Eddie Lacy, Sheldon Richardson capture rookie of the year honors

(2/1/2014) The awards for the 2013 NFL season were announced Saturday, and Packers running back Eddie Lacy and Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson won rookie of the year honors for offense and defense, respectively.

Lacy, the 61st overall pick out of Alabama, had 284 carries for 1,178 yards (4.1 yards per carry), with 11 touchdowns in his first year in the league. Richardson, a first-round pick out of Missouri, registered 77 tackles and 3.5 sacks while starting all 16 games this season for the Jets.

Rex Ryan refutes criticism of Sheldon Richardson

(2/1/2014) Rex Ryan has delivered a strong rebuttal to the claim by Hall of Famer Warren Sapp that Jets rookie defensive end Sheldon Richardson lacks pass-rushing skills.

"I believe he can rush the passer," Ryan told the New York Daily News. "Maybe Sheldon doesn't rush the passer like Warren Sapp did. Very few in this league have ever rushed the passer the way Warren Sapp has ... but this is a young man now. This guy is just now scratching the surface."

Richardson started 15 of 16 games and managed 77 tackles, but just 3 1/2 sacks.

(12/27/2013) Cornerback Ellis Lankster (jaw) is the lone non-probable on a lengthy Jets injury report submitted on Friday. There are nine fellow defenders listed as probable for Sunday against Miami.

They are linebackers DeMario Davis (thumb), Garrett McIntyre (knee) and Quinton Coples (shoulder), defensive backs Dawan Landry (hand), Ed Reed (non-injury related) and Antonio Cromartie (hip) and linemen Kenrick Ellis (back), Sheldon Richardson (finger/shoulder) and Muhammad Wilkerson (wrist).

(12/15/2013) Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson switched sides and scored a rushing touchdown during Sunday's contest against the Panthers in Week 15.

Richardson received back-to-back carries at the 1-yard line and punched it in on his second attempt for his first career rushing touchdown. Defensively. He also chipped in with four total tackles (one solo) in a 30-20 defeat.

Among the eight players listed on the injury report, six are expected to take the field in Sunday's game and are considered probable. (10/8/2013) Jets first-round pick Sheldon Richardson dominated Monday night against the Falcons. The defensive tackle out of Missouri outplayed Atlanta center Peter Konz and was in the backfield often.

Richardson finished with five tackles, two for loss, a sack and a pass defended. He has 24 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks this season. Richardson plays the Steelers in Week 6.


Jets DST continues to stuff the run

(10/8/2013) The Jets DST entered Week 5 giving up a league-low 3.0 yards per carry. The unit lived up to its billing by holding the Falcons to 64 rushing yards on 22 attempts, or 2.9 yards per carry.

On the final play of the first half, the Jets completed a goal-line stand, stuffing Jacquizz Rodgers for no gain from the 1. Defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson led the charge on that play, and he also had a sack and two tackles for loss. Defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson recorded the Jets' other sack, giving him four this season, and stripped Matt Ryan for the game's only turnover. Antonio Allen blocked a first-quarter punt.

Although New York gave up 28 points, the Jets DST made several big plays and could cause havoc again in Week 6 against the Steelers.
