventing Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts from following up his 10-catch, 103-yard effort from the week before. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Haden shadowed Shorts much of the day and was physical with him at the line of scrimmage.

That didn't stop rookie quarterback Blake Bortles from throwing the ball Shorts' way, but the two connected on only three of nine targets for 12 yards.

The Jaguars offense being what it is, you can't expect Shorts to be consistent in Fantasy, but if you were excited about him just a week ago, you shouldn't be so quick to dump him based on this performance. It's clear Bortles wanted to get him the ball. The matchup just prevented him from doing so.
