Coles makes TD grab Week 7
|
Updated 10/25/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles made a TD reception on Sunday in a Week 7 blowout win over the Bears. He caught one of five TD passes thrown by Carson Palmer in the game and had two catches in total for 37 yards. Coles' TD pass went for 8 yards and made the score 28-0. | Analysis: Coles continues to play second fiddle to Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati this season but has been able to find the end zone in each of the past two weeks. Coles has not caught for more than 40 yards yet this season and is just a low-end Fantasy option at this point in his career. The Bengals are on a bye in Week 8 then take on the Ravens Week 9. |

| News: Cincinnati WR Laveranues Coles had four catches for 40 yards and a touchdown Sunday against Houston. This was Coles second touchdown on the season and his most receiving yards in a game this year. | Analysis: Coles has struggled this season, but this could be a sign he is starting to become more involved. Coles could be worth adding if you have a roster space in your league, but consider him a No. 4 Fantasy WR against Chicago in Week 7. |
Coles held without stat Week 5
|
Updated 10/11/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Cincinnati WR Laveraneus Coles was held without a stat Week 5 in a 17-14 win at Baltimore. He was targeted only once in the game. | Analysis: Coles has 10 catches on the season for 78 yards and a touchdown. He has not been one of Carson Palmer's primary target this season, with a season high of five catches for 34 yards Week 3 against Pittsburgh. He is not a recommended option for Week 6 against the Texans. |
Coles has another quiet game
|
Updated 10/4/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Bengals WR Laveraneus Coles had another lackluster performance on Sunday in the team's Week 4 game at Cleveland. Coles made only two catches in the game for a total of 24 yards. | Analysis: Coles has two catches or fewer in three of his first four games this season, scoring only once Week 2 at Green Bay. Andre Caldwell continues to outperform Coles on the stat sheet, further devaluing Coles' value. Until Coles has a breakout performance, he is not a recommended Fantasy option. Leave him out of all lineups for Fantasy Week 5 as the Bengals head to Baltimore to take on a tough Ravens defense. |
Coles' best game still a tame one

| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles, who had three catches for 20 yards over the first two games, topped that Week 3 against the Steelers. He still had only 34 yards on five catches. | Analysis: Coles was at least useful this week in PPR leagues, but he hasn't played a big role in the Bengals' passing game so far. In fact, Andre Caldwell has done more than him. He looked like a sleeper coming into the season, but you shouldn't bother using Coles until he has a breakthrough performance. The Bengals visit the Browns in Week 4. |
Coles up against Steelers defense
|
Updated 9/24/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3. The Steelers have allowed 466 net passing yards over the first two games of the season, including three touchdown passes. In Week 2, the Steelers allowed 203 net passing yards and two touchdowns against the Bears in Chicago. | Analysis: The Steelers allowed rookie Johnny Knox to catch six passes for 70 yards and a touchdown and three receivers caught five or more passes in the game. The Steelers pass defense is formidable, but is a lot less effective without Troy Polamalu on the field and Coles could be in line for a useful game in larger Fantasy formats. We consider him a low-end No. 3 WR or flex option. |
Coles scores, does little
|
Updated 9/20/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles had his first touchdown in Cincinnati, but he did little else in Week 2 besides score. Coles had two catches for 9 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 2 yards. | Analysis: Coles should play better than he's shown so far with three catches for 20 yards in two games. Still, it's a good sign that Carson Palmer's first touchdown pass of the season went to Coles. Consider Coles a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 3 against the Steelers. |
Caldwell could take Coles' role
|
Updated 9/17/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Following his six-catch performance last Sunday against Denver, Bengals WR Andre Caldwell reminded some of former WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh with his ability to catch third-down passes over the middle of the field. "I feel like I can slip into his role," Caldwell said. "I'm taking what I learned from him and putting it into my game." Caldwell in his second year in the NFL, the former University of Florida standout is adjusting nicely to the pro game and is a threat to Laveranues Coles to take over the No. 2 WR role. "I'm a lot more comfortable," Caldwell said. "I can read the defenses, and I just have a lot more confidence out there." | Analysis: Caldwell is worth keeping an eye on and could be worth adding in deep leagues. Coles had a rough season opener in Week 1 against the Broncos with only one catch, so keep him reserved for Week 2 at Green Bay. |
One catch for Coles
|
Updated 9/13/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: In the Bengals' Week 1 loss vs. the Broncos, WR Laveranues Coles caught just one pass. It was good for 11 yards. He was targeted five times and had a couple of drops. | Analysis: Not a good start for Coles, who should be good for at least four catches per week. Look for him to get more receptions in Week 2 against the Packers, but be no better than a low-end No. 3 Fantasy option as their secondary is fairly solid. |
Coles to make debut vs. Broncos
|
Updated 9/10/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: WR Laveranues Coles will make his regular season debut with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 when they host the Denver Broncos. The Broncos finished last season with the 15th ranked defense in the NFL, allowing 205.4 yards per game and 19 touchdowns. | Analysis: Coles will be facing a middle-of-the-road pass defense in his first official game with his new team. We like Coles as a No. 3 Fantasy WR going into the season and that is the type of receiver Fantasy owners will be starting based upon matchups. Consider this a good week to go with Coles. We currently project him to catch four passes for 49 yards and a score. |
Coles having a quiet preseason
|
Updated 8/27/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles had just one catch for 11 yards during Thursday's preseason game against the Rams. He was targeted twice in the game. Coles has three catches for 34 yards in the preseason. | Analysis: It's safe to say that Coles has had a pretty quiet preseason, but it's not time to write him off in Fantasy. Carson Palmer hasn't been on the field much because of an ankle injury and Cincy really has no reason to push Coles since they need him for the long haul. Coles is expected to start opposite Chad Ochocinco and be the guy help make up for the loss of T.J. Houshmandzadeh. We like Coles as a No. 3 Fantasy WR, and he's worth a mid-round pick in all leagues. |
Coles adjusts to new team
|
Updated 6/3/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: According to the team web site, Bengals WR Laveranues Coles is getting used to playing with his new team. "Of course, I'm a little bit out of what I'm used to doing but this is what they brought me in to play so I'm just trying to learn my way around and try to do exactly what they're asking me at this point," Coles says. "It's a new deal. I'm dealing with new coaches, a new system. I just go with the flow." | Analysis: The Bengals are counting on Coles to replace T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who is now in Seattle. There is also a chance Coles could see time in the slot, but no matter what, he will be on the field and catching passes. We like Coles as a No. 3 Fantasy WR, and he's worth a mid-round pick in all leagues. |
Coles takes Houshmandzadeh's spot
|
Updated 5/19/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: According to the team web site, Bengals WR Laveranues Coles lined up as a starter in what would have been T.J. Houshmandzadeh's spot during Tuesday's OTA workout. Chris Henry took the place of Chad Ochocinco, who is not participating in the voluntary session. QB Carson Palmer predicted Henry will "have a great year," and he said he could see Henry playing 50 to 60 snaps a game in that spot even though he's primarily worked out of three-receiver sets. | Analysis: This is an obvious spot for Coles since he was signed as a free agent to replace Houshmandzadeh. We like Coles to do well as a possession receiver, and he will be good in leagues where receptions count. Plan on drafting Coles as a No. 3 Fantasy WR with a mid-round pick in all leagues. |
Bengals nab WR Coles
|
Updated 3/4/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: NFL Network and The Associated Press are reporting that the Bengals and WR Laveranues Coles have agreed to terms on a four-year contract, giving the club a suitable replacement for T.J. Houshmandzadeh in its passing game. Coles is actually younger than Houshmandzadeh and will be playing for his third club in nine seasons. "What Laveranues brings to us and how he's different, it's kind of fun," offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said. "Let's see how it all unfolds as we go forward here through the spring workouts, through training camp and through the season. I think it's kind of exciting what he's going to bring." | Analysis: Coles had 70 catches for 850 yards (12.1 avg.) and seven touchdowns last season, which was a little better than expected for the 31-year-old veteran. In Cincinnati, he'll be in line for plenty of catches and actually will be working with his most polished quarterback to date in Carson Palmer. While there's no guarantee that he'll be a candidate for more than, say, six touchdowns, he should be able to post good yardage totals so long as he stays healthy and catches around five passes per game, something he's been able to do with lesser quarterbacks in the past. Consider Coles a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR in standard formats (pick between Rounds 8 and 10) and a moderately good No. 2 option (pick between Rounds 7 and 9) in deeper PPR leagues. |
Jets let WR Coles go
|
Updated 2/26/2009 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: The Jets agreed to release WR Laveranues Coles by restructuring his contract in order to make him a free agent. Coles reportedly gave back a guaranteed $6 million salary in exchange for his release, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. "I look at it as a long-term thing," he told the paper. "It's something my agent and I talked about for a long time. I trust my agent. He's been in my corner for a long time. He gave me his opinion. He said he truly believed we could get a long-term deal on the open market and I took his word for it. I want to go somewhere where I can finish my career. I don't want to bounce from team to team. I hope to play another three or four years." | Analysis: Coles had 70 catches for 850 yards (12.1 avg.) and seven touchdowns last season, which is a little better than expected for the 31-year-old veteran. Coles still has some decent speed and should be able to catch on with a new club as a starter in 2009, though there is some concern that he's a little more injury prone now than in the past (he missed four games in 2007, but he's been mostly healthy otherwise). Ultimately, Coles can't be trusted as anything more than a middle- to low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR who will deliver some good weeks in between some awful ones. He has a ton of potential landing spots, but the two that wouldn't surprise us are in Cleveland (reunited with coaches Eric Mangini and Brian Daboll) and Miami (reunited with Chad Pennington). |
Coles goes for 88 yards, scores
|
Updated 12/28/2008 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets RW Laveranues Coles caught four passes for 88 yards and a touchdown in a Week 17 loss to the Dolphins. | Analysis: Coles dealt with injuries and some sub-par play in 2008 as he slumped to barely be worth using as a No. 2 Fantasy WR. He actually had more value as a No. 3 WR or 'flex' option towards the end of the year. A QB change in New York could do him some good in 2009, but he won't be drafted anywhere near as early as he was this summer. |

| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles was not listed among the inactives for New York's Week 17 game vs. Miami. | Analysis: Coles was at one point a Fantasy stud, but not anymore. He is at best a low-end No. 3 or flex option in most leagues. Other options out there should be more appealing. |

| News: WR Laveranues Coles has been suffering a thigh injury for quite a while now but is yet to miss a game because of it. He is listed as questionable but almost certainly should be able to go Sunday if history holds true. He was limited in practice all week for his game Sunday against the Dolphins. | Analysis: Coles was at one point a Fantasy stud, but not anymore. Coles makes five grabs Week 16
|
Updated 12/21/2008 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveraneus Coles had five catches Week 16 at snowy Seattle for 60 total yards, failing to reach the end zone for the fourth straight game. Coles' long on the day went for 23 yards. | Analysis: Coles has put together two slightly above average weeks in a row, but that isn't exactly pleasing to Fantasy owners who hoped Coles would be a serious threat this year with Brett Favre at the helm. Coles and the Jets will host Miami Week 17 in a game with major playoff implications. In Week 1 against Miami, Coles had only one catch for five yards. Think of him as a No. 3 or flex option at best for the final week of the regular season. |

| News: Jets WR Laveraneus Coles will be active Week 16 at Seattle which is no surprise as he has been on the injured list all season but is yet to miss a game. | Analysis: Coles, once a stud in Fantasy, has now been reduced to a No. 3 or flex option at the receiver position. Coles did lead his team in receiving last week, but failed to get into the end zone. |

| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles couldn't score for the third straight week in Week 15's win over the Bills. Coles did, however, get at least more than single digits in receiving yards as he caught five passes for 82 yards to lead the Jets. Coles had a total of seven receiving yards over his previous two contests. | Analysis: Coles has really fallen off as far as Fantasy wideouts go. We called him a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR against the Bills in Week 15 and he won't be worth much more than that in Week 16 at Seattle. There are plenty of better options out there and Coles has been way too inconsistent. |

| News: What a surprise! Jets WR Laveranues Coles is active and starting in Week 15 against the Bills despite a thigh injury. He's been on the injured list all season with this ailment and it has yet to hamper him in any games. | Analysis: Coles has 7 receiving yards in his last two games. It was an off day for the veteran QB and he will look to get back on track for Week 14 at San Francisco. Coles remains a viable No. 3 receiving option for that matchup despite this slow game. |

Though he hasn't scored in his last two against the Patriots, the Jets are expected to have trouble running the ball, forcing QB Brett Favre to pass. That should help Coles improve on his one-catch outing in the Jets' blowout win vs. the Rams last week. Treat him like a solid No. 3 Fantasy WR as the Patriots pass defense has allowed 14 touchdowns through the air this season. |

| News: New York didn't need to throw the ball much in Week 10's 47-3 win over the Rams. Quarterback Brett Favre threw just 19 passes for the entire game and only one of them went to WR Laveranues Coles. Coles had one catch for 14 yards. | Analysis: Coles and teammate Jerricho Cotchery were both limited against the porous Rams because the Jets focused on the ground game. That won't be the case in Week 11 at New England as New York will be forced to throw more often. That keeps Coles a viable No. 3 Fantasy WR against the Patriots in Week 11. |

| News: Wide receivers Laveranues Coles (thigh) and Jerricho Cotchery (shoulder) are both healthy and active and starting in Week 10 against the St. Louis Rams. | Analysis: The Jets could have a big day offensively as the Rams are thin at running back and likely to struggle to move the ball. Consider Coles and Cotchery at worst No. 3 Fantasy receivers that should start in most leagues. It wouldn't surprise us if they both scored on Sunday. |

| News: New York Jets WR Laveranues Coles (thigh) is still on the practice injury report Thursday as he was limited in preparation for Week 10 against the Rams. | Analysis: Coles has been on the practice report all season and has yet to miss any time with this thigh injury. | News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles had his worst statistical performance since catching one pass for five yards in Week 1 on Sunday against the Bills. Coles caught three passes for 40 yards and did not score in the game. | Analysis: Coles caught seven balls for 64 yards and a score in Week 8 against Kansas City and hasn't had less than 51 yards in any game since the opener before Week 9. Still, we expect him to have a nice bounce back game in Week 10 against the Rams horrid defense. He's worthy of starting in all Fantasy leagues. |

Coles caught seven passes for 64 yards and the score. He also rushed once for 6 yards. | Analysis: A healthy Coles should be treated as a high-end No. 2 Fantasy wide receiver at all times for the Jets. | News: New York Jets wide receiver Laveranues Coles and safety Eric Smith were listed Friday as probable for the team's game against Kansas City despite suffering concussions last weekend. Coles and Smith, both injured in the Jets' 16-13 overtime loss at Oakland on Sunday, fully participated in practice for the first time this week on Friday. "Right now, what (the coaches) are doing at this point is basically doing what the doctors say," said Coles, who's also been nursing a strained thigh since training camp. "They went beyond the call of duty to basically bring in doctors and people like that to not only give us tests, but to talk to us, examine us and make sure things are all right. Basically, it's the doctors' decision. I don't think they will put us in a position that would jeopardize our long-term health." | Analysis: Coles, who leads the team with 30 catches for 369 yards and four touchdowns, was hit hard after trying to catch a pass late in the second half of New York's 16-13 overtime loss at Oakland. Coles came up with a facemask full of grass and appeared a bit dazed, but was able to return despite the injury. Coach Eric Mangini confirmed Thursday that Coles suffered a concussion -- his third head injury in less than two years. Coles angrily refused to discuss the injury Thursday, citing team policy, but spoke Friday to deflect injury-related questions directed at Smith. It appears as though Coles will play Week 8, so treat him as a No. 2 Fantasy WR. If anything changes, we will let you know. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles has a concussion and his status for the team's game against Kansas City was uncertain Thursday. It's the third time in less than two years that Coles is dealing with a head injury. He had his streak of playing in 107 straight games end last November because of a concussion, and was briefly knocked unconscious when he was leveled by a hit by Miami's Zach Thomas in December 2006. Coles didn't practice Wednesday when he was listed on the team's injury report as having "head" and "thigh" ailments. He was on the field Thursday participating in warmup drills during the 30-minute window the media are allowed to watch. "Yeah, it's a concussion," coach Eric Mangini acknowledged Thursday. "I just listed it that way because I list all the body parts. Yeah, that's a concussion." | Analysis: Coles, also nursing a strained thigh since training camp, was hit hard after trying to catch a pass late in the second half of New York's 16-13 overtime loss at Oakland. Coles came up with a facemask full of grass and appeared a bit dazed, but was able to return despite the injury. "Those aren't coaching decisions," Mangini said. "We won't put anybody back in the game until they're cleared medically to go back in the game." Coles, who leads the Jets with 30 catches for 369 yards and four touchdowns, refused to address the injury, citing the team's policy of not discussing them publicly. Keep an eye on Coles' status for Week 8 against the Chiefs. When healthy, he is a No. 2 Fantasy option this week. |

Coles has become a favorite target from QB Brett Favre and should be kept active as a No. 2 Fantasy WR, especially with a great matchup Week 8 against the Chiefs. |

Moreover, he's finally at peace with Brett Favre as his quarterback. He also appears to be over a thigh injury that slowed him down previously. Consider Coles a low-end No. 1/top-end No. 2 Fantasy wideout for Week 6 and don't think twice about it. |

| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles, fresh off a bye and a Week 4 game that saw him score three touchdowns, told AM New York that he's a believer in the Bengals' defense. "I watched them yesterday and anytime you look at a team that played the Dallas Cowboys as tough as they did, I think ... every game they've had, they've had tight games," he said. "They're just a scary team to play against whether they were 0-5 or 5-0, because they could just as well be 5-0 as they are 0-5. They're a very good football team." Against the pass, the Bengals have allowed six scores, but three came last week. They have yet to allow a 100-yard receiver and are ranked sixth vs. the pass, giving up just 167.6 pass yards per game on average through five contests. The reason why is because teams are running all over the Bengals -- they're giving up over 170 rush yards per game. | Analysis: Coles was nice to give the Bengals lip service, but he's familiar with them. In fact, he torched them for 133 yards and two touchdowns in a game at Cincinnati last year! Not only has he scored in his last two games, but he's topped 70 receiving yards in his last three. Moreover, he's finally at peace with Brett Favre as his quarterback. He also appears to be over a thigh injury that slowed him down previously. Consider Coles a low-end No. 1/top-end No. 2 Fantasy wideout for Week 6 and don't think twice about sitting him. |

| News: Jets Brett Favre threw a career-high and Jets-record six touchdown passes, including three to Laveranues Coles, as New York beat the Cardinals 56-35 Week 4. After a scoreless first quarter, the Jets got on the scoreboard early in the second when Favre found Coles streaking across the back of the end zone for a 7-0 lead 16 seconds into the quarter on a 12-yard strike. Coles caught his second touchdown pass of the game with 7:17 left in the half as he went uncovered down the left sideline for a 34-yard score as Eric Green crumpled to the turf near the line of scrimmage with a sprained right knee. Favre and Coles connected for the third time in the second quarter on a 2-yard score with 10 seconds left to make it 31-0. Coles had eight catches for 105 yards, his first 100-yard game of the season. | Analysis: Coles now has four touchdowns in his last two games and has 252 receiving yards in his last three games. He had just one catch for five yards in the opener against Miami and complained of a lack of chemsitry with Favre. Well, Coles can stop complaining because Favre is looking his way a lot. The Jets are on a bye Week 5 and don't return to action until Week 6 against the Bengals. Feel free to use Coles as a No. 2 Fantasy WR when he returns to the gridiron. |

Coles not on same page with Favre
|
Updated 9/11/2008 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Laveranues Coles stayed silent out of respect to his best friend and his New York Jets teammates. The wide receiver was disappointed when Chad Pennington was released to make room for Brett Favre, and Coles granted no interviews until after the season opener at Miami. With Pennington now starting for the Dolphins -- "He's happy. I can tell you that much" -- Coles has been trying to build a rapport with Favre. Injuries, which also plagued him last season, have so far sabotaged those plans. Coles missed the entire preseason with a thigh injury and has been limited in practice because of it. Still, he caught Favre's first pass against the Dolphins, a 5-yard toss. But Coles had no other receptions. "I don't have a feel for him and he doesn't have a feel for me," Coles said. "That's one of the things I am going to have to deal with. In the past, I always knew when the ball was coming. Now, you don't really know. It's totally different for me as a player. It is what it is. He's getting adjusted and I'm trying to do what I'm supposed to do." | Analysis: Coles hasn't talked with Jerricho Cotchery to get a better feel for how Favre operates. "He does what he does and hopefully you're in his read," he said, "and that's pretty much all you can do at this point." Coach Eric Mangini isn't worried that Coles' personal feelings for Pennington will affect him negatively on the field. "L.C. is a total pro," Mangini said. "He's focused on one thing. He's been great. He's really been great. He's tough physically and mentally. All he's worried about is doing as well as he can, helping us win." While Coles sat during the preseason, Favre developed an immediate chemistry with Cotchery and Chansi Stuckey. It is clearly obvious that Favre's favorite target is Cotchery and Coles might have to play the role of a Donald Driver, who ended up being second fiddle to Greg Jennings in Green Bay. Coles, who is listed as questionable with a thigh injury, should play Sunday, but is at best a No. 3 Fantasy WR. Coles has missed the entire preseason and has yet to play in a game situation with new QB Brett Favre. | Analysis: Expect Coles to play in Week 1, but he might not be as good as expected coming off the injury. Consider Coles a No. 3 Fantasy option for now going into Week 1. Coles hasn't exactly performed admirably in South Florida over the past two seasons, though he's been much better at home vs. the Fish. In two away games in Miami the last two years Coles has totaled just seven catches for 78 yards and no scores. By contrast, at home, he's scored three TDs on 136 yards receiving. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins in Miami. | Analysis: Coles has more than a few strikes against him heading into Week 1. His leg is still injured as he's listed as probable for the game. We expect he'll play, but his timing with new QB Brett Favre is still off. He's also still a little miffed that his buddy Chad Pennington will be throwing passes for the other team. Add that to the fact that he's not owned the Dolphins in Miami recently and he looks like someone to avoid for Week 1 if you have other options at receiver. |

Coles has yet to play in game action with new QB Brett Favre. | Analysis: Coles has yet to get his timing down with Favre in game action and also is still sulking about Chad Pennington, his buddy, being let go. Favre: Coles 'like Driver'

| News: Brett Favre has yet to throw a meaningful pass to Laveranues Coles. But Favre is already comparing the Jet to his favorite target in Green Bay. After talking to Coles on Tuesday, Favre likened him to Donald Driver, his long-time top receiver in Green Bay, reports the New York Daily News. "He's a lot like Driver," Favre said. "I mean that with the highest compliments. First and foremost, his experience, there is no substitute for experience. I've seen a lot of guys come and go with tremendous speed, who can jump high, who could bench press more than anyone in the locker room but could they play football? When it's all said and done that is the most important thing." | Analysis: Coles should improve in 2008 with the addition of Favre. Go into the season with Coles as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option worth a pick around Round 7 in all leagues. |
Favre fond of Coles

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles hasn't spoken to reporters since Brett Favre was acquired and his good friend, Chad Pennington, was released to make room under the salary cap. Coles and Favre were seen on the field before the morning practice having what appeared to be a friendly conversation. "Those two guys had a great rapport together," Favre said. "I said, 'Look, I'm not trying to replace him. I'm here to help you guys win and I hope you respect me for that.'" Favre also praised Coles and fellow WR Jerricho Cotchery. "I'm very familiar with Laveranues as a player," Favre said in the New York Post. He and Jerricho both are a lot like the guys I've been throwing to in Green Bay. Quick. I think deceptively powerful guys. Hard to tackle. Good in and out of space. Are those the type of guys that you want to drop back and throw it deep into coverage? Probably not, but I think these guys are definitely in-space type of players, and we made a living on yards after the catch in Green Bay. And, I'd much rather have it in their hands." | Analysis: Hopefully, Coles won't let the absence of Pennington bother him too much and will benefit from the better Favre's passes. Coles is a great possession receiver and should get back to being a quality Fantasy option with Favre under center. But Coles is coming off an injury-plagued 2007 and has been slowed in training camp with leg problems. He's also never reached double digits in touchdowns before. Go into 2008 with Coles as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option worth a draft pick around Round 7 or 8 in all leagues. |

| News: The New York Daily News reports Jets WR Laveranues Coles is not happy about the team releasing his close friend Chad Pennington. He declined interview Saturday and told a member of the Jets' PR staff, "I just need some time." Coles has been hampered by a leg injury and didn't play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Browns. He wasn't able to practice Saturday and stood alone on the sidelines by himself, which is unusual for him. | Analysis: Don't worry Laveranues, Chad will be just fine down in Miami, meanwhile, you have Brett Favre throwing you passes. Life could be worse. Hopefully, Coles won't let the absence of Pennington bother him too much and will benefit from the better Favre's passes. | News: The Packers reached an agreement to trade QB Brett Favre to the New York Jets, the team announced late Wednesday night. It cost the Jets a conditional fourth-round pick in 2009, but the pick will escalate to a first-rounder if Favre appears in 80 percent of the plays and the Jets make it to the Super Bowl, according to a league source. The pick could be a second- or third-rounder depending on Favre's playing time and the Jets' performance. The trade agreement was structured to prevent the Jets from dealing Favre to the Vikings, his No. 1 choice. The Jets would have to give three No. 1 picks to the Packers if they made such a move, a ! league source confirmed. The Packers decided to move forward with Aaron Rodgers as their starter after Favre announced his retirement in March. | Analysis: With the Jets, look for Favre to depend on WR Laveranues Coles much like he did with another veteran receiver in Donald Driver. But Coles is coming off an injury-plagued 2007 and has been slowed in training camp with leg problems. He's also never reached double digits in touchdowns before. | News: The Green Bay Packers have reached an agreement to trade quarterback Brett Favre to the New York Jets, the team announced late Wednesday night. Terms of the trade weren't immediately available. The Packers had been talking with the Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers since deciding earlier this week that the team and the three-time MVP couldn't co-exist. The Packers decided to move forward with Aaron Rodgers as their starter after Favre announced his retirement in March. Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens will obviously fight for a backup job now, while top receivers Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery will have a Hall of Famer distributing them the ball. | Analysis: Coles and the Jets have never had a quarterback this good, especially in relation to sticking the ball in the end zone. Coles had already proven to be a 90-catch, 1,000-yard receiver with subpar passers, so as long as Father Time doesn't get in the way, Coles is due to get a huge, huge boost with this trade. Consider Coles a candidate to catch 90 balls for over 1,000 yards and a career-high touchdowns, perhaps even double digits. This makes Coles an excellent No. 2 Fantasy receiver who has a chance to perform like a No. 1. |

Pennington and Clemens would be undraftable, while Coles and Cotchery rise the receiver rankings as potential 90-catch, 1,000-yard and 10-touchdown candidates. |

Coles (leg) returned to practice after missing four days. | Analysis: Coles is coming off a tough season in 2007, where he missed four games because of a concussion and a high-ankle sprain. After averaging 85 receptions and 1,072 yards from 2002 to 2006, Coles' production dropped to 55 and 646 last year. Still, Coles should be in line to return as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option. | News: The New York Post reports that WR Laveranues Coles has agreed to a contract extension with the Jets. The new deal, which hasn't been finalized, will keep the veteran wideout in New York. | Analysis: Coles finished the season on Injured Reserve with an ankle sprain. He ended 2007 with 55 catches for 646 yards and six TDs. The concern with Coles is his age (30) and his recent injuries. However, he's averaged 85 catches for 964 yards and four touchdowns the past three years and is a proven receiving threat. | News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles is reportedly seeking a contract extension this offseason. Coles, who has two years remaining on his deal, would like more long-term security. Last week, he indicated his agent said it might be a tough negotiation. The Jets want Coles to stay. "Our goal is for Laveranues to be here for a long time," GM Mike Tannenbaum said. "He's done a lot of great things for our program." | Analysis: Coles finished the season on Injured Reserve with an ankle sprain. He ended 2007 with 55 catches for 646 yards and six TDs. Figure him to be a low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR in 2008 if he sticks with the Jets. The concern with Coles is his age (30) and his recent injury. Is this just a one-time injury or a sign he's starting to break down? It's probably just a one-time thing, so don't worry about Coles in 2008. Jets place WR Coles on IR

| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: The Jets placed wide receiver Laveranues Coles on injured reserve Saturday because of an ankle injury that has bothered him for several weeks. Coles, known throughout his eight-year career for his toughness and ability to play through pain, suffered a high left ankle sprain early in the Jets' 19-16 overtime win against Pittsburgh on Nov. 18. He missed New York's game at Dallas four days later on Thanksgiving, but returned for the Jets' next game at Miami, where he had five catches for 69 yards. Coles caught seven passes for 48 yards the following week against Cleveland, but lasted just one play Week 15 at New England after aggravating the ankle the day before in a bizarre incident at the team hotel when the trainer's table fell on it while he was getting treatment. | Analysis: Coles finished the season with 55 catches for 646 yards and six TDs. Since injuring the ankle over a month ago, Coles has been limited at practice and noticeably hobbled. With the Jets (3-11) long out of the playoff picture, some suggested Coles should sit out the last two games to help the ankle heal and prevent further injury. Earlier this week, Coles won the team's Ed Block Courage Award and said he would prefer the team make the decision whether to end his season. He also expressed his doubts about whether continuing to play would be beneficial to him and the team in the long run. It is safe to cut Coles in all seasonal leagues and he has minimal keeper value. |
Laveranues Coles wants to play

| News: It's uncertain if the Jets will have Laveranues Coles to throw to the rest of this season. Coles, who has been struggling with a high left ankle sprain, lasted just one play Week 15 after reinjuring it Saturday at the team hotel when the trainer's table fell on it while he was getting treatment. Some have suggested perhaps sitting out the last two games might help him in the long run. "It's a good way to look at it, but that's not a decision that I would like to make," Coles said. "If anything, you always want somebody to do that for you." | Analysis: Coles, who has 55 catches for 646 yards and six TDs, will let the team decide if he'll play Week 16 against the Titans. He is listed as questionable "If they say that I'm not going to damage anything or I'm going to be fine and keep moving, then I'll follow orders," Coles said. "I'm not going to put it in the same context as someone being in college, but we are kind of like soldiers." If he plays, Coles is no better than a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR since he won't be anywhere close to 100 percent. |

"L.C. wants to play, and I appreciate that." Coles played only one snap against the Patriots after aggravating the injury in a freak accident Saturday at the team hotel. Part of a training table came loose and landed on his ankle. Said Mangini: "I'm not sure what the odds of something like that happening, but sometimes it does." | Analysis: Continue to monitor Coles' status before setting your lineup. With the Jets' QB situation also up in the air, it doesn't make sense to play Coles in Week 16 at Tennessee. |

Coles was receiving treatment on his ankle at the hotel when part of the trainer's table came loose and landed on his ankle. | Analysis: Such poor luck for Coles, who practiced in limited fashion last week and looked set to at least play a semi-important role in the Jets offense against the Pats. He tried to play in the game, but the ankle was just too sore for him to be effective. He will try and give it a go in Week 16 against the Titans, but keep an eye on his status this week to see how much he practices. |

As long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he should be on the field against the Patriots. In the first meeting, he has seven catches for 59 yards and two touchdowns. | News: Laveranues Coles' sprained left ankle still bothers him, and so does the New York Jets' record. While others might have packed it in for the season, the veteran wide receiver remains incredibly driven. "When you're in it with someone, you always want to finish it with them, regardless of whether it's going the way that you expect it or not," Coles said Wednesday. "Things aren't going the way that we want them to go, but I do want to finish it. However much pain I have to deal with, I'm willing to fight through it." Coles woke up Sunday morning with his left ankle throbbing and not knowing if he'd be back on the field or on the sideline for the third time in four games. "It was truly a game-time decision," Coles said. After missing a game with a concussion and then another two weeks later because of a high ankle sprain, Coles was cleared to play Week 13 against the Dolphins and made five catches for 69 yards. | Analysis: Coles' statistics Week 13 were modest, but he battled through an injury that sidelines most athletes for at least a few weeks. "Before the snap, I was feeling a lot of pain," Coles recalled, adding that it was the worst he's felt while playing a game. "Once the ball was snapped, I was able to push through it. Once the play was over, it was there again. It was one of those things where I was fortunate enough to make it through the game, help contribute and get us a win." Coles sat out for chunks nursing the injury, especially in the second half, and wasn't nearly 100 percent. It was still good enough to help the Jets improve to 3-9 and avoid becoming the winless Dolphins' first victim. He is back on the injury report for Week 14 vs. Cleveland. He is listed as questionable and will likely be a game-time decision again. If active, consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR. |

| News: Kellen Clemens might be without his top two targets when the New York Jets take on the winless Miami Dolphins. Jerricho Cotchery has missed practice all week with an injured right index finger, while Laveranues Coles has been limited by an ankle injury that caused him to miss New York's game against Dallas on Thanksgiving. Coles was injured during the Jets' 19-16 overtime win against Pittsburgh on Nov. 18 while making a 56-yard catch off a flea flicker that set up a touchdown. He returned briefly, but was noticeably hobbled and then sat out against the Cowboys. Coles, second on the team with 43 catches for 529 yards and six TDs, hopes to play and has been on the practice field, but has been limited. His availability for Sunday was still uncertain. | Analysis: Keep an eye on his progress as the week continues, but it appears Coles could miss another game. That's shame for Fantasy owners, as Coles has 10 touchdowns in 12 career games against Miami. When healthy, consider him a No. 2 Fantasy option against the Dolphins, but this is not a good sign that he's missed so much practice. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles, who missed a game Week 9 against the Redskins with a concussion, returned to the lineup Week 11 against the Steelers. He caught just one pass -- a 56-yard gain on the first drive. After Thomas Jones opened with an 11-yard run, he helped perfectly execute a flea-flicker when he took the handoff, pitched back to Kellen Clemens and the Jets quarterback found Laveranues Coles wide open down the middle of the field. Coles, who missed the Jets' last game with a concussion, was taken down by Anthony Smith at the 1 for a 56-yard gain. | Analysis: Coles nearly made it into the end zone Week 11, but stumbled before being pulled down at the goal line. Coles was in-and-out of the game against the Steelers. It appeared as though he was also battling some sort of left leg injury. He sat out most of the first half before returning after halftime. However, he was not very effective. Continue to track Coles' progress leading up to Week 12 against the Cowboys. Consider him a No. 2, perhaps a low-end No. 1, Fantasy WR. |

| News: One game away was long enough for Laveranues Coles. The Jets WR has been practicing with the team since last week after missing a game with a concussion, and hopes to play Sunday against Pittsburgh. Coles also intends to play with the same intensity he always does, despite suffering what was believed to be his second concussion in 10 months. Coles, who doesn't appear on the team's injury report, was hurt on a hard tackle during the Jets' 13-3 loss to Buffalo on Oct. 28. He sat out the Jets' game against Washington the following Sunday, ending his streaks of 104 starts and 107 straight games played. Coles was cleared by doctors to practice last Monday and was on the field in a red no-contact jersey last week before the team broke for its bye. He's back in his regular jersey this week and hasn't felt rusty despite not playing in a game in a while. | Analysis: Coles, who set a career high last season with 91 catches, is second to Jerricho Cotchery with 42 receptions for 473 yards. He also has a team-leading six touchdowns, making him a marked man by opposing defenses every week. Coles doesn't think his injury will make the Steelers key in on him more than usual. Consider Coles a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option in Week 11. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles missed Week 9 against the Redskins because of a concussion, ending his streaks of 104 starts and 107 straight games played. He'll return to the field Tuesday, though, after doctors cleared him to resume practicing. "It brings tears to your eyes," Coles said Monday of having to sit. "It's one of those decisions I just have to deal with. I'm sure they made the decision based on the long term and not something short term, which was probably what I was looking at. It's a decision I'm glad they made." | Analysis: Coles was injured Week 8 with 7:41 left in the Jets' 13-3 loss to Buffalo when he jumped to catch a pass from Chad Pennington and was immediately hit in the middle of the back by Terrence McGee. Coles' chest and head slammed to the turf and he stayed face-down for several minutes. He was eventually able to walk off the field, but didn't return. In Week 10, the Jets will be on a bye, so Coles should be back fresh for Week 11 vs. Pittsurgh. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (concussion) missed a third straight practice Friday and the team listed him as doubtful for Week 9 vs. Washington. Jets head coach Eric Mangini said earlier in the week it was a day-by-day process with Coles, but the prospectus of Coles facing the Redskins is looking bleak. "I always want to play," Coles said Friday. "I'm wholeheartedly into it and I always feel good. I feel like if I'm able to walk then I'm able to play. With something like this, I have to let the doctors and our coaching staff do their jobs in coming up with the right decision and trust that." Jerricho Cotchery, Brad Smith and Justin McCareins are expected to pick up the slack if Coles misses the game. | Analysis: Coles was injured Week 8 with 7:41 left in the Jets' 13-3 loss to Buffalo when he jumped to catch a pass from Chad Pennington and was immediately hit in the middle of the back by Terrence McGee. The 29-year-old receiver, who has 42 catches for 473 yards and a team-leading six touchdowns, has been on the practice field all week -- but in sweats and a cap. | News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (concussion) missed a second straight practice Thursday as the team prepares for Week 9 vs. Washington. Coles has a concussion and it is uncertain if he'll play Sunday. Coach Eric Mangini addressed Coles' injury during a conference call with Redskins beat writers Wednesday. Mangini didn't mention Coles in his earlier news conference with Jets writers. The Jets wide receiver hasn't addressed the injury because it's against team policy. "We will go through the process and look at him throughout the course of the week and evaluate him when we get a lot closer to the game," Mangini said. | Analysis: Coles was injured last Sunday with 7:41 left in the Jets' 13-3 loss to Buffalo when he jumped to catch a pass from Chad Pennington and was immediately hit in the middle of the back by Terrence McGee. | News: The Jets had a scary moment with 7:41 left in their Week 8 loss to the visiting Bills when Laveranues Coles jumped up to catch a pass from Chad Pennington and was immediately hit in the middle of the back by Bills cornerback Terrence McGee. Coles' chest and head slammed to the turf, and the wide receiver remained face-down near the Bills sideline for nearly five minutes as trainers looked at him. He sat up after several minutes and walked off the field under his own power. The nature of the injury was unclear. | Analysis: Coles finished with one catch for 13 yards. "I'm all right," he said after the game. "I'm going to go in the back and get checked out, and the team will be able to tell you more a little later." When asked if he slammed his head against the turf, Coles said simply: "Yeah, I guess so." Coles may've suffered a concussion, or he may've just had the wind knocked out of him. We don't know at this point. If he misses any time, though, his Fantasy owners would miss him. He has six receiving touchdowns this season and has emerged as a consistent Fantasy starter. If he can play Week 9 against the Redskins, start him, but monitor his status in the coming days. |

| News: The Jets didn't list WR Laveranues Coles among their inactives for Week 8 against the Bills. He has eight-catch outings in three of the last four weeks and will look to produce another fine Fantasy performance against a Bills pass defense that ranks 31st in the league. | News: Although Jerricho Cotchery is having a nice season, Laveranues Coles is still the No. 1 WR in the Jets system and has a nice history against the Giants, the Jets' Week 5 opponents. He has two 100-yard receiving games against the G-Men and has four of the Jets' six touchdown receptions in 07. | Analysis: Coles has two less receptions and a ton less yards than Cotchery this season, but Cotchery's success has really been down to Coles attracting so much attention from opposing defenses. Things will average out and Coles will likely end up with better stats than his fellow WR. Consider Coles a high-end No. 2 Fantasy WR for Week 5. |

The Bills rank dead last against the pass, giving up 281.0 pass yards per game. | Analysis: Expect Coles to put up a decent effort at Buffalo, where the weather isn't blustery yet. | News: Laveranues Coles was clearly frustrated by the questions, one after another, about the New York Jets' struggling offense. "Who said there's a problem?" the veteran wide receiver said in front of his locker Wednesday, his voice a few octaves higher than normal. "If you ask me, we're doing fine. What has changed?" QB Chad Pennington has four total touchdowns in the last five games, along with six interceptions. One of those was a costly mistake - while Coles was wide open on the other side of the field in a Week 11 loss to the Bears. And Coles made that known after the play, racing up to the quarterback on the field and telling him, "Man, I was open!" while waving his hands. "Everybody has those moments," Coles said, shrugging it off. "Me and him have no problems. He knows the competitive side of me." | Analysis: Coles caught eight passes for 80 yards Sunday, and is still among the NFL leaders with 59 catches for 715 yards. So, he's still producing, but for some reason, the offense isn't clicking as it had been. Nevertheless, consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR vs. Houston in Week 12. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles caught eight passes for 80 yards vs. Chicago in Week 11. It was expected that Coles have a rough outing here, but this has been good considering his recent play. | Analysis: Coles still hasn't scored or topped 100 yards in six of his last seven games. Nevertheless, consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR vs. Houston in Week 12. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf) is listed as probable for Week 11 vs. Chicago. He was on the injury report last week with the same injury, but was listed as questionable. | Analysis: Coles is obviously getting better, but he has been a regular on the injury report with a calf injury of late. Coles has gorssly underperformed in five of his last six games; expect a less-than-stellar effort vs. the tough Bears defense in Week 11. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf) is listed as questionable for Week 10 at New England. | Analysis: Coles has been a regular on the injury report with a calf injury. He is hoping that the recent bye week gave him some much needed time to rest up and be healthy for the rest of the season. Coles should be considered a low-end No. 2 WR the rest of this year. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf) is hoping that the bye week will help him to shake off some of his nagging aches and pains. While Coles still has been productive, he's been mostly a possession receiver the last few weeks. | Analysis: Coles should be considered a low-end No. 2 WR the rest of this year. Keep him reserved in Week 9 with the Jets on a bye. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles had four receptions for 40 yards in a 20-13 loss to the Browns in Week 8. | Analysis: Coles now has 69 yards in the Jets last two contests and has found himself in a slump. He was listed as questionable all week with a calf injury and missed practice because of it. That could be a reason for his recent poor performances, but with the Jets on a bye coming up, Coles should be able to rest and recooperate. |
Coles expected to play Sunday

| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: According to the New York Daily News, Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf), who is listed as questionable for Week 8 at Cleveland, did not practice Friday but did dress out as he intended to take part. Despite not being able to practice all week, Coles is expected to play Sunday against the Browns. | Analysis: You might have to follow this situation up until inactives are released, but the report is that Coles will play on Sunday. Coles had a relatively quiet day against a poor Lions secondary in Week 7 netting four catches for only 29 yards. Look for him to rebound in Week 8 against the Browns. Consider him a No. 1 Fantasy WR option. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf) is listed as questionable for Week 7 vs. Detroit. He did not practice with the team on Wednesday. | Analysis: Coles has been down this road before many times this season, but has yet to miss a game due to injury. Continue to monitor the situation, but it looks as though Coles being on the injury report is just a ploy by Jets head coach Eric Mangini to toy with his opposition. |
Three 100s for Laveranues

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles had five receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns. It was his third 100-yard receiving game of the season, but first since the second game against New England. | Analysis: He could lock up No. 4 when he faces off vs. Detroit in Week 7. The Lions have been awful against the pass. What a surprise he has been! Start him if you own him in all leagues. |
Two TDs for Coles in Week 6

| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles caught five passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns (22,58) in Week 6 as the Jets won 20-17 over the Dolphins. | Analysis: We could be as bold to say that Coles has emerged as a No. 1 Fantasy WR, but he lacks the touchdowns (three through six weeks) to earn that distinction. He is still a very good Fantasy option and No. 2 WR easily. Make sure to play him Week 7 when the Lions come to town. |

| News: Jets head coach Eric Mangini and WR Laveranues Coles spoke briefly on the practice field, but both said there's no need to clear the air. Coles was disappointed in his lack of use during the Jets' 41-0 loss to Jacksonville. "We chat here and there," Mangini said. "I wasn't necessarily going to schedule a meeting. I don't have anything scheduled." Coles said of Mangini, "He's our general. I don't ever go to the man. Let it lie where it may lie. He's our head coach, whatever decisions he makes, I live with them. It's as simple as that. Whatever he does, I say, 'yes sir,' and move on. ... I don't question anything that goes on. I may get frustrated about some things, I may not like some things, but I leave them where they are. I'm a pawn in a chess game. Whatever I'm told to do, that's what I'm going to do." Coles is still listed as questionable for Week 6 with a calf injury. | Analysis: It seems some of the elite wide receiver’s in the league have all spoken up in past weeks about the frustrations they face. Nonetheless, look for Coles to bounce back in a big way in Week 6 against the Dolphins after having a poor showing in Week 5 against the Jaguars. Consider him a solid No. 2 WR option this week. |

| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles was limited to three receptions for 19 yards against Jacksonville in Week 5 and often wasn't on the field, but coach Eric Mangini said it had nothing to do with his calf and wrist injuries. "It was more the way we had gone into the game and what we tried to do to incorporate all the different receivers," Mangini said. "He's extremely tough, so a tweak to him is (like) a hiccup for most of us." Coles wasn't happy with the lack of use, likening himself to a "pawn in a chess game." Coles is once again listed as questionable for Week 6 with a calf injury. | Analysis: Look for Coles to bounce back in a big way in Week 6 against the Dolphins. Consider him a solid No. 2 WR option this week. |
WR Coles frustrated in loss

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles was upset with his lack of playing time against Jacksonville in a 41-0 loss. "I played very few plays," Coles said. "That's something you have to ask Coach about. I don't know why." Mangini kept QB Chad Pennington in the game until the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter. Most of the other starters stayed in, too, but Coles, the Jets' top playmaker, was missing in action for stretches. Coles insisted it wasn't because of his calf and wrist injuries, claiming they "didn't bother me at all." He didn't directly criticize Mangini, but it was apparent that he wasn't pleased. "I started the game, I sat in the second quarter, I sat some of the third and sat a majority of the fourth," Coles said. "That's something you have to ask him about. I just work here." Coles, who entered the game as the NFL's co-leader with 30 receptions, was held to a season-low three catches for 19 yards. | Analysis: Look for Coles to bounce back in a big way in Week 6 against the Dolphins. Consider him a solid No. 2 WR option this week. |

Coles sits out Jets practice

Updated 10/4/2006 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf) is listed as questionable for Week 5 at Jacksonville. He did not practice with the team on Wednesday. | Analysis: Coles was listed on the injury last week with a calf injury, but the concern after Week 4's loss was about his arm. All seems fine with the arm and all could be well with his calf as well. Don't forget that Jets head coach Eric Mangini coached under Bill Belichick, who is famous for putting star players on the injury report who aren't injured (i.e. Tom Brady who is listed every week with a shoulder injury). Keep an eye on Coles status the rest of the Week 5 before relegating him to the bench for Week 5. |
Jaguars targeting Coles?
|
Updated 10/4/2006 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said on Wednesday that after getting burned by Santana Moss in Week 4, the Jags will be very aware of WR Laveranues Coles when the Jets visit in Week 5. "We struggled with an explosive playmaker last week and we see Laveranues Coles as being that type of guy," Del Rio said. "He already had 30 receptions. We feel like they present a lot of challenges there." | Analysis: Saying they're going to limit Coles and doing it are two totally different things, although we keep faith in CB Rashean Mathis being a great NFL player, and he'll be the guy covering Coles. Consider this information when starting Coles in Week 5; he's a low-end option for the week, and that's before determining the extent of his arm and calf injuries. |
Coles' arm OK after game

Updated 10/3/2006 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles had six receptions for 81 yards against Indianapolis but apparently injured his right arm during the game. X-rays were taken afterward, but Coles appeared to be fine after the game. | Analysis: Monitor Coles' status throughout the week before finalizing your Fantasy lineup. His matchup at Jacksonville doesn't appear to be a favorable one since the Jaguars' defense is known for being strong. If he makes the game, consider him a low-end No. 2 choice. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles caught six balls for 81 yards vs. Indianapolis in Week 4. Coles seemed to be hurt as the game ended; he did not practice all week for the game with a calf injury and he may have aggravated it. | Analysis: Coles and the Jets play at Jacksonville in Week 5. Monitor his status throughout the week before using him in that tough matchup. |
Coles doesn't practice Friday

Updated 9/29/2006 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf) did not practice on Friday, completing a week of not practicing. He was listed as questionable last week as well but did play against the Bills (and hauled in 10 catches). | Analysis: Coles should be considered a gametime decision, although it seems like he will give it a whirl in Week 4 vs. Indianapolis, which happens to be a decent matchup. Consider him a top-end No. 3 Fantasy WR or a low-end No. 2 WR option for Fantasy play in Week 4. |

| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf) is listed as questionable for Week 4 vs. Indianapolis. He did not practice with the team on Wednesday. | Analysis: Coles was in a similar situation last week, but managed to play on Sunday and not have too bad of a game against the Bills. Consider Coles a nice No. 2 option in larger formats, but a great No. 3 option in any league for Week 4 vs. Indianapolis, if healthy. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf) was in the starting lineup in Week 3 at Buffalo after being listed on the injury report. He finished with 10 catches for 78 yards. | Analysis: The Jets weren't able to get much going terms of a passing game, but everything that went up in the air was seemingly directed at Coles. No other receiver caught more than three passes in the game. Consider Coles a nice No. 2 option in larger formats, but a great No. 3 option in any league for Week 4 vs. Indianapolis. |

| News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles (calf) was not among the inactive players for Week 3 at Buffalo. | Analysis: Coles, who was listed as questionable, should be considered a safe start for Week 3. Unless you have healthier alternatives you trust, go with the top receiver for the Jets. |
Coles still questionable for Sunday
|
Updated 9/22/2006 |
| Laveranues Coles, WR CIN | |
| News: Laveranues Coles was limited again in practice Friday because of an unspecified calf injury, and remained questionable for the New York Jets' game at Buffalo on Sunday. The veteran wide receiver has had his left calf wrapped since Monday, and didn't fully participate in 11-on-11 drills for the third straight day. It's unclear when the injury occurred during the Jets' 24-17 loss to New England last Sunday. When asked Friday if Coles would play against the Bills, coach Eric Mangini was noncommittal. "I think Laveranues is a role model of toughness," he said. "Not a lot bothers him, whether it's getting a big hit or getting banged up or any of that stuff. He just pops up and goes. He's outstanding that way." | Analysis: Playing Coles is going to go down to the wire. With the Jets passing for more than 300 yards in their first two games, Coles has emerged as a possible No. 2 WR in Fantasy Football. Keep your eye on the situation and be ready before kickoff to make a decision on whether or not to play Coles. |
