News: Giants DB Deon Grant recorded his first interception of the season in Week 9 against the Patriots. He picked off QB Tom Brady in the third quarter and also finished with four tackles in the 24-20 win.
Analysis: Grant continues to see a ton of playing time for the Giants and is having another productive campaign. Continue to view him as a low-end Fantasy DB in IDP formats.
News: Giants coach Tom Coughlin confirmed the signings of S Deon Grant and S Derrick Martin on Tuesday. Coughlin said he likes Grant's character as well as his ability to make smart plays and added that Martin can contribute on special teams.
Analysis: Grant had a pretty good year with the Giants in 2010, recording 72 tackles and three interceptions. He might not play as big of role in 2011, especially since Kenny Phillips is returning to full strength. Grant has minimal Fantasy appeal on Draft Day.
News: The Seattle Seahawks released starting safety Deon Grant on Monday, part of the continuing changes under new coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider. Grant started all 48 games during his three seasons in Seattle and has started 144 consecutive games. He had 78 tackles and three interceptions last season. Grant, 31, was scheduled to make $4 million next season.
Analysis: Grant should wind up somewhere else, but he's not considered productive enough to be anything more than a one-week replacement option off waivers. Keep him off of rosters otherwise.
News: Seahawks DB Deon Grant is having wrist surgery and DE Patrick Kerney will undergo elbow surgery. The team announced Thursday that both veterans were due to have their operations later in the day. The 30-year-old Grant played the last six games with a cast over his left wrist. He said Dr. Carlton Keck, a specialist in Seattle, was to place pins in his wrist and reconstruct a torn ligament. The team expects Grant to be fully recovered by late April or May. The 33-year-old Kerney is having surgery to remove loose cartilage and bone fragments in his left elbow. The team considers the procedure routine and says Kerney's recovery time should be four to six weeks.
Analysis: Grant and Kerney have minimal Fantasy value in IDP leagues heading into 2010, and the Seahawks DST should be considered a No. 2 option next year. The Seahawks need a lot of work on defense to become a viable starting option again in Fantasy leagues.
News: Seahawks DB Deon Grant, who recorded his second interception in Week 15, added his third Week 17 against the Titans. He also had nine tackles, including seven solo.
Analysis: Grant is a decent tackler for a defensive back, but his lack of interceptions makes him hardly worth using in Fantasy IDP leagues. Expect him to go undrafted in 2010.
News: Seattle DB Deon Grant had a big game during an embarrassing loss to Tampa Bay in Week 15. Grant led the team with nine tackles and also had an interception in the game.
Analysis: Grant now has two picks on the season and 64 tackles in 14 games. This great game was an aberration for the safety and he's not a recommended Fantasy IDP player for Week 16 at Green Bay.
News: Notable Seahawks defenders from Week 11 at Minnesota include: LB David Hawthorne (15 total tackles), DB Jordan Babineaux (11 total tackles), DB Deon Grant (10 total tackles), DE Cory Redding and DE Darryl Tapp (two solo tackles, sack each).
Analysis: Of these defenders, Tapp is a decent DL option and Hawthorne remains a solid IDP linebacker. The rest do not register high on the IDP scale. Seahawks play at the Rams in Week 12.
News: The Seahawks defense was able to pick off five Matthew Stafford passes on Sunday in a Week 9 32-20 win over the Lions. David Hawthorne was responsible for two of the interceptions and also led the team in tackles with nine. Josh Wilson picked Stafford off late in the fourth quarter and took the INT to the house, 61 yards the other way. Deon Grant and Jordan Babineaux were responsible for the other two INTs.
Analysis: Hawthorne is a linebacker that has replaced Lofa Tatupu who is out for the season with an injury and should be considered a decent Fantasy option for Week 10 at Arizona. Grant, Trufant and Wilson should be considered low-end Fantasy options in IDP formats.
News: Seahawks DB Jordan Babineaux (10 tackles), LB Aaron Curry (seven tackles) and DB Deon Grant (five tackles, forced fumble) had nice outings in a Week 4 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Curry is the most Fantasy-viable member of this group, and can be used in most IDP Fantasy formats for Week 5 vs. Jacksonville. The other two can be ignored. for the time being.
News: Seattle DL Rocky Bernard totaled nine tackles to tie for the team lead on Sunday of Week 12 in a loss to the Redskins. He tied with Deon Grant with 9 tackles.
Analysis: As an interior lineman, Bernard rarely has performances like this one. Leave him on waivers in Fantasy IDP leagues. The same goes for Grant.
News: Seahawks DB Deon Grant had three solo tackles and one interception during a Week 9 loss to the Eagles. He now has 35 tackles and two interceptions in eight games.
Analysis: Grant has been a solid contributor over his NFL career, recording 60-plus tackles for seven straight seasons. However, he gets just a few picks per season and doesn't get many sacks. He still remains just a low-end Fantasy DB.
News: Seahawks DB Deon Grant made his first interception since the 2005 season when he picked off Marc Bulger in a Week 3 win over the Rams. Grant also made four tackles in the game.
Analysis: Grant is a solid DB, but he doesn't make enough picks to be worth using in IDP leagues. Continue to ignore him in Week 4, as Seattle are off.
News: Seahawks DB Deon Grant totaled two tackles (all solo) and one interception during a Week 14 win against the Cardinals. He now has 60 tackles and three interceptions this season.
Analysis: Grant is having a solid first year with the Seahawks after successful campaigns with the Panthers and Jaguars. Grant remains just a low-end Fantasy DB at this time.
News: LB Leroy Hill (nine tackles), LB Lofa Tatupu (eight tackles), DB Brian Russell (six tackles) and DB Deon Grant (five tackles) all had nice efforts for the Seahawks in their 23-3 win over the 49ers in Week 4.
Analysis: Tatupu is an elite LB in all IDP leagues, while Hill and Grant have minimal Fantasy value. Russell is not worth any Fantasy consideration at this time.
News: Notable Seahawks defenders include: DB Deon Grant (nine total tackles, interception), CB Marcus Trufant (nine total tackles), LB Leroy Hill (nine total tackles, forced fumble), LB Julian Peterson (six solo hits), DL Rocky Bernard (four solo tackles, sack), DB Brian Russell (four tackles, one interception) and DL Brandon Mebane (one tackle, one sack).
Analysis: Of these players, Hill and Peterson are worth a look in all IDP leagues. The rest of the players aren't expected to be contributing this much on a weekly basis. The Seahawks play at San Francisco in Week 4.
News: In the wake of DE Patrick Kerney signing with the Seahawks, DE Grant Wistrom was released, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. Wistrom totaled four sacks, 30 solo tackles, a forced fumble and a pass defensed in 2006. The Seahawks have also reportedly signed safety Deon grant to a six-year deal. He is expected to start at free safety for them. Last year Grant totaled 60 tackles (53 solo) with five passes defensed and two interceptions.
Analysis: Grant is good for around 60 solo tackles per season with a few interceptions and passes defensed. At best, he's a No. 3 Fantasy DB in the deepest of IDP leagues in 2007.
News: Jaguars safety Deon Grant (hamstring) has been upgraded from doubtful to questionable for Week 17 at Kansas City.
Analysis: Grant is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 17.
News: Jaguars safety Deon Grant missed practice Wednesday because of a hamstring injury and was listed as doubtful for the season finale at Kansas City. Grant injured his hamstring early in the second half against the Patriots on Sunday, pulling up lame on Tom Brady's 22-yard touchdown pass to David Thomas. If he can't play, rookie Jamaal Fudge probably would make his first start. Fudge spent the first 10 weeks on the practice squad and was signed to the active roster Nov. 20, two days before Donovin Darius sustained a season-ending knee injury.
Analysis: Neither Grant nor Fudge are worth using in Fantasy play.
News: Jags FS Deon Grant injured his hamstring and did not return vs. the Patriots in Week 16.
Analysis: Grant should not be leaned on in Fantasy play at this time.
News: The Jaguars contained the high-powered Giants offense in Week 11 holding them to 247 yards and just 10 points. DL Bobby McCray had the team's lone sack, while LB Clint Ingram and DB Deon Grant had interceptions.
Analysis: The Jaguars had another strong outing this season and remain an above-average defense. Consider using the Jaguars DST in Week 12 as they take on the Bills. McCray is worth using as a low-end Fantasy DL.
News: The Jaguars DST got a shutout against the Jets with three interceptions and a fumble recovery. DB Terry Cousin had six tackles and an interception. DB Brian Williams had three tackles and an interception. DB Deon Grant had an interception. LB Nick Greisen had a fumble recovery. DL Bobby McCray had 1.5 sacks. DL Rob Meier had a sack. DL John Henderson had a sack. DL Montavious Stanley had a sack. And DL Tony McDaniel had a half-sack.
Analysis: The Jaguars are on a bye in Week 6 but consider the DST and all prominent IDP players excellent starts for Week 7 against Houston.
News: According to reports, Grant has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Analysis: Grant had 68 solo tackles with three interceptions, one sack and one forced fumble in 2003.
