Coles released by Jets

News: The Jets released WR Laveranues Coles from the active roster on Wednesday. They signed the Jets veteran Sunday for Monday night's game against the Patriots.
Analysis: Coles has compiled 674 receptions for 8,609 yards and 49 touchdowns over his career, and it looks like his stats will stay right there. Fantasy owners shouldn't have touched him in the first place.

Coles' stint with Jets over

News: Jets head coach Rex Ryan says the team will have to cut Laveranues Coles to make roster room for a healthy safety after James Ihedigbo suffered knee and ankle injuries in Week 13. Coles, inactive Monday night, was signed Sunday to his fourth stint with the team.
Analysis: Coles compiled 674 receptions for 8,609 yards and 49 touchdowns over his career, and it looks like his stats will stay right there. Fantasy owners shouldn't have touched him in the first place.

Coles ruled inactive vs. New England

News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles has been ruled inactive for Week 13 against the Patriots. Coles, who signed with the Jets on Sunday, spent seven of his 10 NFL seasons with the Jets where he produced 459 receptions for 5,941 yards and 37 touchdowns.
Analysis: For his career, Coles has compiled 674 receptions for 8,609 yards and 49 touchdowns. Coles will likely be the No. 4 WR for the Jets behind Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery and will move ahead of Patrick Turner. Coles has minimal Fantasy value and is not worth using in the majority of leagues.

Jets sign WR Coles

News: The Jets have signed free agent WR Laveranues Coles on Sunday. Coles has spent seven of his 10 NFL seasons with the Jets where he produced 459 receptions for 5,941 yards and 37 touchdowns. He ranks fourth in team history in receptions, fifth in receiving yards and is tied for fifth in touchdown receptions. In 2009, he played with Cincinnati and ranked second on the team with 43 receptions for 514 yards and five touchdowns. Originally a Jets third-round pick in 2000 (78th overall), Coles signed with Washington in 2003 as a restricted free agent but was re-acquired by the Jets in 2005 in a trade for Santana Moss. He rejoined the club for a third time when he signed as a free agent on July 30 but was released on August 29.

Coles to be a Jet again?

News: Former Jets WR Laveranues Coles will re-sign with the team Sunday morning, a source said. His stay with the team, however, is likely to be temporary. The Jets take on the Patriots in Week 13.
Analysis: Coles was released towards the end of the preseason by the Jets after spending 2009 with the Bengals. He caught 43 passes for 514 yards and five touchdowns in his only season in Cincinnati. Still, he should be ignored in Fantasy play for the time being.

Coles to re-join Jets?

News: Jets coach Rex Ryan hinted in his press conference Tuesday that the team might re-sign WR Laveranues Coles soon.
Analysis: Coles was released a couple of weeks ago, but with the way the Jets offense struggled in Week 1, his veteran leadership could be a nice addition while Santonio Holmes is out suspended. Coles might see a few snaps a game if he is re-signed, but he can continue to be ignored in Fantasy play for now.

Jets release WR Coles

News: The New York Jets released veteran wide receiver Laveranues Coles on Sunday. Coles has spent 10 seasons with the Jets and has caught 459 passes for 5,941 yards and 37 touchdowns over that time. New York could resign Coles after Week 1 but another option for him is retirement.
Analysis: Coles, for his career, has compiled 674 career receptions for 8,609 yards and 49 touchdowns. Still, he was unimpressive in the preseason and the Jets are moving on without him. He could get picked up by another team or get resigned by the Jets but we don't think he's going to be worth using in Fantasy too often this season. Definitely leave him alone on Draft Day.

Coles unimpressive in preseason

News: Jets WR Laveranues Coles caught one pass for seven yards in Friday's preseason game against the Redskins. He has caught four passes for 19 yards through the team's first three preseason games.
Analysis: For his career, Coles has compiled 674 career receptions for 8,609 yards and 49 touchdowns. At this stage in his career, however, he is expected to play a secondary role on a team that is expected to have a mediocre passing game and will have a run-first attitude. We don't expect Coles to be much of a factor this season, and he has minimal Fantasy value. Ignore Coles in all leagues on Draft Day.

Jets sign Coles

News: The Jets have signed free agent WR Laveranues Coles. The announcement was made by GM Mike Tannenbaum on Friday. For his career, Coles has compiled 674 career receptions for 8,609 yards and 49 touchdowns.
Analysis: Coles will compete for playing time in a crowded WR corps, which includes Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery and Santonio Holmes. We don't expect Coles to be much of a factor this season, and he has minimal Fantasy value. Ignore Coles in all leagues on Draft Day.

Coles to resurface with the Jets?

News: WR Laveranues Coles is working out with the Jets Friday and is expected to sign. Coles was drafted by the Jets in 2000, played for the Redskins from 2003-2004 before returning to the Jets from 2005-2008. He played for the Bengals in 2009 and was miserable, catching 43 passes for 513 yards with five touchdowns.
Analysis: Coles never had more than 72 yards in a game last year and clearly looked as if he lost a step. He'd likely be a four-game replacement for Santonio Holmes in the offense and then be relegated to limited duty. We don't think he'll be any better than a potential waiver-wire candidate during the season. Keep him off of rosters for now.

Bengals cut WR Coles

News: The Bengals released WR Laveranues Coles prior to the start of free agency. He was a disappointment in 2009, finishing with just 513 yards on 43 catches (12.0 avg.) in 16 games with five touchdowns. Coles never had more than 72 yards in a game during the year and clearly looked as if he lost a step.
Analysis: We suspect that Coles will get a nibble elsewhere around the league, but don't expect him to see a rebound in stats. He's only worth a late-round flier in the deepest of seasonal drafts this offseason.

Coles grabs TD in playoff defeat

News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles caught six passes for 48 yards and a touchdown in Cincinnati's Wild Card playoff loss to the Jets on Saturday.
Analysis: Coles finished the 2009 season with three touchdown in his last four games, but his top yardage total of the campaign was only 72 yards. The veteran will remain just a low-end Fantasy option looking ahead to the 2010 season.

Coles makes three grabs in finale

News: Cincinnati WR Laveranues Coles was responsible for three of the four receptions by the Bengals on Sunday in a Week 17 loss at the Jets. Coles gained 19 yards on the three receptions, with a long of 16 yards.
Analysis: The Bengals' offense was completely inept on Sunday and everyone struggled because of it. Coles had a disappointing season with the Bengals, making 43 receptions and gaining 514 yards with five touchdowns. The veteran will remain just a low-end Fantasy option looking ahead to the 2010 season.

Will Bengals rest stars at Jets?

News: The Bengals are locked into the No. 3 or 4 seed in the AFC playoffs, guaranteeing them a home game for winning the AFC North. If the Patriots win their game early on Sunday at the Texans, then the Bengals will be locked into the No. 4 seed regardless of their result against the Jets on Sunday night. The last time head coach Marvin Lewis led the Bengals to the postseason was in the 2005 season. With nothing on the line in Week 17, Carson Palmer played two offensive series and the rest of the first-team offense played anywhere from one half to three quarters with limited totals. Lewis is mum as to how he'll approach this game. "We're going to go win the football game," he said. "You always want to be as high a seed as you can in the playoffs. Why would you want to be the fourth when you have the opportunity to be third?"
Analysis: If you own any of the Bengals' studs -- Palmer, Cedric Benson, Chad Ochocinco and even Laveranues Coles -- you're in a tough spot if you need them in Week 17. You cannot expect them to play a full game against the Jets, especially if they can't improve to a No. 3 seed (the prospect of going from a No. 4 seed to a No. 3 seed isn't that enthralling anyway). Consider other options before going with any of these guys in Week 17 since they could seriously disappoint. Check out what else we have to say about players on playoff-bound teams who might rest in Week 17.

Coles scores in second straight

News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles caught three passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in a Week 16 win over the Chiefs. He now has a TD in two straight games.
Analysis: Coles hasn't gone over 75 yards in a single game this season, but at least he's been coming through with scores here late. The Bengals play at the Jets in Week 17, which is a difficult matchup. Continue to only use him in the deepest of leagues as a low-end flex option.

Coles finds the end zone

News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles caught four passes for 48 yards in Week 15 at San Diego, including a 2-yard touchdown catch. He was targeted four times in the game.
Analysis: Coles had actually been held without a catch in his previous game and he remains far too erratic to rely on in a Fantasy championship scenario. Keep reserved where possible for Week 16 against Kansas City.

Coles held statless in Week 14

News: Bengals FB Jeremi Johnson, WR Quan Cosby, WR Maurice Purify and WR Laveranues Coles all played during the Week 14 loss at Minnesota but did not make a stat.
Analysis: Coles is an obvious surprise because of his regular play in the offense, but the rest of these Bengals can't be counted on in Fantasy play. Keep them all off of active lineups in Week 15 at San Diego.

Coles gets just two grabs Week 13

News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles caught two passes on Sunday in a Week 13 win over the Lions. Coles gained a total of 25 yards on the two receptions.
Analysis: Coles has not been a solid contributor since coming over from the Jets in the offseason and this is the third week in a row that he has caught only two passes. He has just three touchdowns on the year and doesn’t seem to be getting any better. He is just a low-end Fantasy option for Week 14 at Minnesota.

Coles active for Week 13 vs. Detroit

News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles has been listed as active for the team's Week 13 game against the Lions.
Analysis: It seems the Jets were smart to let Coles walk in the offseason since his production has been quite poor for the Bengals. He definitely has lost a step and is no longer a viable Fantasy start. The Lions do have a poor pass defense, but Coles is merely a sleeper Fantasy start for Week 13.

News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles (chest) is listed as probable for Week 13 vs. Denver. He took limited practice reps all week. Coles has battled chest and head injuries the last few weeks, but has yet to miss a game.

News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles (chest) went through a limited practice Wednesday and Thursday as the team prepares for Week 13 vs. Detroit. Coles has battled chest and head injuries the last few weeks, but has yet to miss a game.

Coles limited in practice on Wednesday

News: Cincinnati WR Laveranues Coles practiced in a limited fashion on Wednesday as the team prepares for its Week 13 game against the Lions. He had two catches for 24 yards Week 12 against Cleveland.
Analysis: Coles has not had a 100-yard receiving game this season and has had five catches just three times. In Week 13, the Bengals have a very favorable matchup against the Lions, which could make him a sleeper in larger formats as long as he is healthy enough to play.

Bengals can't get ball to Coles

News: Cincinnati WR Laveranues Coles was thrown to a team-high nine times in Week 12 against Cleveland, but he caught just two passes for 24 yards.
Analysis: The Bengals sure tried to get Coles the ball, but Fantasy owners should not be expecting much from him anyway. He has not had a 100-yard receiving game this season and has had five catches just three times this season. In Week 13, the Bengals have a very favorable matchup against the Lions, which could make him a sleeper in larger formats.

News: Bengals WR Laveranues Coles (chest) was activated for Week 12 against Cleveland. He had been listed as questionable on the injury report.
Analysis: Anyone waiting for official word that he would be active can go ahead and start him. In Week 4, Coles had two catches for 24 yards against the Browns. View him as a No. 3 WR.

Report: Coles to play vs. Browns

News: According to NFL.com, Bengals WR Laveranues Coles (chest) is expected to play Sunday against the Browns. Coles, who hasn't missed a game this season, is listed as questionable.
Analysis: It appears safe to keep Coles active in Week 12. He should be considered a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR.
