by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/14/2014) The Titans defense had trouble slowing down Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray during a 26-10 loss Week 2. Murray rushed for 167 yards and one touchdown, as Dallas racked up 368 total yards in the win.

The Cowboys managed just two offensive touchdowns, but kicker Dan Bailey totaled four field goals -- all over 40 yards.

The Titans did finish with four sacks and one fumble recovery. Tennessee is back in action Week 3 against the Bengals.

Titans defense steps up in big way Week 1

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/7/2014) The Titans defense stepped up in a big way during a surprising 26-10 win Week 1 at Kansas City.

Tennessee held Kansas City to 245 yards and just one offensive touchdown -- a 5-yard catch by Anthony Fasano in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs finished with just 67 rushing yards, including just 19 from star running back Jamaal Charles.

Tennessee forced Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith to throw three interceptions. The Titans also came away with four sacks.

The Titans will look to improve to 2-0 in a Week 2 showdown vs. Dallas.

Zach Brown injures shoulder Week 1

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/7/2014) Titans linebacker Zach Brown suffered a shoulder injury on the opening possession of Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

He was listed as questionable to return before being downgraded to out at the start of the second half. Brown was spotted wearing a sling on his left arm.

Titans DST looking like a bad start Week 1

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/4/2014) The Titans defense does not have an easy task Week 1, as Tennessee will open the 2014 season against Kansas City, who went 11-5 in 2013.

The Chiefs ranked just 21th in total offense last season, averaging 337.2 yards per game, but they ranked tied for 6th in scoring offense, averaging 26.9 points per game.

Quarterback Alex Smith and running back Jamaal Charles are back on offense. Dwayne Bowe is also back, however, he will sit out Week 1 due to a suspension. Tight end Travis Kelce was a standout player in the preseason for Kansas City and has sleeper potential, so he is a player the Titans might have to watch out for Week 1.

DSTs averaged just 4.9 Fantasy points per week against the Chiefs in 2013, which includes the playoffs. It was the lowest average in the league. Even with Bowe sitting out, the Titans DST is at best a No. 2 Fantasy option Week 1.

Colin McCarthy goes under the knife

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/16/2014) Titans linebacker Colin McCarthy underwent shoulder surgery on Saturday, according to his social media account. The procedure will likely land him on the injured reserve list. McCarthy had 55 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble in 16 games in 2013.

Zach Brown benched for opening series of exhibition game

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/10/2014) Titans linebacker Zach Brown was benched in favor of Zaviar Gooden for the opening series due to an unspecified rule violation, ESPN reports. Brown was the starting inside linebacker for the Titans through all of training camp.

"I would describe it as pissing me off," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. Brown said "If he ain't elaborating, I ain't either"

Antonio Johnson returns to Tennessee

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/19/2014) The Titans are bringing back defensive lineman Antonio Johnson , according to The Tennessean Tuesday. Johnson's deal is expected to be for two years, with financial terms not yet a available.

Johnson had the most productive season of his career in 2013, his first with the Titans. He appeared in 16 games for just the second time in six seasons, finishing with 22 tackles and three sacks.

Al Woods heads to Tennessee on two-year deal

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/12/2014) The Titans signed defensive lineman Al Woods to a two-year deal Wednesday, ending his two-year run with the Steelers. Woods' contract will pay him $5 million over two years, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Woods is coming off the most productive season of his career, as he played in all 16 games for the first time in four seasons. He picked up 16 tackles and two sacks, the latter of which represents a career-high for the 26-year-old.

Titans trying to strike long-term deal with Alterraun Verner

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/20/2014) The Titans are meeting with cornerback Alterraun Verner's agent at the combine in hopes of signing him to a long-term contract, reports the Tennessean. There's still work to do, but at this point the team is not expected to slap the franchise tag on Verner.

The 25-year-old free agent made the Pro Bowl after intercepting five passes and defending 23 more.

Re-signing Alterraun Verner is key for Titans

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/6/2014) Re-signing free agent cornerback Alterraun Verner should be the Titans' top priority, reports USA Today. Verner, 25, enjoyed a breakout season with five interceptions and 23 passes defensed. He made the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro second team.

Verner says he'd like to return to Tennessee but isn't afraid to test the market.

Coach hoping for May return for Jake Locker

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/31/2014) New Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt believes quarterback Jake Locker will return from a Lisfranc surgery in Week 10 in time to participate in organized team activities in May. But he does not want to rush him back.

"We're going to have to rein him in a little bit, not from the standpoint of trying to get better, but he probably wants to go right now - just in my sense to talking with him," Whisenhunt told The Tennesseean. "But Jake has to be healthy. We want him to be 100 percent. ... There will be plenty of time to get him on the field."

Locker played in just seven games in 2013 and struggled after a strong start. He completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,256 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.

Michael Griffin contemplating future with Titans.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/18/2014) Titans free safety Michael Griffin wonders if he will be back in 2014 despite coming off a strong season in which he recorded 103 tackles, his highest total since 2010. His worried are based not on performance, but on economics.

"I realize I count $8 million toward the salary cap, so I have to worry about myself," he told The Tennesseean. "At the end of the day, I am questioning my fate. You have to ask yourself, do they think you are worth that?"

Griffin, who managed just one interception in 2013, is due salaries exceeding $6 million in each of the next three years.

Two Titans signed to reserve/futures contracts

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/3/2014) The Titans have signed rookie fullback/tight end Jason Schepler and defensive end Marcus Dixon to reserve/futures contracts. Only the latter has NFL experience. He played in 22 games for the Jets from 2010 to 2012.

Titans take advantage of lowly Texans

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/29/2013)  The Titans DST unit had little trouble dominating one of the league's worst teams in Week 17, as they held the Texans to just two scores in a 16-10 win.

Tennessee's defense allowed just 288 yards of total offense, and came up with a number of big plays as a result of Houston's sloppiness. The Titans forced four turnovers in the game, two each on fumbles and interceptions, though they added just one sack in the win.

The Titans DST unit had its moments this season, but still allowed 10 of 16 opponents to score more than 20 points. They will likely be considered a low-end Fantasy option for next season.

Titans in great shape as they prepare for Texans

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/27/2013) The Titans are quite healthy heading into their season finale against visiting Houston. Only three players appear on their Friday injury report, including defensive tackle Jurrell Casey (knee) and tackle David Stewart (shoulder), who are both questionable. Since neither practiced all week, it has been speculated that they are unlikely to play.

More likely to play is linebacker Zach Brown (illness), who is probable.

Jurrell Casey projected to play Week 17 game

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/26/2013) Mike Munchak expects Titans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey (shoulder) to play Sunday against the Texans despite missing practice on Thursday, The Tennesseean has reported. Casey has played every game this year and started all but one.

Titans DST steps up in second half

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/23/2013) The Titans didn't get off to a great start defensively Week 16 at Jacksonville, allowing 13 points on 204 yards in the first half alone. But they stepped up in the second half, limiting the Jaguars to 16 points on 289 yards overall.

They had two sacks and one interception. The interception, a pick by reserve defensive back George Wilson that preserved a four-point lead late in the fourth quarter, was the team's first in three games.

The Titans DST has another favorable matchup Week 17 against the Texans, so while it's not the most attractive unit in Fantasy, it might be worth a look if you get in a pinch in a deeper league.

George Wilson gets first pick

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/23/2013) Titans defensive back George Wilson recorded his first interception of the season and first since 2011 Week 16 at Jacksonville, picking off quarterback Chad Henne to preserve a four-point lead late in the fourth quarter.

Wilson, who only plays in certain formations, also had a solo tackle.

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
