Panthers add Smith to roster

News: The Panthers elevated running back Armond Smith from the practice squad to the active roster Tuesday.
Analysis: Smith will be just roster depth for the Panthers and can be left off Fantasy rosters.

Panthers make their cuts

News: Notable players cut by the Panthers Friday include: receiver Lamont Bryant, defensive tackle Nate Chandler, tight end Joe Jon Finley, safety Jonathan Nelson, safety Jordan Pugh, tight end Nelson Rosario, safety Reggie Smith, running back Armond Smith and linebacker Jason Williams.
Analysis: None of these players were or are expected to put up good enough stats in the first place. Leave them all off rosters.

Browns dump RB Smith

News: The Browns cut running back Armond Smith and signed running back Adonis Thomas, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, which cited a league source. Thomas rushed for 1,071 yards at Toledo in 2011 and performed well in rookie minicamp. Smith didn't make the Browns' final roster last summer.
Analysis: Neither rusher has much of a chance to be productive anytime soon. Keep both off of Fantasy rosters.

Smith let go by Browns

News: The Browns released RB Armond Smith on Tuesday. He was replaced on the roster by Chris Ogbonnaya.
Analysis: Smith was not a factor this season for the Browns prior to getting cut. He should not be owned in any Fantasy format.

RB Smith makes the Browns

News: The Browns opted to keep speedy RB Armond Smith after a sensational preseason combined with the season-ending injury to RB Brandon Jackson. Smith saw a lot of playing time with reserve players and totaled 192 yards on 31 carries (6.2 avg.) with two touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 28 yards.
Analysis: Smith has a shot to be a nice change-of-pace back for the Browns this season behind big guys Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty. For now he's a guy for owners in really deep leagues (20-plus roster spots) and long-term formats to check out, but the former Union College speedster could make an impact if injuries befall the rushers in front of him in Cleveland -- assuming the Browns don't add any other running backs first.

Speedy Smith scores on Friday

News: The Browns boast one RB with great speed and quickness to the hole -- Armond Smith. Smith has been impressive throughout camp and showed he might be a badly needed change-of-pace back by bolting up the middle for an 81-yard TD.
Analysis: Smith might have a shot to make the final roster thanks to his speed, and this jaunt on Friday against the Lions sure will help. Look for him late in long-term formats just in case he does indeed find a chance to do something for the team.
